I just reformatted my system and installed Windows 8. Client works now for me. It was a bit of a drastic measure, but my issue was that I simply couldn't even SEE the client. Upon launching it would just say "ESEA Client has stopped working."
I only did the re-install method because I had recently ordered a new hard drive and I wanted to test it out so I saw the opportunity to finally do a clean install. Hopefully ESEA will come up with a solution soon.
Some suggestions the ESEA rep told me:
1) Read the FAQ thread (LOL)
2) Delete the entire game folder located within your steam folder by going to your steam folder directly which should be located at c:/program files/steam/steamapps/common and then deleting the entire game folder ( DO NOT JUST DELETE THE LOCAL CONTENT ). Only save your maps folder to your desktop or any other location and do not install any gui/custom config until it works correctly. After that is done right click on your game in your steam games library and delete the local content ( if it is still present )

**ONLY DO IF DESPERATE APPARENTLY?!**
3) Fully uninstall your anti virus software or any other security program you have on your computer ( temporarily of course ) so that we can eliminate that from causing the issue. Sometimes when you add an exceptionfor the ESEA client or just disable your anti virus software it can still cause an issue just from being on your computer and normally that is what will stop the client from being able to work properly.
As soon as you uninstall your security programs then download and install a fresh copy of the ESEA client, be sure to delete the entire ESEA folder from your program files folder after you uninstall the ESEA client before you install the new ESEA client.
Another suggestion was to try booting in Safe Mode with Networking and seeing if the client will run in that mode.

i'll be sure to bookmark this thread for potential future uses; thanks everybody for posting these troubleshooting processes.
aside from that, i think it's a bit silly some of our players are having to do things like reformat to participate in a pay-to-play league, using a client they monetarily subscribe to. hopefully we get an official word from a client dev on this soon.

My client seems to be working now that I uninstalled mumble and re installed with version 1.2.3.

Anything client related should be done through a ticket. Include as much information as you can, and the client specialists will help you (I'll see what I can do if I receive ticket numbers!).

It seems like these issues are related to mumble somehow. I wish I actually understood computers but I don't. The only time I got in the server (last minute of the game) was when I closed mumble.
I havent read through anything so i dont know if this has already been mentioned. Our scout was having issues with this during our viaduct match. He figured out that it was mumble and simply installed an older version of mumble.
Can people with these issues add into their ESEA support tickets that closing or downgrading mumble resolves their issue? They should be able solve the issue when the know the app that's conflicting.
I can confirm that mumble is in fact the issue(for me).
Upon joining a server with mumble open my client crashed within ~10 seconds.
Without mumble open(and in client mumble) I have yet to crash.
Without mumble open my game has yet to crash, using esea client mumble, like shrugger suggested, seems to be a solid fix for the time being.

we don't really use the ESEA system as it was built to be used. Ideally (for them) we'd pug and scrim on their servers as well and a large number of these problems would be solved during those times. The TF2 community has decided (rightfully so) that private scrim servers and IRC pugs are better for TF2 than the ESEA client so we really only use the client for matches.
Of course, it seems like Fox's particular problem wouldn't have been fixed since he was able to get into a pug server just fine, but a lot of these mumble problems would have been caught by now.
