I'm interested to hear what you think is wrong with NATF2.

Ok I think i figured out why, and im going to make some assumptions here so feel free to call me out on the things I'm completely wrong about.

It would seem you want to move here because of the "spadez" thread. I am really sorry to let you know, but that isn't the problem with NATF2. That is actually the kind of thread people really enjoy. If you had been around for gotfrag (you already posted you hadn't) you wouldn't even be phased by that thread. There are probably 10 other threads that have way more shit talk in it and are 10+ pages long. So things like that aren't the reason natf2 sucks.

But again, I'm making an assumption, so I'd like to hear what you have to say and then I'll give my reason as why this glorious site is better.

The quality of the posts are quite terrible. It was the spadez topic that made me want to switch for sure.

EDIT: Just saw your post above. I'm not a person who likes so called "Open Drama". While it can be entertaining in certain, the majority of the time it's just a total waste of time. I prefer quality over quantity of content.

I think you can drop the "Open" part of that. Most of us aren't interested in any drama.

If this is to the successor of gotfrag, oh do I have some news for you.

This could be much more though. TF2 is more than double dota in actual users (not peak) riding off the MvM update. http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

TF2 is going bigger. If this site continues to improve and we get more comp players we might actually have to get some TL style moderation.

Another thing I was talking to defiance about on Steam was the lack of care/features on NATF2. It's been practically the same since day one. TFTV has gone from a simple stream viewer to an entire community, with more features on the way.

Stuff like that was also the reason for my switch from NATF2 to here.

Fog, it doesn't matter where you migrate to. Once all the people end up in the same place, it's just going to be the same stuff. The only difference between here and NATF2 is I don't think Enigma will allow this place to turn into complete shit.

look guys let's get real here. tf2 is never going to be respected as a real competitive video game, despite the best efforts of everyone in the community. everyone has this idealistic notion that we can somehow raise this game into some reputable form of an e-sport, and one day we'll make it big - maybe not as big as sc2 or dota, but big enough. tf2 might grow, but in addition to its slow growth is also its slow death. i think you all think that tf2 will grow into something that it'll never be. you guys should just enjoy the game for what it is, and have your fun while you can, because this game's never going to go anywhere significant. that's why the vicious nature of our community is so intrinsic: everyone knows everyone else, which leads to shit like this happening because it's funny to publicly shame someone that everyone understands is retarded. it wouldn't be funny or notable in a community big enough that people actually didn't know everyone, but that's not the case with tf2.

Theres so many names on NATF2 that I don't recognize, which is a really odd feeling. I used to pretty much recognize every name on gotfrag and the beginning of NATF2

But I guess thats growth right?

You guys all have a point in terms of that kind of posting being the norm.

However, I refuse to take part in that, and would rather stay away from the forums then be a part of that.

Maybe I'll get over it in a day or so, but it's good to rant about it IMO.

I understand that you're an admin on NATF2 and you're supposed to help keep the forums from turning into complete shit (too late, not your fault though), but you're letting the drama affect you more than it should. This kind of stuff isn't going to just stop happening because you want nothing to do with it. You're better off either just not clicking on the thread, or actually locking it with no regards to how people feel on you doing so.

kirbyIf you're looking for a video game community to be a part of that doesn't constantly call out people for being dumb, or doesn't have people being dumb in general, or anything of relevance to those two, then you're playing the wrong game. This is the TF2 community like it or not, either make it your home or don't. No other options to be honest.

Depending on how a person comes off, people generally aren't mean. If a person comes off as a know it all or is condescending, or maybe just blatantly posting in an idiotic manner people will attack them.

This is almost the exact message I was trying to get across to the DoD community circa 04/05 when most of the players were hopeful to get DoD on the level of CS @ the CPL. You guys are facing an uphill battle in becoming a legit e-sport, but don't take for granted what you've already accomplished. The DoD community has found a way to survive going on 11 years with an ugly broken game by embracing just that fact.

I'm just a casual TF2 player at this point (TFC was my first serious e-sport, circa 2000), but I must say that I'm incredibly impressed with the TF2 community. You guys have your shit together as far as being passionate about your competitive scene, even though your community is still quite small in the grand scheme of things, and are currently spread out across multiple community sites. Those thing will all sort themselves out in time. It all makes me feel like actually taking the time to learn how to play comp TF2, and I imagine some of the other old school players from other games feel the same way when they see what you guys have going on here. Only good things can come from that.

Excellent job on the website btw, hope MLG doesn't pull a cease-and-desist order on you for copying gotfrag (lulz).

I feel like everyone should migrate here. Although I appreciate pingu and the other NATF2 admins for their hard work, the site from the get-go seemed just like a temporary solution to the closing of gotfrag. This site just has that Tf2 community feel to it, not to mention enigma is very actively improving and adding features to the site. Tf.tv already has some great articles, streaming section, links to events/news, and a lot more on the way. And as long as our community actively supports, maintains, and improves the site, we're going to have a great thing here.
