Nitpick over, good job.

KanecoPrem this season is dismal, it's really really weak, probably the weakest I remember it. And to be honest your team isn't helping either, having a HL team basically in prem, out of the blue, without having to prove themselves, with a pyro main as a prem medic only adds insult to injury. Nothing against him obviously, but this detracts a lot from the "prestige" or "status" prem used to have. A few seasons ago, one team like yours would struggle in div1 or even div2.
I partly agree with this as I mentioned in the article, though I can tell you as I played in Division 1 and 2 a lot the past couple of years, my team is definitely better than Division 2, no matter how many seasons ago it was, perhaps 1-2 years ago we'd be around low/mid Division 1, can't argue with that but I am a much better player than I was 2 years ago, people improve over time. I agree about the prestige, to be placed automatically in Prem without a playoff after I spend best part of 3 seasons fighting to get into Prem and then staying in it takes away from it a little. Also Steve is actually amazing at Medic, when you got the right attitude it isn't hard to improve at a class like Medic.
KanecoBut not everything is bad, I have talked with a lot of people in the recent weeks, and I have come to the conclusion that we can take this as a blessing in disguise. Sometimes you need to take 1 step back to take 2 steps forward. If the community plays their cards right, we will have a wave of fresh upcoming talent showcasing in prem/div1, particularly this season, but much of it will stick for more seasons, and I think thats a great thing. As slin mentioned, I think this is part of a natural cycle, players leave, quit, have a break, whatever it is, life goes on, and so does prem, someone will have to replace them, while that will cause a bit of a "dark age" for eu tf2, I think in the long run it will be beneficial for us.
Well like every "dark point" in the scene, so to speak we have seen recovery and more and more amazing TF2, after i46 ofc all these amazing sides reformed/formed and come i49 EU scene was flourishing. For Season 9, few remember but Tt/FB played TCM and won one of the most amazing finals I ever watched, only games that beat it for me were TCM vs Infused Lower Bracket final at i43 and Mixup vs LG/eMg at S12 LAN. A great game can do wonders for the scene, get everyone hyped and even a crushing defeat can make people motivate themselves (i46 was best thing to happen to EU TF2).
KanecoEu tf2 is not stagnated, etf2l itself is stagnated, take a look at zoob logs.tf thread and check the unique players statistics and weekly/monthly players since i49, and you will see it's steadily increasing, tf2 is a f2p game, so there is always going to be an influx of new players, whether or not they are converted to the competitive format thats another story. But you still have the competitive community steadily increasing according to zoob's stats.
Yeah, it is an issue that is starting to be addressed - get these new people into competitive leagues. I've met a few people lately who are brand spanking new and been talking about their motivations to play, I find there is a lot that could be done better by ETF2L to get them into competitive leagues, but they're already starting to address it with the Highlander Open and I will give them a break as I used to try and do this sort of promotion, but now I am too lazy to admin and I know how stressful/time consuming admin work is.
KanecoWhat we can't afford is to lose the hype, I have been so detached this past 2 seasons, I don't even watch the streams anymore when I used to love them. This is because there is really no interest. There's no hype, no epic rivalries broder vs epsilon vs crackclan, I don't feel like supporting any team in prem. And thats a bad sign. You need people to get interested and attached to it, start supporting teams. And how will that happen? First, have stable teams (that dont fold after 1 season), teams with good players, interviews so you can get to know the teams and players, more preview articles, etc etc... Eventually people will grow to love some prem team and feel attached to it. And it will increase stream viewers as well. VanillaTV dying was also not very good for us, but I am glad it is coming back.
I agree, hype is huge, there are few people who try to create it. I mean getting all these comments shows there is still interest/hype of some sort, but we want to see hype from top Prem teams. Commenting in general on articles btw is the best way to motivate people to play more. When you write a great preview for a match/season and get less than 10 comments, you feel you haven't done much but when you got 50+ commenter's it's a really good feeling. So comment please! It helps. (shoutout to Enigma and Mana btw) :D
And regarding Hype, having my HL people in Prem could be good for getting people from 9v9 to play 6v6. If you're an average HL guy, like some 9v9 and not a fan of 6v6, you might enjoy seeing some of the best HL people battle it out in 6v6 Prem, like Street Hoops in invite are doing, lot of people are rooting for them in HL community. I don't pretend to be the most likable guy in this community, but it could be a good thing for 6v6.
KanecoAlso I wouldn't count on an international iseries this year, nothing was started yet and the americans seem too focused on their own community lan to even bother with it, which is a shame but oh well.
Don't hammer the nails in the coffin until pronounced dead officially. :P
KanecoBy the way Hildreth you got kiler's name wrong, like horribly wrong, I don't know where you got that 4 from but its kileR4fuNN. Also isn't it stefan instead of stefen? Other than that great article.

I think sorex will do fine. I know I have only played against him in highlander, but he is literally the best scout I have ever played against by far, most top prem 6s scouts don't even compare to him in highlander. Those meatshots, man. But I guess the gamesense is a big part of it as well.

AdmirableThis is troubling for me, even more so that other people are sharing this sentiment, because the last two seasons have featured the most extensive, in-depth coverage of any seasons I can remember between Gentleman Jon's ridiculously impressive word count exploring the depths of TF2 stats and TFTV covering every Premiership game going... with the majority of those casts featuring post game interviews. We have also seen more top European players streaming than ever. An incredible ZOWIE invitational just before Season 17. Extensive Previews. Gossip updates. Awards shows. DavidTheWin writing a series of weekly reports.
I am truly sorry for responding to 2 pages ago, but I again feel like my unworthy pubmind has something to add here.
I didn't make my point in that other post as clear as it could be, so I'm going to rephrase it:
My point was definately not that last season didn't have enough of this magic "Hype", my point was that last season was perfect in its hype, thus confirming Kaneco's statement that "Hype" was needed. And what I specifically want to add with this second post is: Thank you Admirable for your amazing coverage and hypebuilding. Your introduction to all the teams and then later on the mid-season gossip, those were my only way of understanding comp TF2, picking the heros from the losers. Your casts were amazing to watch aswell. And you weren't alone, I'd have to thank CommanderX, Warhuryeah, Ducky, Gentleman Jon and a whole bunch of others I'm forgetting aswell.
It's starting to worry me that I might not actually be contributing anything at this point, so I'll close it off and hope I don't interrupt your joy about Cookye being back and Smzi saving tf2:
Last season your(Ads, CX, War, Ducky, Jon, Arie, etc., etc.) coverage got me interested in the scene, so keep it up and maybe next season you'll attract more useful people than me!

I'm simply saying that Prem might not be great this season but don't despair.
Invite has had its own weak seasons in the past where we had to move up 3 teams, but now in this season the competition is looking stronger than ever. ETF2L Prem can make the same comeback but the drive has to be there.

the itch for tf2 got too great today
my mistake was checking if smzi had been succesful in making an 8th team for prem and got suckered in

Cookye once asked to join Crack Clan at LAN and I turned him down.
True story :D
True story :D
The quality of prem fluctuates all the time, and it might be far from the best season, its also not that shit.
However, I still don't understand why some particular teams got seeded in div2 and div1, yet we have some quite weak teams at the bottom end of prem and even a vacant spot. (edit: gg smzi saving prem).. I guess this is a result of the newer, fresher, keener teams climbing the ranks in div2 and div1 not even realising how well they can compete, and not having considering raising the bar and requesting a higher division placement.
Also a little correction: Brego didn't trial for us (didn't get to it, time constraints), but HYS is trialing though.

cheeseyI don't think it really matters who plays what, you can put war on med as long as there is a 8th team this season

hey, im good at ultiduo medic because i only have to worry about one person, myself.
T0mIts all very good that people can point out the problems with tf2 but there is a massive lack of people actually doing something. No one can be fucked to do anything of real progress in eu tf2, like barely anyone can be bothered to take charge and form a team and build it up to the top level. in eu tf2 people ride on their reputation way to much and never work towards actually getting better.
It's because being a leader is hard, and not many people want to do it as a result. I've done it for four years now - it's not easy. I am just lucky that I have mostly been able to play with like minded and nice/fun people (minus the dicklords that I had to boot in the past) for the four years that I've been a leader.
You have to put a lot of time and commitment into being a leader, and it is actually quite straining on one's psyche. Managing drama, thinking of different strategies, main calling (presumably), just to name a few.

There is a psychological aspect of the "skill level dropping" as well. If you imagine yourself on top of prem, playing season after season. The same people that wanted mentoring or signed weapons from you have now played the game for some time. The same people that were perhaps 'mediocre' have now played the game for several seasons. They're active, watching their own demos and striving to become as good as their heroes.
But from the prem players side of things your teammates, your heroes and people you recognize are quitting or taking a break. Season after season they are slowly getting replaced by the newer players that looked up to you, or players you have never heard of. Inside your head there will be the effect of the game "dying" or an illusion that the skill level is turning to shit.
I'm not qualified to speak of how this years prem compares to other seasons, but honestly we've had seasons before where epsilon has completely stomped the tables and there wasn't much hype. What i think is needed is for the top 3 teams to get close and exciting games and for there to be rivalries and hype backing them up. I think the fact that this game is still going strong by the help of the community alone is an incredible feat that everyone can be proud of. Both for highlander and for 6s.
Cookye back in tf2 is a huge #hype for me though!
