hype and potential content aside, was anyone else as disappointed as I was with the plot from this short? there were little things that I liked from it, like the tumor bread concept, and just about anything that the soldier had to say, but aside from that it felt like they sorta squandered the potential that was available with such a diverse set of characters. instead of writing something unique, they went with the cliched, "guy has goal he wants to accomplish; other guy who main guy clashes with teaches guy to accomplish goal; teachings fail and main guy accomplishes goal by using characteristic he had all along" plot, which felt contrived, and just generally banal in comparison to what they've made in the past. I could hardly sit through it.

it's possible that making such a long "short" (heh) is still something new to valve or that it might not be their best interest to put that much effort into a story for this in the first place (it's a promo for a game after all), either way I can't help but feel disappointed; like this short doesn't do justice to the allure of the game's universe that the other shorts projected.
