Interested to see how these will turn out in slow mo smooths for videos I edit in the future, at first glance they look cool, but not sure they will look that cool in super slow-mo smooths and the likes.

CasualI'd have to argue in the other direction. While visibility can be seen as an advantage, the lack of particles on screen can also serve as a monstrous disadvantage. Being unable to see trails of any projectiles can make them far harder to anticipate. For example, your chances of being surprised by rockets from the flank or behind is significantly increased when you can no longer see the lengthy smoke trail. Without explosion particles, players are at another split second disadvantage of knowing whether someone was just firing near them or not. These particles significantly subdue the signs that most players visually rely on to be the most alert that they can be.

It seems like more than a fair tradeoff, let alone the fact that minimal particles are primarily used by people struggling to get their fps as high as their monitor's hz.

At the risk of sounding harsh, this idea is totally retarded. If a rocket is surprising you, you're not looking at it--you likely haven't seen the player who flanked you and the only cue you're going to need, regardless of particles, is sound. If you feel you're at a disadvantage because you don't see trails during fights, you're ignoring sound and other visual cues (e.g. the soldier you see flying through the air firing at you or the rocket that is moving across the screen on an otherwise static map). The idea that smaller explosion particles are a disadvantage is laughable--you've already seen the enemy and heard him fire. Now you can see through the rocket explosion particles, too--leaving your visibility unobstructed at all times. Zero percent disadvantage for you. I'm also reluctant to believe that changing the particles will result in any repeatable and noticeable FPS boost. It's possible, but I doubt it.

Sorry, I'm not calling you dumb, so please don't take offense. That argument is just nonsensical.

d4m0Oblivionagemy cfg disables particle effectsHow? I didn't know that was possible.

my bad i never really paid attention to my particles (only time i do is in a jump server when they're disabled), i thought they were reduced from my frames config but they aren't. i'm not getting these weird circles though and i'm playing on dx9.

Mm fair enough, pity
Are you dx91? The new particles only seems to be for dx95.

Like everyone is saying, it only works on dx95, so go to dx91 ;)

Not sure if dx92-94 is even a thing, you can try if that works tho, I never looked into it that much

I noticed it earlier, but with regards to stickies I only see it on airburst ones, not ones on the ground. Maybe by making the damage radius more obvious valve are laying the groundwork for a radius ramp-up sticky nerf that you can actually see?

Yes, it is only on player explosion and air detonations.

if this is true then I'm hoping they fix it for dx8

hahaha who am I kidding valve never makes things work in dx8

I actually switched back to dx8 ,because well they look pretty but they are pretty annoying too.

Don't get your hopes up. Doesn't work on ESEA servers.
