but this doesn't look like an arena shooter even a little bit
Reborn, reflex, rekt, UT4, now this.
Heres hoping for a new era of AFPS.

La_maisonCLAN ADMIN PRIVILEGES
One of the four Steam keys included in this package (the primary key) comes with CLAN ADMIN PRIVILEGES. This feature does not only get you access to the clan management tools, but also lets you host your own matches on our servers, define map cycles, administrate players, set mutators, set passwords for your matches etc. (will be available upon the full release).
Does that mean the absence of dedicated servers?
I think they will have dedicated servers but the admin privileges just let you get global admin to all the servers if im understanding it right

The name, graphics and HUD make it seem like more of a modern FPS.

I didn't know having a specific art style and heads up display make two games similar.

looks like unreal and halo had a baby, but a few points against it:
1) Vehicles
2) Maps did not look like arenas
3) Did not see weapons that seem to highlight pinpoint accuracy (could be just a vid flaw)
4) Visual clutter

Just something to consider, and although its not a popular opinion, a large amount of people consider halo to be an arena fps. This game looks a lot like halo + UT. Semantics aside it looks awesome. As long as the settings let you change things like picmip, fps rate, fov, crosshair then I could see my self getting behind this. If the vehicles handle well, and don't absolutely make infantry useless it should be ok. (ex, vehicles in battlefield were op, but vehicles in halo 2 were just good but not imbalanced)
Looking to cop a beta key anyone gonna actually play the beta?
If really hope they include an option that makes enemies freakin' fluorescent, because "I must shoot this grey speck among all this brown" makes arena shooters boring as hell.
To be completely fair, the trailer was somewhat poorly done I feel. Whenever an actual trailer is released with more detail, a lot of questions and/or concerns may be addressed.
It also seems like a few people are missing the part where vehicles are mode specific.

Here is some more info about the game -
Classic FPS arena action
FRAG LIKE IT'S 1999: TOXIKK plays as if today's military shooters never existed. The game combines the simple and intuitive mechanics of old-school FPS giants with a fresh setting, slick graphics and our vision to carefully evolve the genre with some new ideas elaborated with Arena-FPS enthusiasts.
Designed as a spiritual successor to the fast paced arena shooters of the late 90s and early 2ks, there is no leveling, no skill-trees, no perks, no cover systems, no classes, no configurable weapons and no iron sight aiming.
Instead you get fast and precise movement (with deeply configurable mouse controls), double jumps, dodge jumps, booster pick-ups, nine iconic WEAPONS to be carried around simultaneously, secondary fire modes for every weapon, vehicular game modes, jump pads, health-packs, lots of vertical gameplay, optional mutators (incl. instagib) and everything else that made these kind of games so addictive. And if you want to practice your skills offline, TOXIKK also features a configurable BOT MODE.
Players being equal
After each death, you respawn with a melee weapon and a basic pistol. All other weapons are to be picked up while you play. Character customization is of cosmetic nature only.
However, unlike the shooter giants from the past, TOXIKK features an XP and a bounty system. The XP system and its associated ranks are used for reputation purposes, for our match-making algorithms and to unlock new skins, but they do NOT change the stats or the abilities of your character. Your rank will show other players how experienced and skilled YOU are (rather than showing the experience level of your game character).
Quick note concerning the last paragraph - Isn't that just a type of progression system? lol
Not being F2P
We believe that "classic Arena-FPS" and "Free-to-Play" (F2P) don't go well together. A true arena FPS requires all player characters to have equal stats and the availability of all weapons to everyone. Always! The skill of a player should be the only deciding factor about victory or defeat. Allowing players to buy different (i.e. better) weapons or to permanently boost their stats does totally contradict the idea of classic arena FPS gaming in our opinion.
Maps
CLASSIC MAPS offer very fast-paced gameplay in small to medium-sized maps for up to 8 players, while MASSIVE MAPS feature more strategic gameplay in bigger environments for up to 16 players. Vehicles (gliders, attack-bombers, hoverbikes and other ground vehicles) are exclusively available in Massive Maps.
If you don't want to play with vehicles, it will be 4v4.
User generated content
All registered players can apply for a FREE SDK to build own maps, characters and skins etc. for TOXIKK. We will put up a web page as a central hub for user generated content on TOXIKK.com. Players may vote user-generated content to be made available through this hub. All content on this hub will be offered free of charge. The whole process will be handled through our forums.
Designed for PC
We believe that shooters are meant to be played with mouse and keyboard. That's why TOXIKK is exclusively designed for PC. At this point, we do not intend to port the game to any other platform.

do i have an outdated definition of arena shooter because it seriously looks absolutely nothing like one except it has guns
"The secondary fire mode offers an auto-tracking system that can acquire every moving or heat-emitting object within seconds, turning the Cerberus' rockets into guided missiles"

Speaking of games that are so ~realistic~ that you actually cant see shit...
La_maison I had NS2 sitting in my library for ages now, how steep is the learning curve for the commander thing?
Not that steep. The "macro" side of things is pretty simple and if you follow the standard build in pubs, no one will fault you. learning how to medpack or boneshield (in other words, aiding teammates in combat) can take some skill, but no one in pubs is really good at it anyway. actually acting as the leader for your team can be harder and takes some game knowledge.
If you really want to play, id recommend not starting out as a commander. Its more fun if you just stay on the ground until you learn what all the buildings do, rather than just going through the same build over and over until you learn how to branch out. Plus if you fuck up no one will yell at you. The game is not as dead as you think. I have no problem finding servers on my skill level, as well as way above it.

Xonoti's rockets aren't homing, they are steerable, which is more balanced because you give up dps potential in order to steer them

I'm assuming the homing rockets will have some sort of dps nerf or something so that the primary fire isn't useless.
I think I'm gonna hold off on putting any money towards this for now but I'll definitely keep it on my radar. This and Reflex look like they have a lot of potential.
Man, I just checked on Reflex again, and the most recent video blew my mind away.
Can't wait.

The maps are cpm maps, the movement is cpm movement, the pickups/weapons are all quake pickups/weapons. There is literally not one original thought or mechanic put into this game *so far*.
I don't understand the hype either.
