You know, not just stuff that's technically in the genre, but the really scary stuff that has you sleeping with the light on.
Personally, I think H.P. Lovecraft's The Lurking Fear was horrifying. I'm a fan of Dagon as well, but that's more creepy than scary.
Seen a lot of folks talking about House of Leaves, but apparently that translates poorly into ebook format. Alas.

Thomas Harris books. "Red Dragon" especially.

Apparently Thomas Ligotti is really good at psychological and cosmic horror. But his stuff tends to be difficult to get a hold of.
Ligotti's work was a big inspiration for True Detective, so if you like True Detective, give that a go.

I have no mouth and I must scream by Harlan Ellison. It's a short story, you can find a pdf online by googling. Alternatively you can read the TF2 version here http://pastebin.com/jry1GApv
It's not exactly scary as much as it is extremely chilling.

House of Leaves would only really work in digital format if it had hyperlinking throughout, it would be difficult to arrange. Definitely recommend a physical copy.
