ComangliaSnowshoeI need someone to confirm this but, can't you just use
m_rawinput "1"
m_filter "0"
m_customaccel "0"
m_mouseaccel1 "0"
m_mouseaccel2 "0"

instead of
-useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd
?

-useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd if I recall these don't actually do anything anymore.

RhapsodyYou're already execing the CFG every time you open up TF2 it's detrimental to long term FPS to remove -dxlevel XX
What do you mean? All -dxlevel XX does is set your DirectX level to the specified one and reset your graphical settings, since that's a side effect of changing the DirectX level. Keeping it in startup properties means it does this EVERY launch, which only makes it so that you have to redo the options each time. There's no benefit.

I'll post my benchmarks later today when I get home, and once again "redoing the options each time" doesn't matter when you have a autoexec cfg.

so after these benchmarks were posted, is it safe to say that the following statement is false advertising?

Since Chris' configs were abandoned, this one is the better choice, being that it's active and is updated with more convars that increase performance.

It matters when hes writing most of the options to the config not the autoexec by using writeconfig. and it also slows down alt tabbing to leave it in. Sometimes it will even make u crash when u alt tab if u leave it in. So please do not spread this misinformation.

I'm constantly adding convars that we discover that increase performance. There is most definitely a gain.

well...you're using his exact setup for the most part. perhaps you can't get much better than chris' fps config. i also felt like chris labeled his sections fairly well, and it was pretty customizable if you had a little bit of scripting knowledge, although a setup wizard would be nice for newer tf2 players.

M0re's fps config from several years ago still gives me more(might not apply to other people but it will at least give you just as much) fps than your config(that gives me almost the exact same fps as chris' configs) so I'm not so sure about your statement.

I looked through M0re's and used most of the convars he had that I didn't. Since I'm moving my STeam installation to a new SSD at the moment I can't test it, but there's probably some sort of gain.

Snowshoer_queued_decals 1 is unstable for me. But I've had cl_threaded_bone_setup 1 for a long time, no problems.

I'll add a notice that they exist in the next update and comment them out.

On another note, if you're getting worse FPS than what I stated you likely would, then that may be due to experimental changes that I've been trying recently, or changes that could be made to improve it, since these changes might not be compatible or effective on all systems (r_queued_decals 1 and cl_threaded_bone_setup 1 being prime examples). I apologize for such occurances, but that's why we're trying to get this all figured out and find out what can give us the best FPS.

SpannzerCan you make a dx 8 cfg at some point as well please? Don't leave our toaster PCs in the dark

There's nothing I need to change for DX8 mode. Just add -dxlevel 81 to your launch options instead of -dxlevel 90, and remove it after you launch the game once.

You put it in your autoexec and then type 'setup'.

hooliliterally the only difference between highframes and maxframes are these cvars

mat_picmip 2
mat_specular 0
mat_trilinear 0
mp_decals 1
r_decals 1

also, i'm having a hard time finding how your "cfg" is supposed to be useful? it basically combines cvars from chris highframes with some stuff that is not necessary and does not benefit you in terms of fps?
also, like someone said above, chris cfg is already pretty organized, there's nothing else that could be added to make it "more documented".

this is proved by the benchmarks already posted here by several users that shows no noticeable fps gain, yet you say, and i quote

Rhapsodybe superior in every way

active and is updated with more convars that increase performance

documented much more thoroughly than Chris' was

completely re-organized in a neater fashion, and is much more user-friendy and intuitive.

apparently, people get -fragged when you criticize something

there are already several benchmarks showing little to no fps gain between rhapsody cfg and chris, the only fps difference that has been appearing is between -dx9 and -dx8, with the latter being better

so, how is that supposed to be superior? my intention is not to bash, but to understand what is the benefit people are going to receive using your cfg, instead of what they are already using? benchmarks don't lie

because so far, people are only using with the mindset that a new cfg that is not chris has appeared and it's going to get you way more fps highframes already does.

Not really directly to do with this config, but I was just testing some different settings out (and this config seems to get almost exactly the same amount of frames as maxframes for me), and when I disabled net_graph 3, I got about 20 extra fps. I never realised how much of a drain net_graph could be.

It is a project intended to be superior in every way, and that's progressive. It is indeed documented more, if you look (Chris didn't describe what most of the convars do, I did), and it's user-friendly/intuitive thanks to the in-game setup.

People have reported FPS gain on Reddit and here, and I myself have gained performance, hence why I released it. As stated a page back, this is a chance to make a community project that can help us all out, instead of arguing about it. What is deemed unneeded, I remove. I never stated that I'm an expert. This project depends on information already released or the information people are willing to disclose for it.

I'll finish off by saying that it matters that this exists; Chris' configs were abandoned and public improvements wouldn't be made any longer. There was no one willing to step up to the plate to update them publicly until now.

On another note, I've updated the config again. The two convars that were causing crashes are now commented and mentioned in the FPS section in the wizard (for people that still want to use them), and cl_software_cursor is commented since it was preventing some people from moving their cursor up, theoretically.
