foxyTF2GamesI've been in TF2Center and there are moments when there aren't any lobbies available, because it's not easiest thing to create them, to be honest.
You've played 7 games there. Creating a lobby with your own server is up to 6 clicks and typing in an IP and password. More if you want to add restrictions (which you don't appear to support).
TF2GamesLike I said, we operate our own machines and we keep them up and running. We have very high-quality hosts around the world.
Servers can fail, datacenter ISPs can fail. With servers around the world, you will have problems with them.

I'll be looking on with interest to see if this takes off though. I know from experience that saying things and releasing them are very different.

Yes, you have to type an IP and password. Which means you need to have a server to use (IP & Server's RCON password). What makes this site quite easy it's that when you create a lobby, it takes one of 5000 servers and you'll be able to use it as your lobby host server.

Also it is not me just handling all the servers by myself. We really have a team, it couldn't be possible all alone.

TF2GamesNo no no no no.. It's not even close to 30,000$/month. Where do you guys get these prices? Look, I understand if you're searching for TF2 server hosting service, they are always overpriced, mainly because lots of people order them and they need more and more machines all the time to keep up with the amount of customers.

But we operate our OWN machines, which means we don't rent any machines. These machines are placed around the world and we've cooperated with several hosts to ensure that they will be up and running without problems.

I'll do some maths.

OVH is one of the cheaper server providers in the EU and US. Their best (EU) server offers 24 cores for £160 per month, and 128GB ram. The theoretical limit of servers on that one machine (based off RAM) is 256, but practically 50 would be pushing it based on the CPU, if you want games to not stutter.

So you'd need 100 physical servers, at £160 each per month = £16,000 (around $25,000).

And OVH is the cheap end of the spectrum.

Also, with serveme.tf doing so well, obtaining a server really isn't difficult these days.

Mr. Foxy, it is so hard to understand that we don't rent from OVH or any other sources? We operate these machines by ourselves. The only thing we really pay for is the hosts. Try to understand this thing before having a chat with us, okay? It's like we pay for ports & internet access for our machines.

Also I say again, I do not do all by myself. I'm not behind all those servers, not at all. You just don't seem to understand how it all works here, sorry.

And for last, let me mention that EU and US are not our only hosting locations. There are also lots of hosts in east of this beautiful earth, have you seen their prices?

I think part of the reason you're receiving flack here is your attitude in regards to questions. It's hard to trust you when there's nothing to show, just words. Talk is cheap. We're a very supportive community: show us a website that does half of what you're talking about and is supported and has active and fair admins and we'll get it off the ground. Right now people who want more information aren't being given very satisfying answers, just vague promises with typos that don't exactly always make sense.

probably because a lot of what he's saying makes no sense at all and the entire post reads like a scam

personally I wouldn't ever log into this site with my steam credentials after this thread

the dude is supposedly the main developer and thinks that it is possible for a server to "detect modifications" on the client without running code on the client machine

Yes, I know how server hosting works. For a time, we (at TF2Center) provided our own server there, and just paid for the rack space and transit providers. It wasn't cheap :)

Try to understand that other people do know what they're talking about, and asking legitimate questions (such as "Why do you need 5000 servers for an active community of 20,000?")

I'm not sure what to think here. I personally do not know much about maintaining a lot of servers (let alone 5000) but I have to say this is really sketchy. Prove yourself to me, the community, all of us doubters that you can perform this. Then I'll use your site

5000 servers!
Some questions id like to ask
i really hope some of them are located in asia.
especially ones close to china(even 1 i would be happy enough).
Because atm there is no pug/lobby/scrim servers at all in china (talking about mainland here).
Anything close to comp tf2 is only like 1 or 2 mge server.
Do you have any plans to have servers located in asia?

I want to see it working. That would convince me. This weird marketing speak is just weirding everyone out.

Do you have any contact with existing established community leaders? The fact that lange himself seems to have no idea of what this is doesn't inspire confidence.

On the Reddit thread they say Asia and a wide range of areas are supported. Would be good to get some clearer details of how they are planning to be efficient and sustainable with the 5000 servers though.

who are you? do you play competitive/does anyone actually KNOW you as part of the community? if you dont play the game why would you invest so much in this? and why can't you be translucent about this project and actually give us a hint about who you are. Answering direct questions with "you don't need to worry about it" or a straight yes/no without explanation makes you seem pretty suspicious. And why would you run such an absurdly exorbitant number of servers?

Actually I've thought about this. The worst thing you could do the the community is sponsor a huge project that out resources everyone else and causes them to die from lack of use, and then you stop funding it 6 months - a year down the line.

This is why people want to know who you are and where the money is coming from.

TF2GamesLangeTF2GamesWe have few guys from the team that actually have jobs in real life from this side. And you don't always need portfolio to be good at something. :)
You're dodging the question. Why should I believe that anyone on your team is as competent as you claim them to be? Can you show me any past work that proves you know what you are doing?

Have I even asked you to believe? If you don't believe us, just don't. We are not here to convince you and we will not show you any of our team member's portfolios. All we are here to say is that we're working on a project and it's going very well and it will be released very soon.

I won't tell you how to manage your project, but I think it'd be better if you released some details on progress and previous works, so people will have something to actually look forward to and spread the word about - as opposed to other words.

I mean, would you be more willing to hire a video editor that had a video with good reception, or someone that just says, "Dw, I'm good, trust me"?

But yeah, GL, hoping to see what comes of this.

TF2Games, can you elaborate more on why ghosting is not possible with live viewers in the server? On reddit you posted: 'That will not be possible. There are so many ways to avoid it.' But unless there is an stv or delay, I don't think there is a means (that I am aware of) that will stop live ghosting.
Also, in case your 5000 servers do have trouble, you should add an option to add your own server to the queue as a lobby just like TF2Center.

Honestly... I would watch out, you could see thousands of people lose their accounts soon.

And I say this because,

Someone now one knows anything about(!), comes here claiming they are a team (!) creating a massive webpage, similar to some that exist already (!), specifically states that they bought a 300$ anti cheat program to be run server side that will 100% detect (!), with 5000 gameservers possibility (!).

As paypal loves to say, it sounds too good to be true. Maybe if this were cs go or dota, but this is tf2. Also, for someone with this big of a project in hand, the proffesionality is not what you would expect.

Anyways, as someone else said, I will be watching out closely when logging in. Remember that when you logiun through steam, they don't get the password but an 'open' key, so all you need to watch out is that when you login, it's https and verified steam. (I think?)
