I bought the Razer BlackWidow Tournament Edition Stealth on a whim during black Friday for a cheap $50. It won't ship until the beginning of January so I'm reconsidering my decision.
I've never owned a Razer product and have always avoided them due to their reputation. Has anyone here used the Razer Orange Switch? I'm really curious to see if it's worth it. Note: any keyboard is an upgrade from my current.
Ideally I would like a keyboard that is great for both gaming and typing since my day is split 60/40 between work (writing) and games. Also 10-keyless. I've had my eyes on browns for a while, but I'm not sure.
So my main point is: should I test out the Razer or get a different keyboard all together? My budget pretty much caps off at $100-$120. If Razer is really just awful for mechanical keyboards what do you guys recommend? Bonus points if the best deal is on Amazon.

TVS Gold. Pretty cheap (Rs. 1900 = ~ 30 USD). Uses Cherry MX Blue keys, has a cult following in India (Although you'd need to pay delivery costs if youre living outside India).

Not awful, but you won't hear good things about it here.
50$ is a pretty sweet deal though considering normal retail prices.
Mine (< 2012) died a few weeks ago, it used CHERRY MX Blue switches so I won't help you :/
Ordered Noppoo from amazon.co.uk already since it was on a sale.

This thing is cheaper than switches alone here (they are around 1$ pc.). Is the retail price of the switches really that much higher from wholesale?

Never tried any of the new Razer mechanical keys, but I really don't see where the hate for Razer products comes from (besides their pretty high prices...). As Cherry said, $50 is cheap af and even if you find you are not happy with the keys, just throw it on eBay and you'll likely still manage to make a profit.
Same as Cherry again, I have a Noppoo (Choc Mini), with mx black switches. Having used both blue and browns before, I find blacks to be by far the most comfortable and 'easy-to-use' for extensive typing. Might take a week or two to get used to the extra pressure needed for each keystroke, but on the whole it just feels...better? It might just be the fact I tend to rest my fingers on keys quite a bit, but with blues and browns I tended to accidentally add keystrokes I didn't intend to...
Either way, this Noppoo is by far the best keyboard I have used and seems to perfectly fit my needs; small size (ten-keyless), full functionality of a full-size, decent build quality, black switches.

I have the razer black widow tournament edition and it broke after a little less than a year. I took it to one LAN and the USB port on the keyboard broke and had to send it in. I'm currently waiting on my new das keyboard (this is the 3rd razer product that has broken within a year, will never support them again).

WASD CODE boards come with thin ABS keycaps, so those thick PBT caps from vortex will be very different.
double-shot PBTs will, practically, never ever fade or lose texture.
PBT beats ABS by a long shot, in my opinion. feels better, lasts longer.
WASD keycaps are typically lower quality thin ABS, where vortex's PBTs are typically higher quality thick PBT.
PBT double shot is pretty much the end of the line when it comes to keycaps.
(double-shotting wasn't available for PBT keycaps for a long time, and its availability is rather new. it means that the legends are molded into the keycap itself, rather than printed/dyed/etched on top of the keycap at a later stage. this is why double shotted legends will not fade.)
so, to answer your question: they are way better!

There are a few vintage keyboards with omron switches, they were like a clone of complicated Alps, not sure what these new ones on the logi board are like.

$60 is the price difference for the K65 and the K65 RGB.
I got the K65 for $65 which actually would actually set the price difference to $85. I don't think I would spend $85 to upgrade my current keyboard to have backlit keys. >_>

Totally agree. I enjoyed reading a typist's review, which is why I shared it here. Interesting break from the typical "unboxing" and gamer reviews I've seen around.

I agree the keycaps look miserable. The RGB keyboards are ugly imo. The design of the boards themselves.
The major gaming brands usually stray away from the less common switches. So you'll be stuck with red, brown, blue and black mostly.
I've been using topre 45g for 3 months and it's been wonderful.

I'm looking for a new mechanical keyboard to replace my SteelSeries 6gv2. Still works great, but I've had this for about 3-4 years now and just want something new. I want to give a TKL board a shot as my current board's numpad rests on my mousepad. Willing to spend up to ~150.
-TKL
-Red or Brown Switches
-Maybe backlit (I am an awful typist and I have to look at my keys, so this would help in the dark)
Any suggestions? For a while I was considering the noppoo choc mini, but I don't really keep up with keyboards.

@Rick: that kb has kalih switches, like razer keyboards do. thermaltake upped the warranty on them personally to 5 years, so i don't see a problem. They are theoretically just cherry knockoffs.
@dis: These are great, top of your price
These are a bit cheaper, essentially the same thing
@scilliant: hell yeah man. actual cherry boards are fine, just very basic.

http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/images/products/large_209_large_208_RACEPBT_MAIN.jpg
its the kbt race limited edition, its a little old, but for a tenkeyless its amazing, its in the 75% layout so its not imo rediculously small as the 60% ones are, but still not as big as the ones that have the added row for the arrow keys like the leopolds. the backlighting on them is very nice aswell. than again, considering how old it is, if this doesnt interest you i would still reccomend keyboards in the 75% layout. its just my preference as i find 60% rediculously small.
