First was [5E] (five elements) arena server. Then from there I played(and admin'd on) the drunken brawl. -DB!- #2 was the best server ever, a populated community server with no spread/no crits.

TexasTeamPlayers/TeamPlayerGaming. My brother got me into that community through BF2. The xen guys were semi regular way back when, and getting stomped by enigma, yaug, and solid snake inspired me to improve, and look into 6v6. All too soon it was getting 5-0'd by them in scrims.
Played a bunch on OTD, Q, Ducksoup, and Slaughterhouse.

Came from TheVille. They're fairly anti-comp so it took me forever to get around to 6s.

SPUF, -TRC-, then Axls Tf2. All of which have died or in the process of its slow and painful death.
Axls Tf2 got me into comp when we joined the ETF2L community Highlander Challenge. My team got to Round 4 where we were destroyed by Yz50, toilethumor, zigster, and others. The community had 3 full teams that got to rounds 5, 4, and 3. Two of our tems would eventually move right on to UGC plat highlander and get decimated by bfl/Desa.

TotalPunishmentGaming ]TPG[ was my very first community. They only accepted 18 or older so I lied when I was 15 in my application. I ended up trying out for their 6v6 team that was run by Che and haven't pubbed since.

First servers I tried, met a lot of nice people there that initially got me into competitive TF2. One of the few pub server providers I can go to and not hate my life.

07/08 started being a regular on Nemu's Stomping Ground (24/7 dustbowl). Then in 08 when the goldrush update hit they formed a second server: Nemu's Proving Ground (24/7 goldrush). Met a lot of cool people there. Some of the regulars formed another forum/server: RaidGaming [RG] to which I joined. Great times and great friends made. We formed a 6v6 CEVO team but my pc died so I couldn't play. (they got crushed by pandemic). I returned and the server was dead, but we all started becoming regulars on Axl's Tf2. Met a dude there who asked me to play in an in-house HL, then CP Pugs.
I still love pubbing to this day. I've been a regular on a lot of servers such as The Rabbit Hole, Protf2, Hell's Kitchen, FreeFrag, FUG, Lotus, The Furry Pound, etc.

the retirees instant respawn 2fort server then moved to Ænema 24/7 hightower server where i abused admin a shitton. Ænema hightower is pretty much dead after the original members quit and I got banned from retirees.

The -FAP- Clan server, good community with skilled people occasionally joining in. Still play in that server, although its not as filled as it used to be.

Did stuff like Lotus for a bit, then became a regular on a server called Ponyville.
Bronies were somehow the catalyst to the growth of a lot of comp tf2.

A real life friend introduced me to the game and I quickly became a part of the pub community they were involved with, The Rabbit Hole. I eventually became an admin there and after a few years the community had a bit of a falling out and people stopped playing the game as much. The only thing left from it is a mumble, although I don't go there very often these days.
In fact, the people I played with on my last team this past year (fvl, The Burrito Man) are actually the same people I started playing competitive TF2 with back in 2011.

Played on star's server a lot back when HLstats was a thing on it. It was a lot of fun, and I met people that got my started in comp tf2
