I know we haven't even tried this yet but I feel like this is something we should do more than once.
If we want valve to accept the 6s game mode and re balance the bs weapons and you know, all that stuff, we wont get anything changed in a one day stream even if it would be a fun thing to do.
Like, we gather a bunch of top players to play a "no whitelist" cup once a month or so and add a small prize poll of keys, steam games etc. just to make them at least try a little bit.
(I wouldn't mind donating for this.)
Given we do it more than once we could actually see what pros find to be new viable options that they will actually return to. While also getting more opportunities to try all the weapons instead of having them equip the stupidest combos they can imagine cause "yolo".
Would love to see what crit a cola would do in 6s rather than having scouts use the wrap assassin melee only for example.
As stated earlier in this thread. It takes a while for new unlocks to find their place.
Either way I'm looking forward to the event!

Imagine how awful it would be if this thing turns out to be fun
Fingers crossed for an exploit-ridden short circuit shitfest otherwise the entire history of comp tf2 is based on a lie.
Seriously though, people who are playing can you please resist the temptation to fuck around and actually try to win? Because the last time I know of this being tried was a few years ago around i49 and it was just a mess of joke weapons, someone ran permanent rocket jumper... on granary... and numlocked was using the cow mangler, pretty much a straight downgrade. Etcetera. It basically made the game worthless, you can't learn anything about weapon balance when people are just fucking around, so guys please please please try to actually win. Abuse the heck out of every broken weapon to get even the slightest edge, please.
Looking forward to this, thanks everyone.

Imo the class limit of 2 on every class that starts with s is pretty silly and is way too specific for Valve to ever endorse. This format still allows players to use the more efficient 6s cookie cutter classes and if a pro team would really want to win they would just run the cookie cutter lineup. We know valve doesn't support this cookie cutter lineup and I doubt silly weapons will change their mind. Realistically I think Valves game would be 6s format with universal class limit of either 1 or 2 on every class.

...and Salade au thon for the awesome art!
Where's the art I don't see any art :(
Might actually watch this out of curiosity.
Pity no full teams - would probably be more representative with proper teamplay and all that, but people are lazy.

When i was told about this i thought there would be a pick/ban system involved like in mobas (right? I never play/watch that stuff but i believe before the game both get turns at picking/banning certain heroes???)
Turns out this is just a pure, unadulterated, "allow everything" match? Thats not really interesting imo. Also, Valve could perfectly fine get behind a matchmaking system with item pick/bans i think...

Yeah I think that as well skeej, and could be something we experiment with in the future. But that opens up a whole new huge can of worms as to how you perform the pick/ban system, how many weapons you ban, whether you pick/ban classes etc etc. It's a very hard thing to judge.

SeagullAdmirableJust a first step, hopefully we can experiment further with simplified class limits like a universal 1 or 2 or dare I say no limit?! Disgusting filth :o
Really hoping you all remove the class limits entirely. It makes it much more interesting for spectators (at least for me personally), and it allows teams to change up their class composition depending on the type of strategy they want to run. I also think it might be hard to determine overall unlock balance when some of it could be innately overpowered in a 6v6 class limit format. Either way, I can't wait to watch :)
That's something we *could* do during the second evening, but shh nothing is decided yet..

True. I'd be happy to provide my input in any possible brainstorm session about this!
In such a scenario, there should definitely be pre-decided teams, as you'd like to work on some "strats" or at least pick/ban mindgames or cherrypicks based on specific player proficiency with gimmicky unlock X

I know it's good we expand our horizons and remove class limits and unlocks restrictions to try new things, but I think it has been tried before (particularly class limits) hence why its banned, I just can't see a game with 2 heavies or 2 engineers being any fun to watch.
Is it inherently bad that heavies are limited to 1 for example? Haven't we tested it dozens of times to come to the conclusion that the game is better off with that restriction? This is what I'm wondering, are all the years of experience, experiments and rulemaking void just because Valve doesn't like the 6s metagame?
I can see this not being true for unlocks, because some of them get banned without even seeing competitive usage at all, but that's not true for class limits, we have tried a lot in that regard, hell, I remember seeing 2 demos, guess why we don't see it anymore? Because it didn't work out.

Yeah, but very few teams run it out of knowledge of its stupidity.
Also the powerjack is legal in UGC 6s.

My gold team was god awful but we won a fair few scrims and a couple of matches by running 24/7 quickfixed heavy.

reillyWe're just seeing if anything is blatantly horribly broken with normal tf2, and going from there.
I hope that a decision of what is and isn't broken isn't decided with just one showmatch but rather over extensive testing over a significant period of time. There's so much bias against many of these "OP" weapons that the first few games may end up with people letting themselves lose focus and their ability to improvise when faced against something they fear to be too strong.
Edit: what Twisted said a few posts above me, must have missed that post :s

This is more showing Valve comp being played *seriously* with no whitelists in the hopes of getting in game matchmaking, rather than just messing around with joke weapons like the rocket jumper.
It's also a way of showing Valve how dumb some weapons are; FaN + Crit-A-Cola can do insane damage
