AllealIf they can't be bothered to check the options menu then they're probably not serious enough to appreciate the benefits customizing can give them. But why would you ever want to bring your serious players down to the level of the lazy and casual ones? That doesn't make for a good game. That line of reasoning is almost word for word the same as Sakurai's when he made Brawl different from Melee, and see how that turned out.

I agree, an FOV slider isn't bad at all and is just personal preference. Letting players have a simple customization option like that is completely fine in a FPS. People will be able to have the option to play at which fov they choose and deem "fine" for them, it doesn't/shouldn't mess with gameplay at all. People have the ability to explore their options and learn more when they play a game, that's learning the game and improving. Any or every game is like that, you learn what you can do and what happens in order to play well. Also, just make some sort of tutorial that will have players aware of the fov slider and change it to how they like it, easy. It's shit like this that makes me more mad at Blizzard/devs in general.

fuck i hate muselk so much
shouldn't be allowed to stream on tf.tv

was he invited to this event? because it fucking boggles me that such a shitlord at tf2 is "giving his impressions" on a new game, when really "good" tf2 players should be invited. but oh well ytcancer

he's only doing it so he gets more subs and can act like he was a "pioneer" of overwatch... also pls notice the obvious dicksucking of jerma and star in the video. jesus christ.

Teapot_muselk didn't actually say anything factual or give any details about the game at all. Just really vague comments to make the game sound appealing without having to say anything meaningful.

i see you've listened 2 his commentaries nice

Why? because he is primarily a pubber? other streamers on the sidebar are pubbers, hell I can think of at least one that has 0 comp experience.

Of course he was invited. By shitlord do you mean bad at the game? because he definitely wasn't the worst player there. Why should the players they invite be based on skill anyways? If it were about skill do you think star or jerma would have been invited(don't get me wrong star is solid but I am sure more talented options were available) Blizzard gets to decide who they invite and if they decide not to invite high level players then what is the problem with that?

Gunbladehe's only doing it so he gets more subs and can act like he was a "pioneer" of overwatch... also pls notice the obvious dicksucking of jerma and star in the video. jesus christ.

There is nothing wrong with doing it for subs. Hollywood celebrities do it all the time. At some level I fucking do that shit at work. I do the thing that is likely to get me more money. For me that is working harder/longer than the next guy. For muselk it is promoting a new game. Also yes there was star/jerma dicksucking because he was very upfront about the fact that he would be fanboying about them. It isn't like he was trying to fucking hide it.

No blizzard is trying attract every single player of tf2 into overwatch. Every single one. By saying that they will provide competitive, they want us to transfer into watch. By calling ppl like star jerma, they are all already attracting most of the pub audience.
The only thing they can do to fuck this up ::
Comp audience : Add unnecessary retarded restrictions, oh they did it. Comp overwatch is fucked.
Pub audience: get Star to bitch about the game. If he doesnt like the game, that game is doomed to hell. But the possibility of that seems unlikely. Most likely, STAR will like the game, he will upload multiple vids on it and then the pub audience will leave. The future of tf2 looks bleak, but hopefully once a good majority of pub audience leaves, valve realises that the comp audience is clearly important and actually does shit to promote it. Im confident tf2 will do good as an e-sport because its so damn competitive and enjoyable and amazing and i ran out of adjectives. Fuck.

or y'know, once they stop making money off pubbers the whole game goes dead and valve stops caring, seems more likely.

it's always adorable when people around here create this giant vortex of false hope around every new potentially competitive fps, class-based arena shooters especially

saw it with brink, saw it with tribes, saw it with shootmania, saw it with the 10,000 attempts to "revive" quake-style gameplay, and here we are

I guess it's just cuz everyone who stuck around comp tf2 for so long is pretty good at generating false hope

here's a bold prediction of my own: there will NEVER be a truly great competitive fps ever again

hell, there have only been two ever to begin with, plus they keep getting more and more dumbed down

once the power to shape the competitive side of a game transferred from the player base back to the developers and publishers of the world, esports were inevitably going to be dumbed down like crazy, sad but true

Funny that this coincided with esports going huge in the world dont you think?

May it be because the playerbase you talk about wasnt the big bunch of people that played but rather the more extreme and devoted of all the players thus shaping the games to make them ultra hardcore and unreachable?:D

I think that everyone should stop being such an ass to muselk. He's a good guy. Either way, he is kinda sucking on the overwatch nipple

The customization kinda concerns me. When you download tf2, it starts as a blank slate. You can fit it and form it any way you want. For overwatch, we might not have that kind of customization, like cl_interp, cl_interp_ratio, r_drawviewmodel, among many others. Who knows if we'll even have a dev console.

Muselk does make a good point about the skill ceiling, which we haven't really discussed yet. It's got really (frankly) shitty movement mechanics and a lot of it seems really easy. Like, charge attacks that do work for you? For real (watch the release trailer or whatever it's called and skip to the reaper part). Tf2 high level players that are at the top of the game (b4nny, clockwork) are the best, but they can still get better. I feel like it's not gonna be like that in overwatch, with decreased longevity and getting bored quickly. While some players have stayed active in tf2 for eight years, i don't think we'll see that with overwatch.

This is a bit off-topic, but I thought I'd clear up the FoV confusion
Vertical Field of View has to change with the horizontal Field of View, assuming a constant Aspect Ratio.
There are 4 options regarding TF2 fov, assuming fov_desired 90:
1. vFov is 75.00°, hFov is 91.31° at 4:3 and 107.52° at 16:9
2. vFov is 73.74°, hFov is 90.00° at 4:3 and 106.26° at 16:9
3. vFov is 75.00°, hFov is 90.00° at 4:3 and the source engine is a broken piece of shit.
4. vFov is something else entirely and the source engine may or may not be a broken piece of shit.

Take a guess!

The winner is *drumroll*

Show Content
Number 4, the comedy option.
fov_desired and vFov are correlated and vFov, aspect ratio and hFov are correlated, but fov_desired equals neither vFov nor hFov.
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Field_of_View doesn't even come close to the truth. The fov_desired default value is indeed 75 but it's definitely not vFov 75. In fact on 4:3 even with fov_desired 90 hFov seems to be slightly less than 90°. I might calculate the exact value on a grid map some day. With fov_desired 75 (the default) hFov is obviously far less than 90°, if vFov were indeed 75° there would be visibly significant distortion.

Back on topic:
60° vertical Field of View and an Aspect Ratio of 16:9 would give you a vertical Field of View of 91.49°. That means either someone just demonstrated impressive rounding skills or they can't afford more than three digits of precision.

lacking customization options is a thing in mobas, where they only offer the bare minimum to be changed graphically (drop down menu from low to high, no fov sliders, interface cant really be changed, etc.) you guys KNEW this game was an fps/moba hybrid of some sort and you were surprised?

youre literally getting mad about expectations that you forced onto a game that the developers didnt even IMPLY was going to be in the game, youre retarded, sorry.

should be happy that they didnt make the FOV 65/70 like every other FPS dev seems to think is the "best option" and that they made it 90, even if it isnt the same as TF2/Quake 90.

edit: even CSGO has pretty piss poor customization options, and thats the biggest fps right now. players dont need 100s of console commands to fine tweak their game to have fun and be happy with their game, they just want to play.

I actually really hope Overwatch is just good enough to encourage Valve to do some major work on TF2 to compete, like a port to Source 2 or matchmaking. The sad thing at this point is that I doubt Overwatch is even going to be good enough to really compete with TF2. Best case it'll draw from the MOBA crowd, it seems.

Either way, we'll see at PAX in a few days how good/bad Overwatch actually is. Until then we're just speculating.

it's a new Blizzard IP with a guaranteed pulse on release

lots of peeps in TF2 are bored out of their minds and want to learn a new game that isn't cs:go

Blizzard is positioning this game to be accessible to casual as well as competitive players

popular casual scene = healthy competitive scene

not sure why it is difficult to believe this game will be the new hotness come end of 2015

People bitched (and still bitch) about TF2 limiting FoV to 90...seems the competitive scene did just fine under that restriction.

That lylirra's guys rationale is completely reasonable...just as valve's rationale to limit FOV to 90 in TF2 was reasonable. It may not be what you prefer (it's not what I prefer), but it's silly to throw a fit over it and claim that it somehow impacts the competitive nature of the game when in reality it's actually beneficial for a more EVEN competitive environment across the player base. Obscure interp tweaks, bumping up your FOV and tweaking individual graphics settings to improve visibility are small things competitive players in TF2 do to create small advantages in their play. Yes, to the laymen even bumping up your FOV is an obscure thing. Sure it's fun to explore those and discover those...I generally look for those things in any new game, but it's FAR from a requirement for a competitive game. ...Just don't make FOV crushingly small to the point it causes nausea for people and I won't have a problem playing under the same FOV as everyone else.

CS:GO is locked down significantly compared to any previous iteration and seems to be doing just fine.

PheeshPeople bitched (and still bitch) about TF2 limiting FoV to 90...seems the competitive scene did just fine under that restriction.

I don't think it's the actual locking of the FOV that's the issue here. It's ideology that is required to be behind that decision. First it's a 72FOV, what's next? Is blizzard just going to completely disregard any competitive decision making?

Personally I trust blizzard, but I see why people don't.
