With all the changes happening to Twitch, I wonder if some people would be interested in moving to hitbox.tv. I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure tftv only list Twitch streams on the sidebar. Can we expand into other sites like Hitbox?
Hitbox is ran by the same guys who ran own3d.tv, a streaming service that basically ripped off a ton of its streamers.
Lesser of two evils.
edit: this was secondhand, said it w/o back knowledge. i apologize, but there's still something just off about that site

I see this posted everywhere, but no one has sources, and its mostly hearsay from reddit, which is the last place you want to get your information from.
Doing a little digging I could only find some details. The only person their from own3d was someone who was brought into own3d after they already fucked people over, and was brought in to try and save it from going down in flames, but it was already too far gone.
I'd love to see some real sources on either version, really. Not using hitbox over reddit hearsay seems awful silly to me.

iirc hitbox is run by the guys who wrote the software own3d used. honestly hitbox is an okay site, I watch a dota tourney on there regularly and it has always operated smoothly.

Not to mention there isn't a 30 second delay between stream and chat. Usually if the streamer is paying attention to his chat, he'll respond to what you say on stream in a matter of like 3 seconds.

The delay being better on hitbox is almost certainly because twitch handles so much more traffic.
I tried streaming on hitbox once just to test something that was wrong with my stream, and: my stream will drop FPS on twitch without dropping frames. Meaning, I'm streaming at 60, but it constantly goes down to 30 (or 30 down to 15) for no reason.
Hitbox didn't do this, stayed constant at my stream fps.
Can't really comment on delay because I didn't get a single viewer the whole night.
Unfortunately it's kind of a circular thing. Why stream to hitbox when there's so much less viewership? Why watch hitbox when there's so many fewer streamers? etc.

Knee jerk or not, a lot more people are talking about hitbox then they were before. I don't feel like this site should limit itself to just Twitch when there are other options available that people would like to use (if it is limited, I don't know how the sidebar adding works and such).

Twitch's delay was 5-10 seconds for a long time. Then they suddenly increased it to 30-40 seconds overnight. It's just the way they chose to run their system, not a direct result of the number of users.

That doesn't make any sense. Of course they increased it to 30-40 seconds as a direct result of the number of users.

if more people streamed to hitbox it would be on the sidebar, but the problem is that that incentive to stream there is not present. twitch, up until now, was infinitely better and more popular and nobody is going to stream to a site where tf2 and indeed many games have almost no presence outside of a couple hearthstone or league of legends streams. unless you have a previous audience on something other than twitch you would have a hard time gaining an audience on hitbox.

Hitbox is pretty nice and smooth. 3 second (4 seconds if the channel has a poll up )channel load vs Twitch's 7~ seconds is a nice change. Do consider adding hitbox to the sidebar if you are bored one day.
hitbox streams always load super slow for me and it feels like the layout tries too hard to look "stylish"
just my opinion doe

I feel like adding Hitbox streams to the sidebar fixes that issue on the TF2 side. Lets be real here, comp tf2 streams aren't real popular, and if it wasn't for sites like tftv listing them, not many people would find them. Someone new could stream TF2 and get the same amount of viewers on either service because the game isn't a popular stream game, but being added to places like this help much more then the original site its hosted on.

I tried a really short stream on hitbox today, and going back to 5 second delay feels fantastic. My stream is tiny, so immediate interaction is a great thing. I'd seriously consider switching to hitbox if it were implemented in the tftv sidebar.
azubu looks pretty nice too, but i'm gonna give it maybe a week or 2 before i decide to leave or stay with twitch. it seems everyone is moving to hitbox already anyway tho lol

But I thought the whole idea of streaming especially on a large platform such as twitch was to attract more attention (potential sponsors/new players) into comp tf2. But instead moving to a smaller platform so CURRENT users of tf.tv can watch instead seems like a narrow-sighted solution.

^ I'm not asking everyone to move, hell, I'm not asking anyone to move, I'm just asking for the option for hitbox streams to be displayed on the sidebar.

They changed the way their system was run to be more efficient with the large number of streamers they were getting.

I understand that you proposed this more as a question / testing the water but the more threads / fuss that is kicked up about the ordeal the more this name gets thrown around and soon a hitbox.tv bandwagon forms.

this isnt a twitch issue or google issue or 'x evil company issue'. when you scale into a huge company you become a target for viacom to come and try and sue you for $1bil.
Tested it recently, and I totally approve hitbox.tv.
Better quality with less lag, I can choose the delay (min no delay, in reality 3sec).
A good Dashboard to popout for manage the stream.

dont forget, hitbox doesnt mute vods
edit holy shit i just realized someone bumped this thread from sooooo long ago oops

Twitch actually only mutes the part of the vod that the song is playing. It's really pretty fair.
Doesn't it mute the 30 block chunk if it has any copywritten music?
No, newer vods only mute around the music. Roughly first 21 mins and the last 6 here http://www.twitch.tv/teamfortresstv/v/3892712

Slin mentioned this on his stream recently, but the biggest reason for Twitch's 30 second delay is for video conversion to mobile formats (assuming i'm remembering correctly).
