My initial pick is usually Sgt Pepper's (The Beatles) if someone asks me on the spot, but when I think about it a little harder, I think of albums like Quadrophenia (The Who), Kid A (Radiohead) and Funeral (Arcade Fire).

After a bit of thought, I've kind of settled on Wish You Were Here or Animals (both Pink Floyd).

Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place
Simply one of the best post-rock albums of all time, in my opinion. The entire album is very atmospheric and melodic, varying from daunting to peaceful.

Oasis - Don't Believe the Truth
The Japanese edition is a close-running favorite of mine; I can't imagine listening to this album w/o the final two tracks 'Can You See It Now (I Can See It Now!!)' and 'Sitting Here in Silence (On My Own)'. It's good w/o the two tracks, but they sell the ending for me. Album that could appeal to a pretty broad audience.

Asian Kungfu Generation - Fanclub
Very melodic J-Rock album ingrained with the typical akg style (soft and harsh here-and-there), kicking out some of their best and the best rock I've heard period.

Honorable mention to Pink Floyd's 'Meddle' (1972).

Forgot about these. The Stone Roses might just be the most hit heavy album of all time.
