abcnews Surveillance footage shows the robbers were dressed as construction workers, complete with hard hats and fluorescent vests.
I don't understand people who commit robbery. It's more than likely that you're gonna get caught eventually. Just get a fucking job or career with whatever useful talent you have and you'll be better off in the end.

what's there to not understand, it's 300 millions dollars lmao
and yeah there's a chance to be caught but some people think it's worth the risk
and almost no career gonna net you 300 mill lol
Neither is robbery when you spend a lot of your life in prison and mostly none of it with that type of money.
not encouraging anybody but its probably a lot easier to rob a bank with it going unsolved vs a murder. Murder has a lot more varibles. These guys are probably going to get caught but ay.

Sounds like your bank robbing plans need some revision then.
if someone robs a bank and isnt caught within the first 24 hours, its likely they will never be caught.
also, robbery in general happens a lot more than youd think and goes unnoticed. people who are in charge of payroll adding extra hours here and there, employees applying a larger discount than they are entitled, its small numbers but it adds up and the bottom line is its stealing.
If you really do it right, I feel as though it'd be one of the easier things to get away with. My car was stolen last semester right out of my parking lot. It was even on camera, but the police couldn't do shit about it. They didn't even really try to find him, and I honestly didn't care all that much, because I knew there was a snowball's chance in hell they were actually going to find who did it. The guy probably does it all of the time, and very skilled at it.
Though of course, there will be a lot more force out there looking for who took 300 million in diamonds, but still, you get the point.
And just to finish the story, they found my car in NYC (I live outside of Philly) on the side of the road a little less than a week after it was stolen, engine and transmission gone. I then get a call later telling me this, and also that my car has been crushed by the department of sanitation.

In this situation there is likely untold amounts of unique jewelry pieces. I imagine a large part of the 300 million is almost unsalable due to the high risk of getting caught when selling.
Probably the best coarse of action would be to just melt down the precious metals and try to sell those off little by little.
Even if there is only 30 million worth of gold/silver that is still a hell of a lot to try to somehow get rid of and convert into cash.

That sucks. And that is absolutely ridiculous that they crushed it without first notifying you. I'm not sure what kind of a car it was, but if it was a decently newish car, I'm sure there was still quite a bit of value in it even without the engine and trans. Car recovery rates are quite high in some parts of the country https://www.yahoo.com/autos/s/best-worst-states-stolen-car-recovery-194300310.html
But yea people usually steal cars to:
1) Joy ride them then them
2) Commit another crime with them
3) Steal parts
Btw did you have comprehensive insurance on your car, or were you SOL?

I'm sorry but I can't pay attention to this thread because I'm still confused. Did that joke go that over your head or am I missing a second joke here?
despite an intruder alarm having gone off at the scene in the early morning hours, it was deemed that no police response was necessary.
I found that part pretty funny
in nyc theres dudes that have been ripping ATM doors off with a car/truck and taking the entire cash box. same crews been goin strong for 2 years.

I guess my response went over several peoples heads... It was kind of a sarcastic stating the obvious type of response. I apologize for not being able to display any sarcastic facial expressions over the internet. One day maybe...

LOL never heard of that before... I have heard of however people installing cameras and card skimmers on ATM's. Then they come back later and collect the camera and skimmer and have a days worth of peoples ATM card #'s and pin #'s.
The most famous bank robber from Indiana managed to knock over several banks, as well as a few police stations (they took automatic weapons and Kevlar vests).
https://libcom.org/files/images/history/dillinger.jpg (arrest photo)
Their leader was also busted out of prison twice, because members of his gang would show up dressed as police officers (using lewt from their police station robberies) and then start shooting once people started asking questions lol.
The biggest problem with bank robberies are getting rid of the pieces after you take them. Marked bills, huge denomination bills, unique jewelry, stuff with serial numbers, etc.
There are books and books written by the Tiblisi bank robbers (a bank robbery just before the Russian Revolution) - their major problem was they had ~20 million (in modern money terms), but they couldn't change any of the bills because they were all marked. But many of the perpetrators lived past the revolution and wrote memoirs about the crazy things they did (also Stalin was one of the planners of the train robbery, so fame by association).
something that's becoming (and already is, actually) huge in the states is card skimming. thieves put a device over the card scanner on an atm or a gas pump so your card details are stolen when you get money or fill up (this is usually complemented by a camera over the pin pad so they can get debit cards and zip codes). these skim kits are usually sold from places like russia for up to thousands of dollars. pretty interesting and a bit scary if you aren't careful.

Yeah it was unfortunate. I suspect they crushed it because either a.) it happens so much up there that they just don't give a shit anymore, or b.) the people who go about stealing these cars pay them off to they just crush the evidence. Of course the second option is just a theory, but I wouldn't put it past them. My guess is they have an army people that travel within a 2-3 hour radius of NYC, steal the cars, bring them into the city, have them chopped, dump the body of the car, and have sanitation come pick them up to be crushed to dispose of evidence.
I had a 2007 Acura RSX Type S. Which in the car world, is pretty sought after. These guys were certainly in it for the parts. To steal a car like the RSX, you need to be pretty good at what you're doing. There is a special chip in the key that makes it so it will only start if that specific key is put into the car. From my understanding, you cannot start the car by simply hot wiring it. Therefor, this guy needed to know how to disable the security system that requires the chip to start the car, and then hot wire it, which of course would require some pretty good skills. Also note, this is at least my understanding of how the security system works, as I try to recall it from what some car guys told me when it happened.
Luckily I had great insurance, and I actually ended up making out really well. Along with putting in a little extra money, I was able to get a 2013 Civic, a step up from the base model (not sure what its called). I was one of the lucky ones. Most people get screwed on things like this. It was just really inconvenient to not have a car for a few months, and lose the things that were still in the car when it was crushed, that the thieves probably wouldn't have taken (shoes, clothes, other memorable things).
Its one of those things you think will never happen to you, and then when you see your car completely gone one day you're just like, well...shit.
i took my moms credit card to pay my runescape membership once i think stealing 300 million bucks is my next small step into the underworld

What job can you think of that yields 300 million dollars in a day's work?

I think the allure of it is that you only have to do it once. One 300 million dollar heist, and you can retire and do whatever you want for the rest of your life. I'm sure there is also some appeal to the adrenaline rush feeling that you get from it.

Impressive how they managed to drill a 20 inches deep 18 inches wide hole in reinforced concrete without raising flags.
The ammount of planning that must have gone into this thing. It's kind of amazing. 300M in one day and no one got hurt, that's a win in my books.
