but probably the biggest reason women don't usually make it past open is because of the widespread sexism that is either actively promoted or passively tolerated by virtually all of the influential figures in the community. why bother to put in the effort to improve for a community that's hostile to you from the start because of something beyond your control? most people aren't that invested in a video game

EDIT: Just for final reference:
-There are physical differences. They aren't known to matter significantly for playing TF2.
-Even so, they're minority and underrepresented/seen in leagues.
-Negro leagues had a physical difference (white vs black is a pretty clear physical difference) that doesn't technically affect gameplay, still helpful/ok thing to have for the time.
-If more women end up playing TF2 in bigger and more serious leagues, the better. Maybe this league won't be needed or will generally be a clique thing or for charity events.
-This event isn't trying to make women seem like they're mentally retarded or physically handicapped compared to men, so no need to whine about it.

It's both interesting and unfortunate that the main selling point of the match is that it stars an all-female lineup on both sides of the pond. Interesting because it's unique, and unfortunate because if we read too far into it, we start a shitstorm.

I like to think that differences in reaction time (if any) are negligible because there are larger and more common factors that affect physical performance, like tiredness and practice.

the difference between reaction times of top invite players in this game (all of whom, as far as i know, identify as male) is significantly more than 20 ms so i don't see how that kind of difference is statistically significant

This is probably the saddest thread I have ever read.

There may or may not be physical/biological sex differences that affect performance in tf2, but I think it probably has more to do with the fact that women in general tend to be less competitive than men, and that most of the women who play probably have less experience with video games in general than men.

It's ignorant things like that that help prevent women from putting much effort into playing video games. It's not exactly encouraging when you're constantly told you're bad and always will be because you're female, and people constantly assume that you're fat, only play medic, etc. I joke about it too but honestly it gets old after a while. Repeatedly saying things like women are bad at games tends to make them believe that, adopt that label, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Why do so many people have this shitty attitude.

Also a lot of the players (at least on the NA team) are very new to competitive so this is a nice way for them to get some experience in a team format on a class that isn't medic. These teams were formed to play before we knew there would be a 'showmatch' between the EU and NA lady teams.
