Hey, my mic is starting to be very bad. I've got 60 bucks, and i'm willing to use all of it. What's the best value for money mic in that range? (I've got a mechanical keyboard so I don't know if a desktop mic would work, a clip on might work better). thoughts?

You have a decent amount of options @ $60.
The two most recommended for that price range will be the ModMic and the Blue Snowball though. Just depends on what you're lookin' for at this point.

Had both the snowball and the modmic. I think for gaming the mod mic is far better as it picks up very little background noise.

I own both the Snowball and ModMic - if you have a quiet keyboard and set it up carefully the Snowball sounds really good. The ModMic picks up a lot less background noise etc and is easy to use, but for the price I don't think the sound quality is up to scratch (on mine at least).

Realtek ALC898.
It's not ideal but it should work.
The ModMic 3.0 used to have problems with certain driver versions on the ALC898, but I'm not sure if that's still the case for the 4.0.
There will also be a faint white noise in the background.

Setsul is right, the Realtek chips are pretty bad.
You can get around it by buying a cheap USB sound card for $5. It'll remove all the white noise in your ModMic or any analog mic and make them much louder.

to be honest i don't really think using a usb audio card would be better than using the built-in one, some of them might be bad, but most of them are always preferable to any usb crap

every PCI soundcard I've ever used has had such awful EMI protection that my GPU just wrecks the output signal. I can only reasonably use onboard or usb.
