With a cackle and a grin, MasterNoob stepped down from his throne, forged of the finest UGC Steel and the skulls of the banned, at the head of the admin's table in Fort Center's grand hall. With the air of a man content in his misguided authority and ill-used power he strolled casually, nonchalantly towards the intruders who dared to oppose him in his own domain.

At the doors of his hall were a ragtag bunch; the admins, moderators and supporters he had cast aside. RTC and Digresser stood proud, flanking Kkaltuu as he stared down the man he once worked for. Faced with none more than an army of three, MasterNoob chortled heartily and prepared his wittiest quips.

"Looking for a last player for your 4v4 team, are you boys?" he exclaimed across the hall with self-indulgent sarcasm dripping from his words. "I'm afraid you'll have to go to TeamFortressTV for that; ask around in my global chat and I'll have you banned before you can say niggatron."

Kkaltuu rolled his eyes, unfazed by the remarks. "Awfully confident for a man whose empire burns before his eyes, aren't you MasterNoob? Your admins have abandoned you, only Tereza remains and he shall be dealt with just as easily as yourself."
MasterNoob let out another guffaw as he carved Kkaltuu's retort, word-for-word, into the stone of the hall's farthest wall, joining the hundreds of negative remarks concerning him. He looked around, as if expecting half-hearted forced applause, quickly righting himself when he remembered his moderators were not there with him.
"It is my empire that burns, is it Kkaltuu? My empire and not your competitive scene, not your 6v6 or your oh-so-precious Highlander? You know as well as I do that without the service I provide your community would wither and die like a 3am Logjam lobby, and yet you expect to intimidate me with your pathetic little Ultitrio here?"

Kkaltuu began to retort, but Digresser jumped in first with a fire in her voice. "Yes, MasterNoob, we do, as you know equally well that a service on the level of Center with more competent administration would bring your ridiculous excuse for an empire to the ground in two !reps of a Loveclop."
"And we plan to do just that," RTC added sharply with the conviction of a man scorned, turning himself back to the door they had entered through as it was opened from the outside. MasterNoob could only watch, his face paling and his jaw hanging agape, as his former staff flooded through the door, supported by countless numbers of the very same banned and insulted that he had walked over to reach his position of power.

Stared down by the enemies he had made over the years, MasterNoob's expression transformed from whimsical malevolence to one of self-protective anger, preparing for fight or flight as Tereza finally joined him from his quarters at the back of the hall. RTC, gleeful in his revenge, took great delight in the words he exclaimed to them across the room.

"It's over, Noob. Center will be replaced, just as TF2Lobby before it was and just as you will be."

TO BE CONTINUED...?

I think it's safe to say that we as a community should move away from the current TF2Center. I personally think major staff changes should be put into place rather than try to shift to a different website, though. The ammount of effort put into tf2center is huge, and to throw the (seriously impressive) functionality and infrastructure of tf2center away is crazy imo.

Honestly, just get a group of new admins to run the place from a PR standpoint, and have the technically inclined people stay doing work on the website. The "LALALA WE CAN'T HEAR YOU" vibe that I'm getting from the staff is absolutely childish and needs to change if they want their website to stay populated-- especially considering the impending MM update.

Truth is, it would take a considerable amount of time to get a service up and running that could replace tf2center. Sure, there are great pug websites, but they just aren't ready to deal with 500+ people of such varying skill levels.

Gender-bending fixed, apologies. As for the admin matter don't worry, I am aware, hence "admins, moderators and supporters"; perhaps even this isn't the best wording as you may never have been a supporter of MasterNoob per se but rather a supporter of TF2C but I think it works well enough.

Also, thank you very much for bringing the original subject of this thread to light; how does it feel to potentially have sparked a revolution?

I actually think deep down Masternoob is an alright guy, he is really passionate and dedicated and he wants to get things done. He just seems to have some poor man management skills and poor PR skills, plus he doesn't seem to take criticism well. That is why he is notoriously hard to work with. He really needs to learn from this experience, some things went wrong, a lot was his fault and he should look at how to come back. A good start would not to be sacking staff members like Marty who chose to stick with TF2C despite the mess.

Ultimately for those who think this will kill TF2Center are going to be wrong, hardly dented their numbers, when you get bored and want to play TF2 all your alternatives are inactive/empty, you'll go back to the website, TF2C are relying on this and it is true, majority of you will keep playing on it when you see no other alternative. The biggest loser here isn't TF2C or Masternoob, it's competitive TF2 that suffers as the whole community would benefit by having TF2C actively involved in the competitive community. Alas it is to be ruined by one or two individuals...which is so sad.

TF2Center was very polished, easy to use, responsive, and the auto balance/ranking system used in advanced lobbies showed a lot of promise. Unfortunately, some of the leadership there are undeserving of their positions and extremely destructive to TF2Center's future and stability and it would seem they show no desire to step down (to my knowledge). It only goes downhill from here, the source of the problem needs to be eliminated otherwise we have a system that stays broken.

If we're left in a position where the problem admins refuse to step down, our only choice would be to create another service. Right now TF2Center is unique in that it's capable of handing many players of varying skill levels with the added benefit of providing a place for new players to play.

TF2Pickup seems to be focusing on higher level 6v6 for EU players, while Pug.Me handles the NA side. Other than that, we have private 6v6 pug groups ranging from low open to invite, I assume some exist for highlander but don't know of any. None of these alternatives are ready to handle the massive influx of players/skill levels if we got rid of TF2Center, so it's looking like we would have to create a separate service to satisfy that low-mid level player side of the spectrum.

I'd love nothing more than for pugme to pick up big time. It's got a lot of potential and the owner isn't a complete thundercunt.

REM_TF2TF2pug.me is even more exclusive and won't allow people outside of prem and the top 4 teams of high.

I haven't read everything yet, but in what cases do these apply? Playing? I'd assume no, especially considering I played not too long ago. If you mean in terms of helping with the site, then that'd make sense.

Masternoob practically owns TF2C. He will never abandon his website. Thus, whoever doesnt want to use TF2C because of him (+maybe Mother Tereza), will have to live without lobbies until there is an alternative. I do not see MN getting replaced by another headadmin at all in any scenario.

REM_TF2I just want to make it clear to everyone saying this is a spurr of the moment thing fueled by the drama that I am in this for the community. I'm not doing this to enact retribution on TF2Center, I'm doing it because I want a site where people can learn competitive TF2 and integrate into the communities involved in comp TF2 e.g. ETF2L, ESEA, TFTV etc.

This is a power grab and you know it.

Vanguard you are a masterful wordsmith!

Echoing the thoughts of most of the other people here; hopefully we can have a suitable replacement to fill the niche that TF2center provides (or masternoob decides to not act like his name h3h3), i.e. a valuable stepping stone from public play to competitive play.

I understand where you're coming from, but it seems a bit extreme and destructive to our scene, especially when TF2 can use all of the competitive streaming content it can get. Will the TF2C team be announcing any plans to rectify the situation? I think there's a lot of momentum built up for the site and it'd be a shame to throw it all away and start over.

Thomas, your most recent ban is for banning everyone that tried to join a lobby you created (10+ people banned), and then closing down the lobby. Your previous ban history includes trolling, griefing, exploit abuse, !rep abuse, racism in chat, trolling with the "LOBBY CLOSED" message in chat, and closing lobbies early on not one, but two accounts.

Your ban history is literally the most extensive and varied ban history I've ever seen, and I genuinely wonder why you weren't permabanned earlier. TF2C may have flaws, but banning you was certainly not one of them.

general rule for any and all future tf2-centric competitive sites: as much of the framework as possible (if not all of it) should be open-sourced. that's the real major problem in this scenario, that by leaving a proprietary site with terrible staff, you're also leaving all the major functionality within it, because those awful admins happen to be the ones that hold all the code together

If you guys are seriously going to put in effor to make a new website, here are some things that you need to consider:

  • The one way I see this new site taking off is by offering matchmaking from the beginning for 6s. This is because without this, you will pretty much offer an inferior service, and hence, there's no reason to use it (other than admins being better). Also keep in mind that Valve is going to release matchmaking in a few months, so your matchmaking needs to be better than theirs. Anyway, you now need someone who is good at algorithms, specially related to ELO. Luckily, you have tf2 player rankings to go off by, and even more nice, is that they offer API calls for a group of 12 players. However, I have personally no idea on how many API calls they can serve within a second, and this is critcal because people won't generally like waiting for more than 3 minutes for a proper match. You also have to consider the fact that people will keep joining and leaving, and that the player pool at any given time will be pretty small. Combining all of this, you have a very short time to determine a balanced game. So I would first suggest trying to get a balanced match, with help from TF2 Player rankings, within around 3 minutes.
  • Then, you wil have to decide on the design on the new site. What frameworks are you going to use? Are you providing an API? Your framework needs to be able to react with mumble and tf2 servers. Speaking of servers, it would be great to give free servers using the ones on na.serveme.tf, and they also have an API that you can use to reserve and end reservation once a match is over. Also, you would need a forum to discuss things about the site with everyone else. You can just get a steam group in the beginning, but you will eventually have to make this. Next, you should really thing about getting a nice logs page. Not like logs.tf, but more like dotabuff for TF2 using data from logs.tf. This would be another reason for people to start using your website at launch just to see their stats no matter where they choose to play.
  • Finally, once you are finished with making the product you would need to keep a PR team that not only does moderation and public announcements, but also gives the developers feedback on what the community wants. Luckily, you don't need marketing team because word of mouth and a post on tf.tv can go a long way in getting a good playerbase.

I don't really have time to code outside of work, but I could definitely help with designing the parts (for anything -- backend stuff or frontend UI).

If you guys are seriously going to put in effor to make a new website, here are some things that you need to consider:

[list]

Luckily, you have tf2 player rankings to go off by, and even more nice, is that they offer API calls for a group of 12 players. However, I have personally no idea on how many API calls they can serve within a second, and this is critcal because people won't generally like waiting for more than 3 minutes for a proper match. You also have to consider the fact that people will keep joining and leaving, and that the player pool at any given time will be pretty small. Combining all of this, you have a very short time to determine a balanced game. So I would first suggest trying to get a balanced match, with help from TF2 Player rankings, within around 3 minutes.
[*] Then, you wil have to decide on the design on the new site.
[*] Finally, once you are finished with making the product you would need to keep a PR team that not only does moderation and public announcements, but also gives the developers feedback on what the community wants. Luckily, you don't need marketing team because word of mouth and a post on tf.tv can go a long way in getting a good playerbase.

I don't really have time to code outside of work, but I could definitely help with designing the parts (for anything -- backend stuff or frontend UI).
