I had the album playing on the background today a couple of times while I was working on some stuff, wasnt paying much attention, it sounded really cool, great production like you're used to from dre, but as I heard someone say and I agree totally, it's missing those anthems that are still played on full volume almost 20 years later like Still DRE, Next Episode, Forgot About Dre, Nuthin But A G Thang, Lets Ride, etc...

It's good. Not as good as his previous two releases, but still a quality album. I'm curious to see how the album plays out as a soundtrack in the movie.

I'm shocked to see opinions so mixed, I love it, and I think it only gets better with time. Chronic 2001 faced similar mixed reactions when it dropped, mostly because it strayed away from the original sound of the Chronic. Dre never rehashes the same formula, and he proved that he's continuing to expand his sound. Brought two great Snoop verses and a great Em verse as well, something I'd never expect in 2015. Overall I think this could be AOTY, this could go down as something special.

I thought it was just titled that way and it's not an actual soundtrack to the movie? In any case, I've been really enjoying the album and it has been growing on me after every listen. I know some people are expecting a successor to 2001, but times have changed, Dre's grown up, and it feels like a really solid mature album and a proper send off for his final album. I think it was an NPR article that I read saying how Dr. Dre likes to use his albums as a platform to expose audiences to new, up-and-coming talent (a la Snoop Dogg with The Chronic and Eminem with 2001) and I think he's hit his mark again with Compton. It's been real fun listening to these rappers I haven't heard of before and I'll definitely be checking their music out.

WTF why r u saying Drake? I love drake but i understand these are two very different people. Dre is the person you want producing your shit. I mean we all know he is behind so many artists its amazing. The fact that he can also rap is pretty impresive. Look at Dj Khaled and Dj mustard all those idoits cant rap for shit. The fact that his talent is so widespread is quite amazing. Its like a formula one racer who is great at building fasts cars and racing.

west coast fucking went in on this album. Xzibit, snoop, cube, game sounded the best that they have in years (unless you are a fan of game's shit post documentary ???).

Here is the thing, he doesn't usually write his raps so much as he supervises. He will have multiple write for him, and make changes as he sees fit to specific parts. They aren't ghostwritten, most of the time the people who write for him are actually listed on the song as writers or co-producers. Though I say that, he can actually rap on his pretty well, I'm pretty sure neither Khaled or Mustard ever rap (mostly because Khaled is a Pokemon).
