one time my friend was over and he was playing engineer on a 2fort server, creating the classic sentry nest in the intel room. for an hour straight he bragged to me about how he had over a 100 points. I didn't break it to him that he was playing against bots.

My newly met friend on high school says:
a. TF2 sucks because specifically he says its a class based shooter.
b. TF2 is the game that new Steam users always downloads first and playing it because he/she doesnt have money.

It used to be the opposite.. some of us installed Steam because we had TF2, and not the other way around.

Have a friend who used to play "a lot" of TF2. In fact, he's the guy who originally got me into it. I used to joke about the ridiculous number of hours he had in the game.

All 380 of them.

Sometimes he still comes to me and quips about my 3.7k hours, which hilariously I now know isn't even close to being a lot.

The same guy, incidentally, owns a vintage Backburner that he named when he was like 14 called "The epic item", capitalized exactly like that.

I recently got a roommate that whenver I play TF2, will yell out MEDIC! in Heavy's voice (his introduction to me playing TF2 was me playing Heavy for an HL community team). He also says "shut up jyggy" because that was my team's Sniper and that was half of what I'd tell him.

He likes watching gmod TF2 videos.

Slightly off-topic, this thread makes me realise how boring my parents are :(

the one thing that got me is I could hang out in the same mumble every day and chill with dudes from my team or that I used to play with and my mom was convinced that "they're not your real friends, you have to go out to meet new friends" about people I've known for more than a year

plus I live in a completely empty suburb and have no way to "go out and meet new friends" :<

I've been a basketball addict since I was young, a great artist, helped build houses and fix cars. But every time I load up a game of TF2 my mom screams "YOU'RE WASTING YOUR LIFE" sheesh mom give a guy a break.

I have ungodly hours in this game and I got more than a few others into it but I haven't had any real misconceptions besides the "how do you aim down sights" comment

When coworkers ask what video games I play and I say TF2 they are always surprised that people still play. They're like "Holy crap that game is old I remember that from the orange box never really got into it."

A lot of them are console gamers that buy every big budget new release, go through the game, and then trade it back in to gamestop.

When I went to Infoshow LAN, my colleagues asked why I was going to Lithuania and I said a Video Gaming event. They seemed to be under the impression I was playing a big tournament with huge amounts of money up for grabs. When Kraftaz gave me that £20 I have to say I felt pretty good...

Also from a couple of weeks ago I cancelled attending a non-important work event in the evening to play the HL Nations Cup game vs Belgium. When asked why, to toy with the Manager, I said "England are playing Belgium in TF2", I do find it amusing to gauge people's reaction to something they don't understand.

When I was playing beer pong at parties when I was still in shool my friends would always call the team I was in "Team Fortress".

My boyfriend looked at me like I was crazy when I told him my 1,800~ hours was not a lot of time spent on the game. He can't believe some people have thousands upon thousands of hours.

Also my friend laughed at me when I told her I was watching competitive TF2 [this was during i52] and asked if people really played it. Then again, she's streaming League most of the time.

Not a misconception, but my sister is one of those people that just explodes with emotions for no particular reason. Even though we only came 4th at i49 (and i52 heh), she was in hospital and looked up the stats of the games (for i49) and was like "I saw you did the most damage and got a lot of kills". lol daww

Since a lot of people are talking about parents, my dad plays this game, he has mastered every class besides scout and spy. for mvm that is. he has over 1000 hours of mvm, he isnt a big fan of people versus people but he can has pub heavy, engy, solly, and demo mastered, I tried to get him to play on the shitty 6's team I had but he was to busy with other stuff, too bad he could have been good fighting the people

i really wanna see multiple dad teams face off so we can find out who is genetically the strongest tf2 player
