My dad watches my play sometimes and asks about 6's and HL. When he sees that people actually protect the Medic he asks me why people don't do that in pubs. A separate time I explained why Scout was the best class in 6's now, which a big part was the Demo nerf. He asked why Demo got nerfed and I said because people in pubs complained. His follow up question was "Why don't Heavies, Soldiers and Pyros get nerfed as well?"

He asks when I have scrims and the such and always wants me to come play against bots with him

I also spent 3 hours teaching him how to rocket jump the other day which was pretty fun.

I'm going on holiday soon so my mom goes "You might actually meet some real people!"

he still has this notion that every "character" in the game is like an active AI walking around regardless of whether you're playing the game or not. it sounds like a conspiracy.

He is, he used to play CS and TFC back before steam was created in the late 90's. Got me introduced into games just after steam came out. He stopped playing for a while and I got him back into them a year or so ago.

He was watching the SoCal LAN stream and messaging me about what they were talking about while I was playing which was cool

they know about and play esea pugs and matches and always ask me if im invite yet or not

this group of weebs at my school who play league think that the entirety of competitive tf2 is playing heavy on 2fort with a pocket medic
another kid thinks hes hot shit because hes slightly better than all of the other league kids (after playing every day after school I think he's plat 1 or something)
this elitist group of kids who play csgo seem to think that tf2 is just a cartoony version of cs with hats and furries, but when I asked what their ranks were they told me they were all silver 3-4
my mom thinks tf2 is like call of duty because it's an fps and my dad think it's a strategic military simulator or something lmao

Oh god that Cs point reminds me of that ESEA thread where some TF2 player called out lpkane and then the cs nerds all circlejerked. The best part though is that most of those guys are in reality really shit at CS:GO.

Whenever I have to turn down hanging out with my dad because of scrims, he berates me and says things like:
"Too bad you're busy hanging out with your internet friends rather than your REAL friends."
"Have fun staying up all night, getting hyped up on bawls (an energy drink) and playing CoD."
"How's that hat simulator of yours going?"

My younger sisters like watching me play in my matches, but if they're watching a stream they get upset when the cameraman doesn't keep the focus on me. When they're messing around in pubs they like to show me how good they are and say things like "Ohhhh, owned" or "MEATSHOT!!!" because they think it's funny.

I can't find Bawls anymore in saskatchewan. It was the only energy drink i loved, and nothing tastes as good :(

When I moved into my suite, I was replacing my first roommate's old roommate (Kyle) who dropped out to become a cop. My roommate, his friends, Kyle and I went out for dinner at Applebees one time and we started talking about video games. Kyle was the only person at the table besides me who had put any sort of time into TF2. He started and ended our TF2 conversation like this:

"That feel when you're playing soldier and you rocket jump onto the point and kill two people and then yourself"

He's still the only person I've talked to in real life who understood TF2 on some level.

Otherwise, if I'm taking time off/it's Friday, sometimes my mom will ask me why I'm not scrimming when I'm home.

he's also the only other gamer in our family, plays dota and cs, and thinks tf2 is really easy because he can play phlog pyro on a valve 2fort server

he also bought a couple tf2 figurines and got upset when he found out he couldn't sell the hats for money because he didn't have premium

At school today someone at my table was trying to explain to my friend that TF2 is "kind of like CS:GO" and that he was trying to shoot at peoples feet so his bullets would go into his chest, then he said he hates the game and was getting pissed. He is also a Silver 4 on CS:GO. Other than that I remember one time saying "This game TF2 is kind of like CoD but cartoony."

So one day I was just casually talking to some of my friends (all 3 of them play League of Legends) and they never knew about competitive tf2.

They asked me friendly questions about 6s and HL and 4s and I tried to get them to be somewhat interested by showing some "Frag Clips of the Day" and other various competitive highlights. Then the inevitable question comes up- "Brandon what division do you play in?"

I say that I play silver highlander as sniper (scout if need be) and I made it to consolation finals with my iron 6s screw-around team as soldier/scout a season or two ago, and I currently play 4s in silver as random classes.

They all proceed to mock me and say things like "WOW you have 4k hours of that game and you haven't played anything above SILVER??? YOU MUST BE TRASH!!!" I wasn't prepared for this at all so I didn't have anything to say in my defense. Long story short I became the laughing stock of that Skype call. Guess I had that coming.

I cried myself to sleep that night.

^on that note don't you guys think it kinda sucks that after practicing for thousands of hours, dragging your way through a couple seasons in UGC, and playing several seasons of open all you get to say is that you are now capable of playing in IM? You're in the top 0.01 percent of the tf2 playerbase and all you get to say is that you're "intermediate" which is way too close to the word "average".

It totally ruins everyone's game with chicks too! What if things were going well with you and some chick and you tell her you cant go out of Wednesday night becuase you have a match. You spill the beans about your video game career. She asks you about how many hours you've spent playing and you look like some genetically inferior betamale that isn't any better than average after practicing for 4000 hours.

Pretty much. About 1k of my 4k hours was actually spent in a competitive setting. I play on a crappy laptop too ;__;

People at my school have seen me watching fragvids on my phone and are convinced that I'm just playing some mobile game.

I had 2 TF2 instances with my wife. The first was when she asked me what I do in the game. I explained what a roamer's job is about and shooting rockets at feet. Later that night, she bitched at me for not cleaning some small things around the house and leaving it for her to do. I told her I roam the house looking for big messes and can't get the small ones. Wasn't received well.

My wife comes down into my man cave to do wash and cat stuff when I am playing. One night at dinner I asked her what she hears and thinks is going on when I am playing and talking. She said "I hear a lot of talk about "rape" and "scouts being raped".

One time I was watching a match on the bus and somebody asked me what game I was playing lol
