Thats not fucking pencil jumping, pencil jumping isnt just jumping without crouching thats something else completely...
Also i ctap and i only press crouch again if i need to do a walljump, theres no reason to hold crouch lol

If you don't plan on doing another jump, it's better because you get screwed over less by scouts on your bomb.
You take less knockback when uncrouched.

kaidusI always thought pencil jumping was when you do a really shit jump with very little forward momentum and no strafing.
TommyOne of my friends penciljumps and it is very hard to airshot. I dont think pencilumping and jump mapping is mutually exclusive because he is better than most at jump maps.
Wait if it's just a really simple up and down jump why is it hard to hit? Or am I imagining the wrong thing.

cinderNvm, my bad. Confused penciljumping with non-crouch jumping. This is what I meant:Show Content
Don't you look like that even when crouching? I thought it only shows your model in crouch animation when you do something like a speedshot or a ramp slide jump. IIRC/AFAIK when you don't crouch your legs stay together and don't move.
(I just skimmed through the replies so maybe someone already said this)

anyone else a fan of the "pubber strafe" where you go to one side while holding w? for unpredictability
the uncontested best way to put someone on tilt is to hold w in midair in spire mge

its genuinely upsetting when someone does that and thinks that normal strafing is worse and u cant call them dum because you keep missing airshots on him

ive started w-strafing in actual games because it works so well on spire
you still have the same mid-air control, it just takes some getting used to

W strafing is really good for bombing corners and you just strafe around whatever you are shooting while constantly looking at it
Pencil jumping doesn't matter to me I find them just as easy/difficult to hit
People already went over the pros and cons of crouch/uncrouched jumping

I used to do that sometimes when I was newer to mge, but I quickly found out that a lot of the people who are good at mge go by unaffected by the strat at all. I myself also don't have any problems airshotting w strafers, and I'm not even that good at MGE.
Also, are you serious about the mid-air control thing? Either I and every jumper ever have been missing out on something HUGE, or its actually retarded.
The only legitimate success I've found with strafing is by mimicking Platinum's 'fishtailing'. (https://youtu.be/5pv2roU7sR0?t=1m8s). People try to look for predictable patterns in your strafing, and lots of players (even the REALLY good ones) have problems when they can't find anything predictable in your strafing.
Jump patterns/strafing are kind of like choosing a mousepad; the ideal one varies from person to person, and there is no definite answer because some people like a certain speed/smoothness, and for the most part people rely on what they feel is best.
I've found my success by 'fishtailing' unpredictably, and you might find yours by 'penciljumping' or w strafing or whatever the hell you think is good.

Tapping s while in midair is way better than using w for unpredictability although w is useful in other ways.
You can also use a d in midair without using your mouse to strafe to make your movement look weird as fuck.

You know what really throws people off in MGE? S strafing.
Kinda hard to hit your rockets though…
Kinda hard to hit your rockets though…
Wait, some people still think crouching makes you strafe better?
W strafing only works against those people who prefire rockets because they mge a lot and are used to certain jmps but in reality have dog shit dm. It also "works" because, let's face it, most people won't reliably hit airshots no matter how you strafe, so people are like "omg lol he can't hit me at all when I hold w lololol new meta" when the person would be missing them anyway. And no you definitely don't have the same air control.
Tapping s is a good way to cut a jump short. It's also a good way to ensure you eat a direct right as you land.
If you really want to throw people off, try actually dodging their rockets in mid air instead of trying random strafe patterns like a idiot and leaving it up to chance. Crazy, I know.
If you're really bent on some fancy technique so you can be different, practice reversing your strafes. Instead of moving your mouse left when holding w, move your mouse right. Now you can move in 4 directions instead of just 2.

DamnEasy
You get that animation when you do a skip jump
To be more precise, you get it when you jump crouched while you're on the ground (like the static jumps pockets do on rollouts)
ofc skipjumping is basically doing that, with some additions
