Whatever lights I play TF2 on my parents will berate me on wasting time on video games and tell me to write essays.

Playing in darkness and looking at a bright screen is straining for eyes. Though I wouldn't say what I do is any better for your health, but for a different reason.
I draw, so I like having lots of light around me. Often when I play, I will have 2-3 lights on at a time in my room to balance out the light between the ambient light and my monitor (My monitor isn't very bright because it bothers my eyes. My ambient lights aren't very bright on their own.)
The reason though this is probably bad anyway, is because with lots of light around me, it messes with my melatonin production probably more than just starting at a phone because there's so much light. More recently, when it starts to get late, I turn off a light or two, gradually, until I turn off my computer and sleep.

i have as many lights on as possible. standing lamp with 6 bulbs, and ceiling light with 3 bulbs. white light only. Room has to be the sun.
off. saves light and my screen's brightness is low.
my parents turn on the lights in my room even when the sun is shining right into my room
I always get pissed at lans (gxl for one) when they turn the lights off. Just leave that shit on, most people prefer a lighter setting.

Man Bledsoe really took being benched and cut/traded by multiple teams pretty poorly.
i keep my lights off because my door is to my back and i use closed ear headphones and listen to shit really loudly, when someone opens my door the light from the hallway comes into my view and i know someones at my door
Lights on and aimed at my yellow green wall with bug spray on it so the bugs go there to die instead of on me to dine
lights on preferred, otherwise the contrast on my monitor gets weird.
lights on always. i read that having them on is bad for you, but it hurts more to keep them off than on, so idk
Usually off, but after seeing so many of you saying it fucks your eyes I think I'll start having them on.
the real question here is, do you have curtains to block out the sun?
I like having the light on but sometimes ill forget to turn them on and my room will get real dark real quick.
off if possible, i love the dark in general, i feel very at peace when i'm alone in the dark
Lights on, if I turn my lights off every game becomes a horror game for me.
I keep my window right in front of my computer open

I wanna have them off but my mom says that I'll get depressed if I have them off.
I guess she's just looking out for me :p

Let me drop some knowledge in this thread to erase myths. My own parents told me when I was younger about playing video games with the lights off and how it is bad. My parents and yours are wrong again.
I manage one of the top rated Ophthalmology (eyes) institutes in the county. Seeing this thread, I asked 2 of our top doctors about playing video games with lights on or off. They both assured me, it is no negative effect at all on your eye sight in any way if with lights are on or off.
Have fun in the dark gamers.

So you can just stare at the sun through a window and be fine? Some of it is blocked, not all of it

I'd love to believe that but, let's just say I'm a tiny bit skeptical
