So the very first glimpse is just gonna be two random popular streamers? I get that the beta's gonna be released almost right after that, but it still seems weird.

I want it to be good, and I'm definitely going to play the beta.
But god damn has blizzard's released design choices made me feel anything but confident that it will.

overwatch stream live
Something the streamers kept emphasizing was how a large part of strategy is picking classes/heroes/whatever to hard counter your opponents.
While this is intuitive, it seems to make gameplay run like a rock paper scissors simulator.

The first look was from multi-game streamers and hardly a display of skill. The true test will be seeing what weighs more important: character ability or player skill, once talented FPS players get a hold of it. A balance between class ability and player skill is good. A tilt in skill's favor is more good. A tilt in hero ability is less good, but will still be interesting seeing how teams use the heroes like chess pieces.
That is the key no matter where the brunt of a heroes effectiveness lies. It really does seem that heroes can be swapped fluidly and repeatedly to force the meta. This is in complete contrast to TF2 and is a GOOD thing. Even when they were all playing the same hero, there didn't appear to be a crippling effect on the round, in fact it seemed to hurt the team by having a less dynamic makeup. If this equates to no class limits and a meta in which you really have unlimted freedom to create team builds, you will have infinite possibilities for team success when factoring in player skill.
I'm sure certain builds will end up being most powerful, but at least for now it seems there is always another hero you COULD play to throw a wrench that the opposing team's build. That is fantastic, and should player skill be as or near important to the game as in the major compeititve FPS titles, Overwatch will likely appeal to us all.

with how easy zaryas ultimate is to land and the crazy long duration, I can't see her not being in every team oriented composition.

Zarya, Pharah, Mercy defnitely seem like a core three of any team.
Zarya has a crazy stupid ult, various damage resistances
Pharah has super high mobility coupled with really good damage output
Mercy medic with teammate revive ult so a no brainer

Really not keen on the "5 KILLSTREAK!" "4 PLAYER MULTIKILL" notifications taking up the centre of the screen. Game looks chaotic enough without them.
Seems like a fun game that won't sate my need to click on gamers.

Indeed. But time will tell. If something like that can't be overcome then OW has a problem, but i'd imagine that is one of the things Blizzard is looking for when they launch beta.

watching some guy's rebroadcast, and it looks like you can do same things on tf2center pretty much, that's how it feels in terms of teamplay right now
and I just hate that streamer being excited over everything with no big reason "wow there's counter for everything" umm okay, that's just a necessity to any game "wow I'm doing so much with medic behind me" ohh must be good I suppose...

If anyone cares, beta will start on 27th for EU as well now :)
UPDATE (October 23, 2015): We were able to complete setup and testing of our beta servers for Europe sooner than anticipated. As a result, we're happy to report that we will be launching the Overwatch Closed Beta in both the Americas and Europe gameplay regions on October 27

I'm not familiar with Blizzard betas; is there any chance of actually getting into the beta on 27th without being a youtube or twitch millionaire?

Yes, but it will be slim. They said only few people will be invited!
But still, since Overwatch will have a built-in matchmaking system from the beginning (looking at you, Valve) Blizzard needs more than a few "celebrities" to play this game at all times during the day... :)

zeSIMON from the beginning (looking at you, Valve)
You can't complain tf2 didn't have matchmaking when it came out (in 2007) in an age when MM wasn't really a thing. I'd rather complain how long took valve to take tf2comp seriously.
