Auraforgot to mention that when payload goes to overtime, players on defence and offence switch d.iva, which in tf2 would equal to 6v6 tomislav heavy. And this overtime can go on for like 2 minutes or more until either side finally loses.

OK so is overwatch actually any good? Is it worth me pre-ordering and do they give out beta keys to people who pre-order? I haven't seen much of the game so I don't know if its worth me buying now or not. Also will it actually kill TF2 I have noticed a lot of top tf2 players are gonna move to it. I think Tek even said at lan that he's going to overwatch now along with many others. I feel like i'm not done with tf2 yet like I still have 2 more seasons in me but I don't want all the top players moving to OW yet so I can still have solid competition for the next few seasons.

As a pub game on its own its very fun and has the potential to be a very solid esport that could be what TF2 wasnt.
Notice the world potential. If you've been watching any of the early tournaments it is currently a TOTAL clusterfuck. There's no way to tell who is killing who, what the state of the objective is, and who is doing well.
There's also a ton of visual clutter and many of the basic settings needed for good FPS competition like more fine-tuned sensitivity and graphical settings are pretty much absent.
Overall, the game is very fun as it stands with lots of potential to be a very good esport title.
It needs a lot of work though and it really depends on if Blizzard is going to pull their heads out of their collective asses or if they'll essentially abort another potential esport title from the get-go.
Edit:
Also I'll go ahead and say if you're looking for that super high skill ceiling mechanically based class shooter like TF2, OW is not that game. It will never be like TF2 outside of the classes and their similarity to TF2 design points.
The quake-like movement and aiming components are simply not there. There are OW unique mechanics that can be learned but in terms of the pure level of mechanical skill needed it is very very dumbed down.
This will please or displease a lot of people but it's simply the truth. Games are made to appeal to the widest audience possible and it's likely that a true class based shooter will likely never exist as an esports title due to the complexity needed.

Pretty much this, the game has POTENTIAL to be good at what it is trying to do but it will never be a replacement for all the aspects that draw people to tf2, which is why I don't see OW as being the "tf2 killer" people think it will be.

It made me laugh when the casters were talking about the dilemma of choosing between First Person and Free Cam. I don't think there's a situation where first person isn't the best choice 95% of the time. It doesn't help either that the overlay is horrible either and needs to be simplified.

"pure mechanical skill", aka hand-eye coordination and reflexes are arguably the videogaming skills least dependant on your higher cognitive functions, they're literally the "dumbest" part of gaming. You can have fantastic reflexes and be dim as a glow worm's armpit. So if a game focuses less on aim and more on decision making (which I'm not saying tf2 doesn't), it's technically the "less dumb" game.

The problem with your logic there is the assumption that less mechanical skill = more decision making. Making a game easier mechanically doesn't make it the smarter game, take CSGO for example. Maybe you are countering his phrasing but I think it was obvious he wasn't referring to "dumbed down" as a less cerebral type of play, you are just arguing semantics at that point. He just meant that the mechanics have less depth to them

Huh no I was only arguing the general practice of calling a game "dumbed down" on the basis of DM mechanics. I'm not saying Overwatch involves more or less decision making than tf2. From what I see, I wouldn't even agree on the mechanics front. But I'm completely unqualified to make any statement about any of that because I've never played the game.

On the contrary, on long overtime plays (which seems to be a trademark of this game) the third person cam helps make sense of the action. Blizzard's spectator system seems terribly buggy so far but at least with player names you can see who's doing what. There's usually so many deaths that first person can be a lot of switching around and losing what action is actually happening. Fights can be a bit more chaotic than TF2 and at those points watching a single person's cam rarely does that single player or the fight justice.

It's sad to watch Dahang play reinhardt.
Like real sad (not implying he sucks at rein)
christ that hero is braindead
Also weird that we have people saying that casualizing the FPS aspect in a first person shooter is somehow ever a good thing even if there are positives
"pure mechanical skill", aka hand-eye coordination and reflexes are arguably the videogaming skills least dependant on your higher cognitive functions, they're literally the "dumbest" part of gaming
It's hella fucking irrelevant because very good or THE BEST players of any game have both to some degree, but it's not like they're mechanical gods and have the decision making skills of some retard pub and in many cases mechanical skill is actually AIDED by having insane knowledge of a game. Be reasonable here...making mechanical skill less important literally benefits nobody.
I wouldn't even agree on the mechanics front. But I'm completely unqualified to make any statement about any of that because I've never played the game.
For example airshotting a flying pharah or mercy is as easy as airshotting a base jumper solly the airspeeds are extremely close...and that is one of the most mechanically intensive things you can do in OW. Genji/Tracer aren't that hard if you aren't braindead.

I'm glad we have a useless semantics argument over a simple phrase that everyone knows the meaning to which wasn't in any way incorrect.

I find it amusing that they picked up top TF2 players. Who's to say that they are going to succeed? It could be the Dota or Wow players that are kicking everyone's ass. The game seems more about strategy and use of ults than pure aim-based DM.
Also with ults that do wallhacks and aimbot, and with all the crazy chaos it might be pretty hard to police cheaters.
I personally still wouldn't mind trying OW, but I don't anticipate it being my next "big game."

It's about securing a position within the scene at a low price.
These players likely could not ask for much out of their contracts.
Classic esports goldrush mentality.

Dirtybomb was filled with transitionals from other dead fps games who were looking for a game to latch onto.
ALL of the DB players will switch over if they get the chance.
Somehow most of pkd got in but kudochop's team didn't and ALL of hubris got beta. I think FishStix had something to do with it since he was also slobbing on that game's knob at the time with front page twitch deals for extremely small and minor DB tournaments.
I think TF2's over representation has something to do with the fact that more flags were given out to it's specific community than others. For a very good reason maybe

also why does that scare you @cirlo, like 70% of the game is tf2

Why? Its people who're used to custom huds, custom maps and a clean interface. It was a minor war to even have a FoV slider added. Unless Blizz pulls a 180* and open up to suggestions, the game will be dead in the water within a year. An example would be HotS, a game I've heard nobody badmouth, yet nobody bothers playing it either. They're just not very good at capitalizing on hype.
First month every Overwatch streamer was in the same game. It was Twitch All-Star matches every single time. Then the keys were given out randomly, and from my experience, to people who never touched a Blizzard game over the people who're ready to commit their eSports career to it. Talk about shooting your own leg off.
I've honestly tried my best to understand the team fights, but each hero has 4-5 graphic effects each. Team fights are a mess and the spectator HUD itself covers both ammo and HP lol. Its gonna take quite the gimmicky player for a person to stay interested in that game to the extend of being the new TF2 to them, I think.
