TF2Scrims is a project I've had in mind over the weekend and I feel like trying it out. Before I begin, keep in mind I'm in school, so don't expect this to be done soon. So keep this in the back of your head as a potential "oh that's pretty cool"-thing.
I want to make a website that simplifies scrimming for teams. Scrims.me and scrim.tf seem to have a lot of planning features, I'd rather go real-time like TF2Center. I want TF2Scrims to rely a lot on community feedback, that's why I announced it early so I can share ideas openly and make adjustments dynamically.
Little bit about me:
My name is Danian, I live in Switzerland. About 10 months ago I wanted to make a competitive league, massively underestimated the work and gave up, leaving the community with bad reputation. I've since then looked into web development and plan on doing it for a living when I'm out of school. I've worked on projects like http://arctekservers.com and http://csgocrush.com, i believe that I am capable of putting out something decent in my free time.
Since its starting to feel like a job application, I'll end it here and put some links for you to look at:

how will it be better than http://scrim.me/? how do you plan on overcoming the main challenge of drawing users to your site over alternatives like the aforementioned site and irc?

could be a great time to put money/effort into something like this, with MM you will see a shit ton more 'teams' .. I think.
Though my question is this, in other games with 'matchmaking' do teams still try to scrim or just queue up together and treat them as scrims. (if there is a good ladder system involved)

higher level teams or even semi-serious teams will still look for scrims outside of matchmaking as it's still a much better representation of an actual match environment

Well in CSGO for example, ESEA and CEVO have done this as well. I'm guessing Valve will implement some sort of cooldown punishment like in csgo, so scrimming on external servers may become a thing(?)

it would be nice if there was something like this integrated into the etf2l website, I can see people using that if it's advertised well and has a nice kickstart
ESEA has a system in place which would (I think) work well for lower level teams but currently no one uses it
As for a website specifically for finding scrims, I think it would be difficult to promote

After taking a quick look at scrim.me, I see that it's more about planning a scrim than actually playing it, I'm trying to create a system that speeds up the setup process and gets you playing within a few minutes of finding a matching team. This, of course, requires a lot of online users and a lot of user variety. It's all still in a planning phase, but ill keep everyone updated.

Is it going to bd rcon based a la TF2Center or will servers be provided, if so how will you get these servers?

Both, we'll host servers for VIP members. Maybe also for important matches like betting and such.

Along with scrim.me there's also http://scrim.tf
IMO, you're wasting your time making a whole other scrim website. I thought a site like scrim.me or scrim.tf would be a great idea when I was a UGC captain and even planned out what it might look like--but if you see how little either of the scrim sites that do exist have taken off you'll see that people haven't been drawn to these new systems. Your idea of auto connecting to servers is good but it's not like that is hard--you're just going to over complicate the process.
It's finding scrims that can be a PITA and tf2 captains still haven't formulated a solid system to do so other than word of mouth.

What happened to irc? Do teams just add each other and just schedule scrims?

I'm not sure about open, but pretty much all the IM/Invite teams just add each other to schedule scrims in advance

Vibhavp (one of our devs for tf2stadium) pointed me toward this thread. For anyone with a short term memory (and also people that aren't huge fucking nerds), I want to make a reminder that Data is the guy that tried doing the eSource site and failed colossally. Essentially, he announced the project way too early, asked for programmers to work on the project, and straight up quit when people wouldn't code his site for him.
This guy doesn't know how to code.
There is a respected community member (with a portfolio of successful sites) working on a site with similar functionality, and I seriously recommend waiting for him/her to announce his/her site.
DataThis basically means I am now all by myself with no coding skills... So unless we find a warm hearted person out there willing to co-own & code eSource for free... it's over.

I am indeed sorry for the person I used to be. I since then learned web development, and I'm planning to study for a bachelor in Web Development next year. Also didnt mean to insult Kevin, I just thought it was, as you said, rude to bring it back up when I'm trying to start over.
Some projects:

I know a simple apology won't make up for some of the things I've said back then, but I'd really like to let this be water under the bridge and move on.
To update the project a bit, here's my coggle of ideas and such for TF2Scrims, available for anyone to view (and hopefully not edit e.e) https://coggle.it/diagram/VmVCUVbj8iYkIB-O

This is the most basic of sites that you'd typically see in some kind of programming class or tutorial series. Also, it didn't do anything when I tried the one function it has.
If you're taking this as an insult, it means (to me at least) that nothing has changed with you. I'm not intending to harass you or anything, but when your projects involve the tf2 community, I'm not going to sit idly by when I see a project that is most likely going to fail. I don't want to see my friends put time/ effort into creating/ trying out this site if it's not going to ever get to a finished state.

KevinIsPwn, not defending anyone here , but if u are so sure its gonna flop just wait for it to flop so u can make data eat his words
Data if u make it and its awesome make KevinIsPwn eat his words (more motivation)
Basicly stop making 40 line posts and let me see the other comments
On another note , seems like a good idea , would like to see other screenshots and a more indepth list of features ,saying how its gonna work, diferences between other already existing team based scrimming websites etc..

If you're taking this as an insult, it means (to me at least) that nothing has changed with you. I'm not intending to harass you or anything, but when your projects involve the tf2 community, I'm not going to sit idly by when I see a project that is most likely going to fail. I don't want to see my friends put time/ effort into creating/ trying out this site if it's not going to ever get to a finished state.[/quote]

tf2stadium is looking and working so fucking good for its short development cycle, from my experiences with the alpha testing.
Don't get why Kevin is getting shit for calling facts out.
