With matchmaking visible on the horizon, the issue of item unlocks is becoming a huge one. For me, the biggest issue is the varying power levels between unlocks. Some are just too gimmicky to see any real use (ie. Fan of War), while others are so powerful that running anything other than it and you could be argued to be at a disadvantage if the other team runs it (Crit-A-Cola, Vita-Saw, Disciplinary Action).
I thought it would be cool to see if people had some ideas for changing items they think could be problematic, I'll start with one.
Darwin's Danger Shield
It's not that this unlock is necessarily game breaking, it just feels like poor design. The 15% bullet immunity combined with the extra health bonus makes this unlock absurd, as enemy snipers will be unable to kill you with either a fully charged bodyshot, or a fast scope headshot.
I believe I know the rational behind creating this. It helps newer players to practice their aim without having to worry about better snipers instantly blowing their head off, letting them have some advantage over the more skilled players. In reality, all it does is slow down gameplay, make the opposing sniper feel they were robbed of a kill and the new player gets to enjoy the walk back to resupply each time they are headshot.
The downside of explosive damage is not too relevant to snipers, as they generally will either die to enemy spys or opposing snipers anyway, and besides, if you are caught close quarters with a soldier or demoman you are likely dead regardless of the debuff.
Honestly I am not sure how to change this item without making it unplayable. Maybe adding the tag No Immunity from Headshots would make it a little more fair.

Just give the DDS increased critical damage received. Still tanks a full charge bodyshot, won't tank an uncharged headshot.
Would also like to see a nerf to the cozy camper since it is the best sniper secondary in 6s since hitscan spam won't stop you from getting a pick.

Cozy camper has gone through like 5 different mechanics changes and this is the first one that is actually useable. I can understand thinking it's too good as it is right now, but the solution is not to remove the view steady. That mechanic is the only thing that makes it different than any other secondary. You can remove the health benefit but that doesn't fix what you see as the problem so there isn't any point.

Thats why the post says 'was' not 'is'. June was saying the shields aren't that useful anymore, but before they were too strong. I also agree, the targe really doesn't feel worth it anymore especially with afterburn immunity gone.
I think the shields should get a bonus to self propulsion from explosions. So you could pipe jump farther with them, giving them some increased mobility.

Vita-Saw should really become a weapon that is linked with the Medigun, keep -10 health but make it so that you can use Vita Saw alongside with an Uber/Kritz/Quick-Fix/Vaccinator, so for example if you Uber yourself, you can take out Vita Saw and you will still be ubered, which KINDA enables Battle Medic mode, potential use? Situations where Medic is left alone with 100 uber and no one to use Uber/Kritz on. I would imagine it being powerful with Kritzkrieg when you're alone and then ambushing enemies with sudden 195 crit damage. This mechanic is more to promote self-defense in desperate situations. You can also add damage nerf or faster uber drain on Hit/Miss just to balance it a bit more.
Disciplinary Action is quite balanced support weapon, of course it promotes Heavy to mid strat, but weapon is just purely balanced and shouldnt be changed.

It is broken right now I agree. I just think that people will be irritated by no aim punch no matter what. Maybe looking at a mechanic that relies on being charged to a certain percentage in order for that to activate? So at, say 25% charge, you no longer take aim punch?

i still don't understand the complaints about cozy camper, but i do think darwin's needs a better downside in the future if they decide to tweak it
in the case of the cozy camper, i don't see how it's better than just using razorback/jarate/even smg, snipers shouldn't be taking damage in the first place, and even if they're getting shot at, they should know to just aim lower so the knockback from getting hit slaps their aim upward anyways lol
in terms of 6s sniping, you're going to want to be hitting that first shot as a surprise anyways, if you miss the other team should already have moved their medic into a position where getting sniped is impossible or already punished/killed the sniper as soon as he misses before he rotates again
in terms of highlander sniping, everyone is buffed anyways and i can't see a sniper just sitting there with one shot fully charged just slowly walking around looking for a pick with the cozy camper, at least in terms of plat if anyone spots him out, he's gonna get pressured really hard by anyone who can get to him
i just don't see the cozy campers benefits over any of the other sniper secondaries, but i have heard a ton of complaints about the camper so maybe it's a new meta that i don't grasp?

More about 6s sniper than HL, first of all. That video was just showing him managing to take a shot with 6 people focused on spamming him. Also, sniping into last is just one situation, there's also sniping while holding mid or holding second where the cozy camper is even more dumb, and you basically always have to sac someone into the sniper to kill him, and that person has to go in alone because if their team walks in the rocket won't even disrupt his aim. It makes it so the only way to push is either always sac one for what will probably not even be a kill or hope the sniper misses.

I started using the cozy camper 99% of the time ever since they removed the extra damage taken. Recent buff was not needed. Reverting that buff and making it always regen 1hp again is okay imo but maybe I'm a bit biased because I use it so much and an extra downside is needed. People weren't complaining about it before the recent buff though so I think that'd be fine with most people

There's also bringing up your own sniper, which arguably slows the game down and turns it into an SvS (which you can never guarantee your sniper will win unless he just has better aim).
In HL you have the same thing (counterspam, sack, countersnipe), but any good team has their sniper constantly 185 with people protecting him. 185 + no aimpunch + protection makes sacks and counterspam less reliable as several people are watching for bombs constantly, and better snipers will 150+ you after your first couple shots if you can't immediately flinch them. Think the razorback, but you can't spam-flinch the sniper, and the team picks up more slack to deny the spy.
In any format, great soldiers and spies can still get picks on a cozy camper sniper. It just puts alot of pressure on those classes to hit shots with the sniper guaranteed to hit theirs (if they have the aim).
The problem in the video was that sniper could take several stable shots with 3-4 people spamming him, which gives him more shots (opportunities) he physically wouldn't be able to hit w.o adjusting for recoil. People hate dealing with snipers in HL b/c they either have good aim or good protection. And the camper improves his aim because there's no recoil forcing him to unscope/compensate. It's harder to pressure the sniper if you can't mess up his scope, and your somewhat forced to suicide for him if he doesn't overextend and eat spam

i still don't understand the complaints about cozy camper, but i do think darwin's needs a better downside in the future if they decide to tweak it
in the case of the cozy camper, i don't see how it's better than just using razorback/jarate/even smg, snipers shouldn't be taking damage in the first place, and even if they're getting shot at, they should know to just aim lower so the knockback from getting hit slaps their aim upward anyways lol
in terms of 6s sniping, you're going to want to be hitting that first shot as a surprise anyways, if you miss the other team should already have moved their medic into a position where getting sniped is impossible or already punished/killed the sniper as soon as he misses before he rotates again
in terms of highlander sniping, everyone is buffed anyways and i can't see a sniper just sitting there with one shot fully charged just slowly walking around looking for a pick with the cozy camper, at least in terms of plat if anyone spots him out, he's gonna get pressured really hard by anyone who can get to him
i just don't see the cozy campers benefits over any of the other sniper secondaries, but i have heard a ton of complaints about the camper so maybe it's a new meta that i don't grasp?

More about 6s sniper than HL, first of all. That video was just showing him managing to take a shot with 6 people focused on spamming him. Also, sniping into last is just one situation, there's also sniping while holding mid or holding second where the cozy camper is even more dumb, and you basically always have to sac someone into the sniper to kill him, and that person has to go in alone because if their team walks in the rocket won't even disrupt his aim. It makes it so the only way to push is either always sac one for what will probably not even be a kill or hope the sniper misses.[/quote]
There's also bringing up your own sniper, which arguably slows the game down and turns it into an SvS (which you can never guarantee your sniper will win unless he just has better aim).
In HL you have the same thing (counterspam, sack, countersnipe), but any good team has their sniper constantly 185 with people protecting him. 185 + no aimpunch + protection makes sacks and counterspam less reliable as several people are watching for bombs constantly, and better snipers will 150+ you after your first couple shots if you can't immediately flinch them. i'm just saying in the hypothetical situation where matchmaking has all items unbanned, why would you use the cozy camper over jarate in 6s ever
just saying this as someone who used to run sniper primarily in 6s
i remember how mad people would get in scrims when they got jarate'd + double bombed as they pushed into choke points
i mean with the additional posts, i can see what the gripe is about cozy camper in 6s, but i just don't see it being better than jarate in my point of view, even on midfights jarate would be way more valuable if you're bringing a sniper to mid in the first place

cozy camper should lose the health regen (cuz that's a really boring stat to actually play with, since it's designed so you have to wait for a good while). I think the no-flinch/no-knockback stats should stay, since those make for something interesting to use, but he needs a downside to it, maybe his old scoped-movement nerf but not as absurd as -80%
parachute is also a really easy fix, you can only deploy it once, and can't be redeployed until you touch the ground. it actually makes the intended weakness matter, once hitscan weapons catch you you're either holding on for dear life or you're falling to the ground and taking fall dmg

I think you'd use jarate more or less when you aren't in super stalematey situations. For stalemates, cozy camper is without a doubt supreme. But in the instance that you run sniper to mid, then it's more of a toss up kind of situation

I think you'd use jarate more or less when you aren't in super stalematey situations. For stalemates, cozy camper is without a doubt supreme. But in the instance that you run sniper to mid, then it's more of a toss up kind of situation

I think that and having the ability to fly with a soldier/demoman should only be available when using the quick fix uber. The mobility upside (being able to jump with your heal target) for the medic is just too good imo

throw out all of the stats, replace with the following:
-laser weapon what does the pew pew at a long range and goes through enemies
-actually has a damage ramp-up up to mid-range distance; near-zero damage when firing right next to someone, but then goes up to noticeably dangerous damage, and then ramps back down to fairly meaningless levels so you can't just spam it across 2fort or whatever
I don't know why valve makes it so hard for themselves to develop the laser weapons in TF2. an engineer laser rifle doesn't need to negate all of his weaknesses like it does, it's a long-range weapon that replaces a short-range weapon, that on its own merits can work
e: a small addition I'd like to make, also: regardless of what the medigun is popped, vac kritz or otherwise, it stops any penetration from the laser for the duration of that pop. a medic pick without this scenario is fairly rare, but being able to kill a kritz'd medic would be pretty obnoxious
