I know, all of you are going to say it is not worth it. Unfortunately, I travel a lot, and move so a heavy desktop wont cut it for me.
So, I was looking at this laptop.
Price seems reasonable, but I want one of you hardware whizes to see the parts and what not, maybe find me a better deal for my money (again, not a desktop),

ASUS is definitely the way to go for laptops. The only way youre gunna get better bang for your buck is if you build your own laptop which i guess would cost more because you're spending a lot of your own time.
That's a good laptop for sure. If you want more power you can get their goofy looking ones with a big grill in the back, but those weigh a ton. I personally got the zenbook pro:
http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Zenbook-UX501VW-DS71T-Touch-Laptop/dp/B018AX3OHO
which is great for work + travel + occasional gaming. I can average a good 120fps in pubs with it so you could definitely play tf2 well on it.

Lenovo also has laptops in the same pricerange that are around the same specs, if you don't care about having 16gb of ram you can get a better video card and save 50 dollars with this.

or if you don't care about screen size you can save another $50 with this

another step down would be this but you could probably still get decent fps in tf2 despite it being much lower powered

Sony don't make laptops any more, they sold the VAIO brand off.

Digital storm, maingear, and iBuypower are all pretty good from what I've heard.
I had exact same dilemma for past 2 days, finally decided on this one:

Nice i7 6700HQ cpu, 8GB RAM and GTX 950m, 15.6inch. Apparently has really good cooling, lots of open space on the bottom, so using a cooling pad will be very efficient too. It delivers tomorrow so I can let you know how it feels :D

The ThinkPad line is for business customers - IdeaPads are for consumers. They have an entire gaming series.

I don't see how that's a step down for TF2. It literally has the same i7-6700HQ with a weaker GPU, but TF2 doesn't give a shit about your GPU.

This actually looks across the board worse than the one posted in the topic post from price to specs

If you want a gaming laptop get sager/clevo/msi
You can get a gaming laptop now with a desktop cpu and a desktop gpu. Pretty much a portable desktop. The issue with gaming laptops is that the hardware in them is not as fast as a desktop so you always miss out.

AND they tend to overheat. Good speks in laptop = MUCH overheating, and sometimes even a good cooling pad doesn't help and CPU throttling occurs, giving horrible fps drops. That's why MSI laptops are considered good for gaming, coz they always have very good cooling and it's the reason I chose one. I had ASUS laptop with some decent CPU and GPU and it overheated like hell, during summer it would randomly shut down while playing TF2, coz CPU temperature reached like, 98-100 Celsius. And I used a good cooling pad with it.

In the country where I live I managed to find this MSI laptop for the same price as the IdeaPad posted above (15inch). They differ only by GPU (lenovo got 960m, MSI got 950m) but MSI is considerably lighter and got better cooling, that's why I chose it.
