Figured I'd make another DOOM post for those who care, pretty excited to see if they've took any gameplay feedback into consideration, but ultimately kinda hyped to just play some more of the game (even though it wasn't what I expected it to be).

Have only read bad reviews, seems like it's trying to become cod/halo rather than a proper arena fps. I won't be bothering personally.

The multiplayer is fucking shit. Everything I hate about modern FPS games mixed with supposed 'old school' mechanics, but it's definitely skewed on the former side. It has a severe identity crisis.
It turns out Certain Affinity are co-developing the multiplayer so it's really not much of a surprise that we aren't getting what many people hoped for.
On a side note, has anyone read Masters of Doom? Great book.

I played for 2 hours.
No aircontrol, rockets are weak, lg is weak. the sniper (railgun ish) is easy and kills on headshot. Most of the weapons can zoom, and the zoom sens felt way different for each one. Melee's can one shot kill. Melee's can one shot kill. Melee's can one shot kill. There was some slowdown during intense fights...not sure if it was bc of my Nvidia card. When you launch the game, the first thing you see is a warning about nvidia cards.

Great book indeed. The audiobook is read by Wil Wheaton, I listened to the whole thing while dm-ing a year or so ago.

ArticleAfter trying out Doom 4 this morning, he said he felt the pace was much slower than its predecessors due to changes such as a single close-range shot no longer taking out an enemy, and the lack of weapons "hotspots" where weapons were created in the older games.
"I still like Doom 4 but it doesn't feel like Doom 4, it feels like a sequel to Quake or Unreal Tournament," he said.
Has this man ever played Quake?

I played a bit today, you can't airstrafe, you can't rocket jump at all.

So first off, anyone play the closed beta? Wondering because I feel like the overall movement speed has been increased a little since closed beta and I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same effect. May just be the addition of the fov slider though.
As well as a fov slider I think a viewmodel scaling/viewmodel disable option should be implemented, along with some sort of hud changing system, could be as free or as limited as it wants to be (like csgo). I'd personally just much rather certain things be at the bottom of the screen as that's what I'm used to.
My complaints so far;
Needs air control, even if it's only in your second jump (kinda like scout) but I feel it needs something and I feel like adding it like this wouldn't render the map design useless.
I feel like when you're doing a glory kill inside a warpath point you should still count towards capping, and speaking of animations; the ledge climb thing, I want them to let you be able to look 360 degrees (even if it doesn't make sense) It feels although a level of control is being taken away for like a second as you climb up and it's kind of crucial to know what's going on behind you when climbing certain ledges.
Don't know if it's just me, but when you're at the death screen and have the option to spawn, pressing tab seems to just make the scoreboard spaz out instead of just showing like it normally would anywhere else ingame, was a minor annoyance.
Could be wrong but are airshots listed as "upshots"? sure I saw "Upshot +25points" or some ridiculous shit pop up on my screen at some point, why not just stick to the known phrases like airshots/mid airs?
Hit detection with mele feels off at times, not to mention I've somehow been glory killed mid teleport with the personal teleporter (sometimes moving the other player to where I'd be teleporting to), needs refined somewhat.
EDIT: Needs some sort of damage indicator as well, barely know you're being shot due to all the visual clutter and noise, let alone where from.

I'm going to give this a whirl later this weekend but from what I can gather the main fundamental complaints are:
1. Clearly designed for consoles as mechanics and such seem to be copies of current modern console shooters
2. Certain Affinity had a hand in development of the game and Certain Affinity is comprised of ex-Bungie employees, so the game is very reminiscent of Halo
So certainly an identity crisis between wanting to be Doom but having the mindset of Halo equating out to be a generic shooter.

I just hope the full game has Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 4

No doom style advanced movement(strafe-running) that's sad. Rocket jumping and air strafing was never a part of doom so I don't really mind that, but those floaty halo jumps are horrible.
Horrible mouse input and capped 60 fps doesn't help either.
The instakill melee hits are annoying and little damage feedback. You can take a direct hit rocket in the back without even noticing it.
So far it feels really generic. Can't describe it in words but it's missing that magic previous titles had.

Ok what the fuck is going on? My game is defaulting task manager priority to low when I'm ingame?
Happened during closed beta as well, my day one run of the game was fine and smooth but upon second launch it defaults my task manager priority to low which causes my frames to be awful.
(Defaults to normal in menus, but low ingame? what the fuck)
Anyone have any idea how I can force it to high/stop this from happening?

Played it for about an hour today. Very slow paced game play. No real advanced movement techniques. FPS cap at 60 makes the game perform awful and makes aiming a chore. The demon is pretty OP but I haven't played with decent enough players to actually try and focus it down. I get melee'd from like 20 ft away and it's a one hit one kill. Maps are pretty awful with a lot of unnecessary corridors. LG is weak as fuck. Too much visual clutter and the viewmodel is MASSIVE. Very difficult to tell if and where you are getting damaged from. All the weapon and character customizations are pretty unnecessary in my opinion. Played about 4 rounds and was pretty bored after the 3rd.
The game looks pretty though. Maybe the campaign can save this game, but I doubt it.

Okay I've played for a while and this is how I can convey this game to you
Imagine Halo but with way less stuff and a giant OP Demon running around farming kills for the team its on.

The game is automatically set on 1080p. I need to change it to 720p for more fps. The game is slow paced. Demon is op, requiring massive teamwork to fight aganist. No good movement techniques. They should announce another open beta after required changes.
In short, the game is less "doom 4" and more "call of doom: demons".

it's really underwhelming
no advanced movement mechanics, no airstrafing or explosive jumping
game has incredible amounts of mouse lag
hit reg is abysmal, you can kill/get killed by melee attacks across the map
momvement speed is super slow
gun viewmodels are too big
theres little to no feed back when you get attacked, so you end up walking behind 3 people and killing them all because they cant hear or see that they are getting shot by you
its not very hard either
haven't had problems against demons tbh

idk whether we need another thread or not but 1st of all the game is out and 2nd the single player looks fucking insane, will definitely buy it later on just for that

The singleplayer is the only thing that interests me but..
I'm really against paying 60 euros for a single player game, how is the replay value?

The game is currently going for 24 quid on cdkeys, so if the single player is actually decent then I'll likely buy it before the price goes up.
Review copy embargoes tend to make me skeptical, but so far it's sounding like another Shadow of Mordor situation.
