i've only had like 2 sleep paralysis experiences but things like this interest me so much. do you guys have any experiences with this, i would love to hear them.

for anyone who doesn't know, sleep paralysis is when your body thinks you're asleep but you're still awake so you start to dream over reality (hallucinations) and you can't really move.

happens to me every couple months and I recognize its going on and I don't trip out, I sit there and wake up eventually.

it's definitely scary shit if its never happened to you before and you don't know wtf is going on

edit: ok I don't have hallucinations or dream while this is happening, maybe I experience something else because I just kinda sit there and can't move lol

I have sleep paralysis regularly, and it's still fucking terrifying every time it happens. Not being able to move, not being able to even turn your head. Just awful. I always panic and wrench myself awake.

Happened to me a handful of times but I've read about it before so I knew it was sleep paralysis. I was only able to nudge my head a bit but I started to regain control after a minute or two.

The only instance I can recall is where I was lying down and a spider was hanging from my ceiling. It started to lowering itself very slowly closer to me face to where it was only inches away. Thats pretty much where it ended, but it scared the shit out of me. When I finally regained control I frantically searched for it for like 10 minutes

it's interesting that when you have sleep paralysis it's always something like spawn from hell. it's never, uh, i'm stuck in this boat of wonderful little candies in this magic wonderland.

i've had them twice. my first one was pretty scary. was dreaming that i was dreaming, and then i wake in my dream, hear footsteps, they're getting close, they stop, then bam something fucky whispers in my ears and sleep paralysis. can't move, try to scream but no sounds will come out. don't remember now how long it lasted but yeah....it's intense.

used to have it very frequently when i was a kid and i get it maybe twice a year now

generally i know when it going to happen when i start trying to go to sleep and i sleep for like 10 minutes and I wake up

then it's just me lying in my bed with my eyes open with me attempting to move

sometimes i have nightmares when it's just me in my bed paralyzed and usually ends with me looking at my TV or my computer monitor ending up with a screamer

I've only had it happen once and I think that's really the perfect number of times to experience it if you're curious about weird stuff. It's so vivid but I also legitimately thought I was being strangled to death so I'm happy to not do it again.

sleep paralysis also known as "night hag". a lot of people say when they have sleep paralysis they hallucinate an old woman that most call "the hag" basically what they say happens is she sits on you and that's why you can't move. i've had sleep paralysis a few times, i usually try to sleep on my chest and towards a wall every night so i won't see any hallucinations.
just remember that what you see during sleep paralysis is a product of your brain, so in a way you control what you see.

on a side note, something that's even more scary for me personally is sleep apnea. sometimes when i was younger i would wake up in a pitch dark room, gasping for air and not knowing what the fuck was going on for a few seconds. almost makes you not want to sleep.

I have it often. The other night I had an episode in which I was frozen and some black figure was choking and pressing down on me. I swear I heard it speak to me too. Can't remember what it said but I actually thought I was being possessed. Most terrifying experiences ever.

On a lighter note, I believe lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis are somehow linked, as I've had a couple of lucid dreams, which feel similar to sleep paralysis. Lucid dreams ( in my experience ) aren't like they are in the movies. It isn't like a sandbox game where you do what you want. I got dropped in several situations where I was conscious that I was dreaming and I could control my own actions, like I remember driving a car over a bridge.

Sleep paralysis and lucid dreams are for sure one hell of an experience.

#11 I've also had experiences with sleep apnea, which is equally as fucking terrifying. Not sure if it's related to paralysis.

i get it preeeeetty often, like at least once a week. but i've never hallucinated, and i'm usually able to get myself to move after a few minutes, however it's still a horrible and scary feeling. the worst part about my sleep paralysis is that it doesn't go away even after i get up. if i lie back down i immediately experience it once again, and it's an endless loop.

I get it a lot but I don't get any illusions. I usually just break out of it by breathing heavily in long puffs.

I used to have it semi regularly. Usually i could tell it was coming on from a sort of buzzing in my head when I was about to fall asleep. Only once or twice did I ever have any kind of hallucination. Weirdest i can remember is seeing a vivid lightning bolt outside my.window. It usually just made me panic. Since i lost some weight I haven't experienced it. I don't know if it's due to weight loss or a change in diet or change in sleep schedule or what.

I've had horrible experiences with it. My hallucinations keep me scared to this day, I see what look like demons all around me and its last for about 2 hours. Only happens like 4 times a year though. TLDR: I'm 29 years old and scared of the dark.

It happens to me semi-regularly. I've gotten used to it now.

What happens to me after I realize it's happening is that feeling comes back into my fingers and then my hands and then my wrist, eventually until I have control of my arm.

Then I start punching myself in the face until I wake myself up.

I've probably had sleep paralysis about a dozen times, always with hallucinations. And always unpleasant ones. The first time I saw a dark figure watching me from my closet simply melt away into my clothes. Another time I opened my eyes to watch a roommate, whom I had a profile view of and was totally engrossed in GTA, transform from a pale demon.

With more experience, you start to realize early in the hallucination process that this could be sleep paralysis. And so you check whether you can move any part of your body, or even scream -- but you can't. You can only control your thoughts. And so you just tell yourself that the hallucination will pass, and ride it out. I don't know how long that takes. Probably only five or ten seconds, but sometimes it feels like a minute.

I've personally never gotten hallucinations, just a black empty void of thought where I feel like I should be awake - I can hear my fans running, feel myself laying on my bed - but I just can't move. I have to exert myself tremendously to tell my body I'm awake before my arm moves the tiniest inch.

When I was a kid I had it almost every night and would hallucinate what looked like those classic grey aliens, I thought I was being abducted until I saw a TV show about alien abductions and a scientist they were interviewing said it was probably just sleep paralysis. I still have it pretty often, but I have pretty major sleep problems anyway so I'm used to it and always immediately recognize it. I still hallucinate when it happens to me about half the time. It's pretty unpleasant but the whole sleep process is quite unpleasant for me so its whatever I guess.

It happens to me time to time, but I don't have hallucinations. I'm an anxious person by nature, and when it happens I usually wake up because I start to have a panic attack. Right about the time I start to panic is when I wake up and calm down though, thankfully.

I experienced that a number of times, funny thing is, it was always the same thing that happened. I would be lying in bed, then I "wake up" and try to walk to the door, but as I get closer the door moves further away. Then I realise that I am still lying in bed and that it is not real. Desperately trying to move, basicly screaming in my head to wake up, but unable to do anything. It sometimes happened multiple times a night. IIRC it only happened after taking drugs though, namely: speed, xtc, weed.

I haven't had it for like 3-4 years but when I started having it I was fuckin terrified. I first started having it when I entered university, it was usually horrible nightmarish situations.

The first and most terrifying one which I still remember to this day was me lying on bed sleeping, all of a sudden someone knocking on the door really hard like "Im gonna knock this door down kind of hard" and I woke up, then the door opened really fast and all I saw was a figure with a huge kitchen knife who was gonna stab my chest and I couldn't move at all, then when it stabbed me I suddenly woke up again gasping for air like I really just had been stabbed in the chest, still allucinating and having flashbacks but was completely paralyzed, I was literally trying with all the forces in my body to move my arms and legs and I couldn't get them to move 1 inch, I literally sat there lying for 10 mins sweating profusely while trying to move my limbs with all I had and I could not . It was probably the most afraid I have been in my life.

I haven't had it for the past few years, thankfully, that was around the time I was struggling with lots of family problems so Im not sure if that influenced it at all.
