what would happen to our items if tf3 came out
same goes for csgo like what would happen do our skins get ported over or what

TF3 wouldn't get released until our items already became worthless due to lack of interest/demand in TF2 so it's not worth thinking about.

The whole concept of hats and skins, at least now, are the sole reason why TF3 won't happen. On top of that, what could TF3 even be that would produce a better experience? Anything the devs would want to do for an FPS like TF can be/is being achieved through TF2. Huge player base? Check. Still capable of balancing the game further for a better experience? Check. Possibilities to add on to the game content wise? Check. The game now having an official competitive setting that does nothing but help the game grow in general? Check. Money from a perfectly executed, cosmetic-based microtransaction system that isn't hindered by the players' ability to buy and sell from others? Check.
It's the perfect system, aside from what you consider perfect as far as gameplay is considered.
On topic, I can't believe TF2 has been out as long as it has. I still remember the day learning that the game existed and my first ever game on cp_orange with 15 fps, playing battle medic without knowing I was supposed to heal but still having the absolute time of my life.

instead of tf3 why not just make tf2 better by not making it run like shit
instead of tf3 why not just make tf2 better by not making it run like shit
Wishlist for tf3:
- runs on source 2 engine
- solely competitive build based on 6s
- hats/weapons/etc are usable in tf2 and tf3
- game is well optimized for lower end computers (which I guess can go with running on source 2)
matchuinstead of tf3 why not just make tf2 better by not making it run like shit
Imo, this is what tf2 really needs after mm and (more) developer support

i think porting an entire game to a new engine would be worth updating the game number as a sequel depending on what they added as content/tweaked severely

The only reason I think they might make tf3 right now is to design it right from the get-go as an esport. But that's probably unlikely considering how much money they make from traders currently. They could increase it, sure, but it would be a big risk.

Compare against QWTF instead of TFC maybe
Not saying something will happen at that time but imo it's a more fair interval considering QWTF and TFC being mostly similar

Why would you want it ported to source 2? It has a different physics engine, so enjoy have rocket jumping, surfing, trimping, and projectiles be messed up for tf2 players. Also making it solely competitive would piss off a lot of the more casual community.

If they're going to make tf3, they should probably remove the memes.
Just a suggestion.
So far I have received one -frag. Will this post be proof that the tf2 community loves memes? Only time will tell.
Good to know.

Might as well. I intended it to be only a theoretical thought. But seeing the suggestions made by others, it's probably just best for valve to stick to the focus on mm and general performance improvements

Wait hang on, I just looked back at this thread, re-read it and saw that you want to enforce 6v6 on all players in the game.
Are you seriously suggesting that you should only be able to play on servers of 6s in the entire game?
6s is great but other things are fun too

A Steam dev already said they could add the MM interface (DotA/CS:GO etc) in TF2 easily but the return just wouldn't be big enough. It's already a super lucrative business with skins alone, why gamble it on the game aspect of.. The game. I guess.

Like people said TF3 only makes sense after TF2 has lost all interest and the economy is dead. It could be 5 or even 10 years before that happens but it's fun to think about what TF3 could be, no? Personally I'm thinking the cartoony artstyle is a staple and should stay, but it could be made in a futuristic setup instead of 60's-70's action espionage movies.
Gameplay-wise I'd like it to come a bit closer to arena shooters and play faster, which could be overall increased movement speed, maybe strafe jumps and/or quickdodges, maybe even friggin jetpacks, who knows.
You'd also need to change the support classes. Changing pyro to a LG class that has a projectile shield instead of airblast, heavy to be a half-tank half-support but not really dealing that much damage, engie maybe emphasised in quick teleporters and supplying buffs (armor/damage/etc) to his teammates instead of sentries, medic with a bit more combat ability but a heavy nerf on the ubercharge mechanic so it isn't so central to the gameplay. Like ideally you'd be able to choose to have a medic or an engie as your support without much difference.
Other classes could be more or less the same as they are. Possibly make the spy still able to backstab but more revolver-based with better guns, as stabbing won't be as effective with everyone wheezing around the map at quake-like speeds.

jefftf2 doesnt make bank
valve makes lots of money off of steam community market fees (valve takes 15% of any tf2 market purchase), but idk if porting to source2 would increase this revenue
