i like that in hanamura u can see the arrows and shuriken from the fight in the video, and that the lamp genji got tossed through is damaged as well. Nice attention to detail by blizz

While I really admire the production quality of these, the plot/script is pretty damn cheesy and childish. Also, a damn FPS (where the whole point is to kill others) being Teen-rated doesn't contribute (notice how they included a robot guard specifically so that Hanzo can shoot somebody without blood). That's why I like tf2 shorts much more - soldier stacking enemies' heads in a line, sniper shooting a bottle into demoman's eye, engie's sentry targeting a severed hand is more entertaining and funny than watching a guy 'incapacitating' bad guys to some cliche dialogue.

So Hanzo only fights Genji for DISHONORU his brother, and then acts surprised when Genji is revealed.
How is this remotely relevant to #teamhanzo or #teamgenji? Did the Warcraft movie marketing team take over OW? It's the cheapest imaginable cash-in on social media hype. "Hey lets throw in some Civil War shit and unwarranted rivalry".

He acts surprised because he thought he killed his brother. I don't think he has the power to automatically sense who the dude in the cyborg armor is, so naturally he would be surprised that the dude who is kicking his ass and uses the power only his clan can use is the brother he thought he killed.

That capsule-esque thing is probably is the same tech as I saw in Tracer's and Winston's primary. Both of them are utilized to reload or in other words, replenish their ammo or some sort. I'm thinking that Genji is technically is a cyborg and probably uses some sort at least energy, his ult probably uses most of it and the mechanism pops out to replenish his energy, but that's only my thoughts.

theres a difference between things being supernatural and things not making sense/not having a reason to happen

I feel the thing Blizzard fails to realize is that what they have is a cartoon FPS that is by definition pretty silly. Valve understood that with TF2 and fully embraced the silliness, coating it with that humour of theirs that works so well. With these videos it just feels like they're trying too hard to make an epic, larger-than-life lore, but they're lacking content to do so.
Of course since the game is rated teen and the videos are more destined to advertise the game than anything, said teens will probably eat this shit right up, so asking for "character development" in a cartoon FPS may be silly.

I don't understand the problem. They're animated shorts to give some background/lore to the classes. A strictly multiplayer game might not need that, but when it's given, cliche or not, it manages to become a problem because it is visually cartoony and not drowning in humor and somehow that's wrong.
I assume someone's going to reply with the statement that visually cartoony games should come fully equipped with a ton of humor and that there is no alternative, but fuck it. While this short does come with cliche, the shorts as a whole have been still pretty good as far as storytelling is concerned.

The problem some people have is if you want people to really get into the lore the dialog shouldn't be shallow and cheesy.

I wouldn't consider it neither cheesy nor shallow. The story that the short incorporated is pretty interesting (and, for me as a result, not cheesy) and a good listen, but I would consider it a bit cliche. Who hasn't heard this type of story or something similar? Cliche, yes; cheesy and shallow, no. This is subjective, so don't take it otherwise.

To be fair I think the storyline they have could go places with some good writing and character development. It just seems to fall short atm, but I'm willing to give it time.
