I'm about to have a fuckin aneurysm here. My pocket and I are in mumble with a friend and it comes up that my pocket binds 0 to push-to-talk.
0. Like on the top row of numbers.
He says that when he comms, he has to take a hand off of either his mouse or his WASD, "depending on the circumstances". He's having a breakdown trying to defend himself.
He refuses to believe me or the friend that he's retarded. Please, please, please show him the way.
Im about 20 sec from cutting him. I'm recording this mumble convo for the next generation.

Sideshowtell him to use voice activation and he'll never look back again
Just make sure he plays around with the settings a bit so it only picks up decently loud noises or his voice only.

what else would you use? Shift?
I find the mouse easiest because you don't have to take a finger off of an important key with your left hand

b4nny uses the most unconventional bindings ever (presses down scroll wheel to talk)
so I mean mouse push to talks don't make it impossible to be good
if you have to move your hands off of WASD or your mouse that's just dumb though

if you have to take your hand off the mouse you need to change your push to talk plain and simple

if you're not in a lan environment and you care about being a good player, you absolutely should be using voice activation. there's no good reason not to.
it will help you learn how to talk while moving/shooting, and eventually you can swap to a non-obtrusive bind, which is anything that doesn't impact your moving/shooting. for example, i use left shift because i don't use my pinky for anything else (crouch bound to right click on soldier).
try to play a round of mge without letting go of your push to talk bind as an example, for most people this will be very uncomfortable
also, some obvious advice: if there is something that will make you better in the long run depsite being uncomfortable in the short term, just change now and get used to it. for example, learning to crouch with right click was extremely foreign but it made ctapping easier

I use push to talk because I talk to myself compulsively. More so than to my teammates.

I used to use middle mouse button for push to talk. At one point I toggle muted with the down arrow key on my keyboard as the mute button. That's still my mute button but I use voice activation now.

b/v is the best way to go. For me, my thumb knuckle is on the spacebar and the b/v key is easy access
