Medic heal setting

Hey guys, my hypothesis is that an overwhelming majority of comp medics use click and hold instead of any form of auto heal, but I'm putting up this strawpoll to test my idea: http://www.strawpoll.me/10354443

Click and hold: standard default option
Valve autoheal: enabling the built-in advanced option to continue healing after letting go of m1
Scripted autoheal: constantly having +attack enabled and m1 is bound to -attack

I always thought it was the other way around, holding the mouse button gets annoying for me at least.

WOW this is surprising.

valve autoheal REALLY sucks

if you use valve autoheal and have ever dropped someone in an uber you should seriously think about changing...

I was a click + holder for a while, but around 2011 or so I switched to valve's single click because my hand was getting sore lol - it takes a little getting used to at first, but that only lasted a few days.

i used to hold it but then changed it to the valve auto heal. it wasnt till voeratch i remebered that default heal beams in games are click and hold(mercy) so i had to remeber to change that setting so overwatch and tf2 have easy on hand healings

yea i just use the advanced options auto heal thing dont see any reason to click and hold and iirc there was a thread discussing the valve auto heal vs scripted and there weren't any major differences besides the inversed click to stop healing option

Scripted autoheal > No autoheal > Valve autoheal

Although I use Valve autoheal in combination with scripted autoheal, no reason not to. Unless the other team is running a spy.

skeejIt was actually someone else who took the time and effort to get some people on a server and do some mythbusting. If I remember correctly he went medic, with 2 soldiers in front of him self damaging constantly. He healed them while switching between the 2 targets quickly. He did this with Valve (c) Autoheal and Scripted Autoheal, and the result was that Valve autoheal resulted in a faster built uber (I think it was about 2 seconds = 5% charge?). 95% or 100% can be gamechanging in some clutch situations indeed.

To clarify: the "Scripted Autoheal" Skeej mentions is not the inverted "Scripted Autoheal" Slin mentions.

Hold to heal is superior - no delay when switching targets.

i use Valve auto-heal.
It's the best if you want to know who you're healing all the time and you can actually be more focus on the game/envrionment and not on the heal beam.

Always have done "click and hold" and always will. I feel like I'm much more in control of my heals when I do that, plus I've had weird experiences with the heal beam fucking up on corners or something when I tried autoheal. I can't remember the specifics because that was years ago, but I talked to Buick about it and he confirmed whatever my suspicion was.

Always used the valve auto heal, tried the auto heal script and also click and hold lots of times and never noticed a difference, just came down to preference.

Starkiehow does it make you drop people in ubers?

From my experience: if you don't place your crosshair correctly, the beam will go to the first person available (especially happens if you're holding down m1) - and if your teammates' models are inside one another, then they are at risk of being dropped simply by not being flashed.

Unsure if that's what miwo is talking about, but I hope it helps.

when i used it i found it difficult to change targets between ubered people quickly especially thru tight doors, when they were in front of other players, around obstacles or enemy players, etc.

someone said "why the hell do you have that enabled" and I switched off it and it made an appreciable difference during uber fights.

Yeah once I turned on the valve autoheal it was much harder to swap between targets mid uber. Clicking and holding does get tiring but then the only reason you drop someone is your own fault :P

In theory scripted autoheal is the same as holding your mouse button.

I polled S22 Invite Medics and found the following:

~~~~Valve Autoheal~~~~
Phorofor
Lucrative
Nursey
Xattuu
Skye
Bear
Ninjanick
Cookiejake
~~~~Click and hold~~~~
Shade
Zilly

I was so wrong man.

I've always felt like there was much more control with flashing and switching targets in click and hold compared to Valve's auto heal. Couldn't stand auto heal for the week I used it when I tried it a while back
