Thank you for casting open, and to everyone who is doing open casting and coverage (loot, whyme, tery, etc). The weekly power rankings help me figure out what teams I should start scheduling scrims with, too :D
Open is where we're starting to develop the coordination and drive as individual players to progress, and coverage helps showcase new talent as well as give recognition to players newer to the scene. Every bit helps grow the scene!

Coming from someone who did power rankings a few times before, you should expect to weekly ruffle feathers or straight up piss people off no matter how nice you are in the write-ups.
The sad fact is that when most people think about "Power Rankings" it turns into a popularity contest where only the most noteworthy names or teams have any right to be included. My only advice on doing rankings is to have a specific criteria on how to rank teams. In my opinion, I based mostly everything I ranked on "Match Results" because in my mind they were the most important criteria from week to week.
Keep the writing going! There are a lot of people who appreciate writers but don''t respond in the threads. You usually only see the negative responses.
I think matches should be the standard but keep in mind this was literally the first week of open, and it's understandable that they pulled from logs. I know that in our case I was laggy for most of my scrims last week or we weren't playing and other teams might have issues too but that is, for the most part, not displayed in logs. Don't shit on writers for undervaluing teams or overvaluing teams it's their opinion and they have some logical reasoning behind it, they don't just spew out random crap(@milan and other salty players). I'm sure as the season goes on a lot of people giving open coverage will get a more accurate feeling of what teams will do best. Look at week one from last season https://thekillerexclusivetf2.wordpress.com/2016/01/27/esea-o-6s-s21-week-1-top-16-rankings/. There wasn't much to go off of and a lot of the teams didn't survive or did worse than expected.
TLDR Any attention is good attention and bitching about week one/two power rankings is stupid since a lot of teams haven't had teams grow or play.

for example ko1n / kevinS cheats pretty blatantly in rank s with dukiii (i think?) and esea pretty much doesn't ban him while letting him play on the pro team underdogs 1 2 kid records videos of himself cheating on client and esea still won't ban him because he's not detected

Has ESEA ever banned a TF2 player? I'm not going to go through 100 pages of bans but from the ones I skimmed it seems to only be CS players
