GPU for 1080P tf2

What's the minimum gpu I can get away with to run tf2 at 1920x1080 with

1) maxframes cfg
2) highquality/maxquality cfg

I can't find anyone who's bothered to benchmark for source engine, don't really have a feel for how demanding it is. My cpu is an i5 3570k so I'm more than covered in that department. Looking to downgrade gpus so a friend can take my gtx 580.

overclock your cpu and you'd be fine on integrated graphics

Any midrange card even ($150ish or higher) will perform more than you need. Your cpu is going to be your throttling point with any card that isn't in the $120-130 or lower range, so don't fret over GPUs when it comes to TF2, worry about what you need for other games.

what #3 said. My rule of thumb is buy the best single gpu you can afford. To me an amd 7950 or 660ti are really good values for the performance they give you. Typically $300 gpus are what I would suggest, while $200-250 is the bang for your buck performance wise. Unless you want to benchmark or really like to set graphics settings on max with ridiculous amount of AA and AF, $500 and above gpus are really not worth it imo.

5 year old gpus are overkill for tf2.. you should be able to get away with near anything

Hey i play at 1920x1080. I use a 650ti 2GB and it runs tf2 at 120fps avg with low settings in dx9.

i have an i7, but honestly i ran tf2 with a phenon II black, quad core. 1920x1080 on a 60 inch tv, high quality across the board, never dipped below 80 fps, everything maxed out. Currently I have the i7 with a hd 6870 card. never below 200 fps in action, super high quality.

You shouldn't have to spend a fortune to get good graphics. The video cards aren't the biggest thing, it's all processor.

I would guess ... a 5770. I ran it on a 6850 with a stock clock x4 955 and got 120 easy.
