Yo any running enthusiasts here? Iv been running since a year now. Been enjoying it a lot. It's good for health and also for mental fortitude.
Last year i did 54 mins 10k
This year i did 44 mins 10k
and
1:43 half marathon
Aiming for 41 min 10k and 1:39 half marathon next summer.
It's such a beautifull sport. U dont need equipment, pretty much only shoes and somewhat okay shorts and shirt.
What's your routine for training guys? Iv been running 3 times a week, one 10k with a little bit of stairs through it, intervals 5k (40 seconds fast, 40 seconds slow), and a 15k on the weekend. Paid off so far.

Personally under 5k is my weakness, my legs are hurting a little. After 5k, thats where for me it's at. My legs are fine and i can focus. I dont know, i usually go into some kind of brainless phase. (i try to focus on nothing and let it go)
This morning i ran the first 5k in 23 mins and the second in 21 mins.
I feel im born for long distance.
I might try to do a marathon one day if my knees let me do it.

I love running, about 5 years ago I did my first and only half marathon at 1:52 (which I was honestly a little dissapointed with given how much I had trained, I choked on the last mile!). Sinec then I just run 5km or 10kms but never really bothered timing. Perhaps I'll start, it's fun to measure improvement.

I really liked competing in it at my school but it's not as fun to do alone. Interval training is great for improving your conditioning but my lord is it hard.

I run Cross Country and my best 3 mile time is a 20:54
My training routine is fairly simple and it can be summarized into 3 easy steps:
1. Build Leg and Lung Strength - This can be done by running hills and doing basic work outs on your lower half of your body. The lung strength comes from just running and building your lung capacity.
2. Build Speed - Run on a treadmill for 5 minutes on a decently fast speed (mines 10 MPH) and then do a brisk jog for another 5. Repeat and that will help your legs turn over and also help build lung capacity
3. Run Distance - Get used to running great distances. If you need to run a certain distance, train by running further distances. It helps mentally and physically.
I do this about 4-5 times a week.
I'm not the best runner at my school but I'm working hard to improve greatly and with this routine I've improved my times by around a minute and a half over this past month alone.
Happy running!

running is awesome, I can barely reach 10k tho, also stopped running since going to gym now instead
but ye, summer runs are the best thing
can't believe people find it boring, I just listen to a random album back to back in process, works great for me
any strava users can pm me and we can add each other there

I love running, but I can't really do anything during junior year right now coz of an ACL tear. Can't wait to see how much my times have gone to shit during senior year lol.

My dad has run something like 30ish marathons including the Boston Marathon. I was never really into long distance running but I would go to the occasional 5k or 10k with him.
My best time for a 5k was 19:24 and my 10k was around 54ish minutes I want to say. I can't do any weight lifting due to back and wrist injuries so I can really only do running and even then it's iffy with my back. Last year I used to just run two miles on a treadmill and then do ab work,

Its not how far, it's how much do you have to run. The answer is a lot.

i run track but i'm probably going to do cross country as well next year. I practice around once a week during the off season as theres a track about 5 mins away from me and then i go to all the conditionings that my school does before the season starts + the daily practices when the seasons starts
its fun

atleast in my school these are all generally thought to be really good, idk about the 5k tho but i would imagine that thats also a good time

if you are just starting out just keep adding a little distance on every run and your earlier runs will seem less like death. personally i found after a couple times doing 10k, doing the 1/2 marathon wasn't any more difficult, just meant adjusting pace to allow for recovery.
or do HIIT and every run will feel like death but you'll progress nicely.

Was running for my College, recently quit due to time constraints.
Best Times:
5k-17:35
8k-29:30
800-2:18
1200-5:04.80
If I was at my best typically longest easy run was 8 to 9 miles, long runs 10 to 11. And then sprints, repeats, and other hard workout shit.

Those are pretty decent times, kinda curious where you went to highschool if those weren't considered decent. My 17:35 only came at the end of my senior year, but I was still able to make varsity for the first half of that year running low 18's on a team that currently has won states I think twice now.

Yeah sorry if I wasnt clear I was good at the 400 but not very good at the 800
Small schools in my area of NY are surprisingly decent and my 800 and 5k times were pretty far off of championship worthy. I could place at local meets but most of the championships in the area I was usually just in like the top 20, and didnt even come close to the top at invitationals. That was also a big personal record for me at a big meet and most of the time I was around 18:30
As an example, this is a local championship meet from a year I didnt run XC and most of these schools have less than 100 per class: http://ny.milesplit.com/meets/222227/results/412525/raw#.V-koL_krKHs
However I did medal at division 2 states in the 400 and the 4x400
I just always ran 5ks as a kid and thought it was what I was good at and I used to be really skinny and not very strong. Come senior year of highschool, I was just getting worse at distance events so I decided to mix it up and found success.
There are some fast kids on this website though we could make a gnarly team

The term you're looking for is "Alpha state" basically you give up on alertness/concentration etc, and you feel relaxed cause you're just running and don't really have to worry about anything else.
