In my meteorology class today, we talked a little bit about a few projected paths of the hurricane actually. 2 computer models showed the hurricane actually going back and visiting Florida a second time, but there was also tropical storm (I think?) Nicole that was brewing in the relative area. My prof said that there was also a possibility of Matthew going out after it hits the Southeast coast to meet Nicole and "do a dance" in the sense that the 2 storms weren't going to directly collide, but instead circle around each other.
Still, hope everyone that's in the path of this stays safe.

My parents had to evacuate today. Hopefully, it isn't that bad in Orlando
8am Friday is gonna be a shit show for sure in the Melbourne area. I'm prepared as a life-long Florida man with supplies and the mental preparedness. My shutters though, I don't even wanna think about it. That's the only thing I'm actually worried about right now. I'm not in an evacuation zone apparently, so there's always that.
trippasaamyou forgot that trip also welcomes the sweet embrace of death so it's really a win-win for him

Really playin that fear mongering lmao
I mean usually yeah but some people really need to hear that shit. So many dumb ass people stay in their houses for stuff like this then cause huge problems for the people who have to come and rescue them.

I live just directly southeast of Jacksonville. My cat and computer are at my house while me and my entire family are in Georgia/south Carolina for a wedding this weekend. My parents wouldn't bring the cat because they thought it would be fine, just gave it a shitton of food and water. My house is fucked. My computer is fucked. Even if my computer wasn't near a window (it's presumably in sight of one) the damage Matthew can potentially create could fuck my entire room up regardless. I have the money to replace my computer, but not my cat. Nobody can get her because everyone is evacuated. Gone are all my video files too. All my work and everything on my hard drives.
I'm good at staying calm but fuck if my head isn't spinning 30 ways to Sunday thinking about the worst possible scenario. This is devastating.
If my house is fucked, everything is fucked. I have a large family tree and my parents make enough money for us to live somewhere else and get by. But my cat could die, even if she doesn't she's going to be terrified beyond despair. I can't make videos for a long time. I can't play competitive anymore. All my belongings i didnt bring with me to georgia destroyed. My parents did all the lockdown stuff they could before they left, but with a hurricane this strong who knows what good that will do. Holy fuck

wolsneDo your best to stay calm friend, the storm has already weakened to a category 3, and it's between Vero Beach, and Melbourne right now. It's likely to weaken more before approaching St. Augustine/Jax and unless you live within 1/2 mile of the beach you wont see flash flooding/storm surge probably, and the winds will likely not be strong enough to rip your roof/windows off. More likely than not, all of your belongings will be safe because the storm is expected to veer off into the atlantic and not make eye-wall landfall within your area.
Thank you, I will try to sleep
Edit: YOU LIAR YOU GODDAMN LIAR

As long as there's some protected room in your house, your cat should be fine. Hiding is what they're best at.

if your cat is inside I wouldnt worry too much about it. She'll find a nice hiding spot when she hears things starting to get rough. Cats are amazingly resilient.

wolsneHoping Funke will check in, the only images shown on the news are awful flooding along the beach, but I can't image inland got it too bad.
He's ok, he's over in South Carolina for a wedding and understandably freaking out about whether or not he has a home to return to.

Howdy friends! Melbourne area reporting in, wasn't as bad as it was expected to end up. Reported gusts broke 100, but otherwise remained at 50 and 3 inches of rain. I lost power at like 3:40am Friday and got it back 9:08pm today. My shutters (finding out now it's actually Storm Stoppers) managed to disappoint with this window actually falling off the window around 6am Friday. One tree down and one lamp post down around the neighborhood, but not much else other than small branches and leaves everywhere. Nothing awful, but I haven't driven around town yet.
Here's hoping Funke's place faired better with the reports of flooding I've been reading!
