I think he is rather asking for technical side of spectating though.

the only two people mentioned that aren't still around are lange, who quite clearly explained why he would be leaving and would still be a great person for thorin to talk to, and cbear who I'm not quite sure about why he left but he still sticks around for toth. also neither of them mentioned themselves it was someone else saying to contact them so what the actual fuck are you talking about

Not sure how many people know this but I did production/cam for ESEA S13-16, CEVO, TotH 2013-2014, and eXtv.
Getawhale is kind of throwing punches but I think it's mostly due to how often it seems the community overshadows more active members of the TFTV staff such as mathsad, davidthewin, and all of the current producers and casters. While LANs are vital and absolutely amazing, the online casts are what help keep people in the know between those big events. There's not much shine for the time spent on online production, but as someone who did it for years, I know how much they care about the game.
I was the guy rotting away during the quickfix LAN.
idk why this is a big deal he'll just be asking to get the perspective of people who have experience producing for a 12 player class based competitive fps before. Plus if anyone is confused as to why dashner is being recommended so much and not other super active people, remember dashner has experience producing for online and lan, plus experience producing for overwatch so he's covered on all bases thorin would want to know about
'' how spectating was done? ''
we still do. TF2 is dead for Thoorin

I had sent Thorin a message on fb a while back, and he asked me about TF2 spectating last night. Good to see he's looking for a bit more perspective from our scene.

I generally stay out of this kind of stuff but I feel the need to say something here.
I'm going to take a guess and say that one of the people you're referring to is me. I say this because, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who responded to Thorin's tweet that stepped back from the community without saying a word.
To provide context, I was first mentioned by someone and then responded to the tweet.

Yes, I did leave the TF2 community without saying a word, and I apologize for that. The reason I stepped away is because I took at job at Next Generation Esports a couple months ago to work on their creative team. I contemplated saying something about leaving at the time, but for whatever reason I convinced myself not to and have regretted it since. If I could still be involved with TF2 I would be, I sadly just don't have the time anymore.
Even though other people such as dashner, mathsad, lange, david, truktruk, etc. could certainly explain spectating TF2 with more depth and clarity than myself, I don't see the issue in me at least offering assistance.
If I'm wrong and you weren't in part referring to me, then I genuinely apologize.

complete offtopic, but watching overwatch gives me cancer because so much shit is happening all over.

i still don't think overwatch is actually competitively viable and spectating is still not great but after i played about 10 hours of the game everything started making sense. the sound cues are a big deal in that game and tell you a lot about whats going on
it's not as easy to sit down and watch as csgo is but its certainly no worse than tf2 is
