Wow...that's a shame. They were the beginning of what we know as streaming.
However, in a way, it's a sign of good things happening. It shows that there is a lot of competition in the community for a good quality place to stream and that the number of streamers/viewers is growing constantly and they could not keep up with the demand (whether that be server/man-power/advertisement wise). It's quite obvious as well that Twitch has grown tremendously and I'm sure John could attest to that.

I always found their streams much worse than twitch. Also they owe numerous people several months worth of ad revenue. Shitty organization, good riddance.

They won't, most likely, unless specific game companies (like Activision) pay them to be. They have nothing to gain from hosting live streaming, and if anything it only taxes their servers more for no more profit.

youtube already has live streaming. There have already been dota games streamed on youtube. it is inevitable that they eventually are open to the greater public, imo.

No, I realize that, but I think that was because the specific game companies wanted to use them as a service and paid them? I could be wrong though. Talking about stuff like COD TV :P

Competition is good for any industry. If I had to say anything about this, I would thank them for giving us competition and motivation to improve and grow. Own3d provided days upon days of entertainment to a lot of people. Your goal is always to beat the competition, but that doesn't mean that you want to see somebody fail.
