I am strongly considering buying this laptop, but I am skeptical of the graphics card (gtx 960) and the display, which some people say is not that good. I want to play tf2 and overwatch at at least 100 fps, will this computer be able to do that?

Why not just build a computer that can run those two games with the money you would spend on a laptop?

This should be able to run these games at 10 fps especially if you use a graphics config in tf2.

Well of course it's good but it's just expensive for what your getting. You can easily build a pc with those same specs for less. But it's all up to you.

What great answers

The laptop is fine and the price is decent but it will probably be a brick, thermal throttle, and have a bettery life of 20 mins
You should definitely be able to get 100 fps is you are willing to settle for inferior settings

If you know the risks then go for it

I would hover around /r/buildapcsales if you're looking for a decent one. For that price you could probably find a much better laptop for the same price. Like this one has a legitimate 1060 3GB in it (not m, which are much worse than the basic cards).
$900

To answer your question, the computer you posted may not run overwatch at 100fps. It might be able to, but I wouldn't count on it. If you're dropping $800-1000 on a laptop you can get a better one that can hit 100fps easily and play other games too.

Someone using a 960m in overwatch with medium/low settings getting around 70fps @1080p (thought it looks capped at 70 so idk). They have a better CPU than the computer you listed as well.

hey guys, im really not looking for a desktop. My parents are split and live in two different houses so I move around a lot, and would like a laptop that I could game on fairly decently. Valid answers like jdms are very nice. If this laptop isnt good, then can you guys recommend some better ones? thanks!

I don't exactly know your situation but you could build a mini itx pc which is much smaller than normal tower cases and is much more ideal for travelling (many lan players use these).

If you wanted to, you could build a $600 mini itx compuer to move around and spend $100-200 on like a chromebook for schoolwork, internet browsing, etc.

Now, if you're moving around like crazy and moving around essentially a box and your monitor & peripherals is too much, let's talk about just a laptop. The laptop you chose has the processor ability equivalence of a Haswell Pentium G3258 from Intel. The 960m is not to be mistaken with the gtx 960 as it as not nearly the amount of power. The 960m has the performance of the old 650 ti. Knowing this I was able to find out that you most definititely would be able to play TF2 at least a 100 fps, more if you have the right config.

BUT I found a better laptop and might I suggest this
This laptop is better than the one you have listed, despite not having the ssd.
It comes with:

  1. i7-6700HQ (better than desktop processors such as the skylake i3-6100 and the haswell i5-4460) -- this is a really good laptop processor --- good for tf2
  2. 1 TB Hard drive --- not as fast as the ssd in the laptop you chose, but you get more storage.
  3. GTX 960M --- same video card as the laptop you chose
  4. 8 GB of RAM --- same amount as laptop you chose
  5. YOU SAVE $230, $60 CHEAPER THAN LAPTOP YOU CHOSE --- much cheaper than your laptop

All hardware judgements were made using userbenchmark.com -- real human benchmarks on hardware

I would suggest reading the reviews of any laptop before you buy make sure the majority of the reviews are good (there will be a few that are just unlucky), and the majority of the ones from the laptop I chose are good.

I spent like a half an hour making this so I hope I could be of some help to you. To be honest when you said your parents were split it kind of made me a little sad because it's the holiday season ya know and I realize I'm fortunate enough to have a full blown family to spend the holiday season with, so I figured I should put my knowledge and help someone out a little extra tonight. This was the best laptop I found and it's got an exceptional deal on it so I let you know. By all means you can continue to look for better ones but if I were you I would pick this up, as the deal ends in a few days.

That laptop can definitely run tf2 near 200 fps with a graphics config, I speak from experience, although, for the same price you could get this http://m.costco.com/Dell-Inspiron-15-Gaming-7000-Series--Laptop---Intel-Core-i7---1080p---4GB-NVIDIA-Graphics.product.100310707.html

this one seems pretty nutty for its price right now

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234023&cm_re=gaming_laptop_960m-_-34-234-023-_-Product

yeah I actually got this one, didn't feel like I needed to spend 1k so this seemed like a decent compromise. thanks for the link to that subreddit helped a lot

This really helps a lot. I will look into both the msi laptop and the mini itx pc. Thank you so much! :D

a lot of people in this thread are underestimating the modern day power and cooling in laptops these days. if you need a laptop this thing will perform well with the games you listed and likely wont run too hot. you can definitely find better for 1 grand tho
