Idk what size venues people are thinking of here, but ive been to the Congress Centre in Missisauga a few times now and while probably too big for just a tf2 lan if tgere was more going on at once one of those halls might be worth checking out? Its also conveniently right beside the airport and a short bus ride from a the metro.
megawacI vote anything but Jan/Feb and getting a hall would be pretty sweet. Also I could bring a couple people from kW/Guelph when details are figured out
Btw there is https://lantastic.ca/ in a couple weeks in waterloo
I looked at LANtastic around late August, and I didn't boither contacting them because there weren't many seats available even then, and there wouldn't have been enough time for me to put together any amount of prizing to make it worth people's while. Also commuting outside of Toronto is difficult to me, as I'll explain further down.
delpoI would be interested in attending an Ontario lan :]
Don't know about byoc though, I'm paranoid.
Unless you're planning to fly with your PC, there isn't any severe danger to your PC as long as you keep it at arm's reach at all times. While I haven't carried my computer on the TTC yet, I've carried much larger objects (And cakes) on the TTC without any damage to those things.
sibbyowlcomethaving one near downtown toronto would be pretty swell too, easy to commute down there for most people, though im not sure if there are any venues that are suitable. pls no byoc.
Inner-city venues are really only well-accessed by those either near TTC or know the city and can drive well here. Otherwise it's a straight up pain in the ass to commute from outside Toronto into the city, not even mentioning parking. However, relative to driving to Philly or Chicago, it's doable.
As for BYOC, Hunter & Lucas, the venue I had been using for the previous Toronto LANs had computers set up and that's what people played on. However, that venue is closed as of writing this, so that is not an option for a venue.
-protoa lan in guelph would not bring nearly as many people out as a lan in toronto, im shocked at the number of people thinking it would be a good place to host a lan. id imagine we could have twice the people if it was hosted in a core gta city like toronto or mississauga.
My issue with LANs outside Toronto is that I rely almost entirely on public transit (I am living pretty much independently right now), so to get to and from venues at the times that I did during the LANs at Hunter & Lucas would be impossible to do if I relied on less frequent service outside Toronto.

The Toronto Congress Centre would be too big, unless we're aiming for a LAN bigger than GXL. On top of that, it's expensive. Anime North, who books the Toronto Congress Centre in May, also books conference rooms in nearby hotels, which is what they use for their gaming tournaments, as they are more appropriate size-wise, and you don't have to battle your way through seas of cosplayers to get in (Well, not as badly as the TCC or around it, at least).
Events that I've emailed so far (Feel free to suggest more)
- LANWAR X (Never got back to me)
- Good Game Con
- Anime North
- EGLX

Is there a general time frame for when this would be? During school year or during summer?
Should I go through with organizing an independent event, I'm looking at early June. If I piggyback on another event, it'd depend on that event.

There are a LOT of tf2ers coming to anime north from all over the states so if you did one there then it'd gather a lot of eyes probably

I'd really rather not have to step foot inside an anime convention in order to play tf2

I assume costumes will be required for the LAN if this is the case? Bonus points if you play in said costume, especially if it involves massive hand attachments preventing you from clicking one button at a time.
Would there be any advantage/disadvantage to the timeline including a holiday?

didnt animenorth hold the fighting games in a completely separate building (some hotel i think?)
just assume it will be true for tf2 as well

also what happened to ETS. it used to be the shit for tf2 players back in the day and legal drinking age is 18 in quebec

Apparently the amounts of votes towards a TF2 competition were attained through ballot stuffing (also, somebody posted it on reddit or something, garnering more votes than actual players interested in attending), & barely anybody showed up the actual TF2 event.

I would be 100% interested in going to an event in Toronto,
Glad to see there's still interest. I am currently working on some sweet graphics and scouting out venues. I am currently aiming for early September. I have pushed the date from June as I had said to people earlier due to health and work.
I would possibly come out of tf2 retirement for this
I would possibly fly out to Toronto again for this, just to see Conky.
id come if it was a BYOC tourney and a legit round robin tourney, otherwise the event is kinda meh
If we can get enough people to have pugs or even a tourney id go, I always wanted to go to a LAN and this is closest so it works perfectly, doesn't school start again by September though so some teens wouldn't be able to go?
I just want a LAN that I don't need to drive 8 hours to get to lol
IDK if you've considered renting a hall/auditorium from a College or University. I work at Sheridan (Brampton) and I know for a fact there are plenty of rooms that can be booked for events which are big enough. You could also get in touch with the video game clubs and maybe even get the space for free. Keep in mind this would be BYOC. They also can give every person guest access to their network making a LAN easy to set up. Also Sheridan's internet is super fast compared to other Universities/Colleges.
sibbsany updates on a future toronto lan
I totally missed these posts since I haven't been checking up on here as much as I used to. I don't have any updates currently.

Yes, people affiliated with a college or university can get steep discounts on spaces on their respective campuses. If you are eligible for booking discounts at Sheridan, please let me know. Most preferably, if anyone is currently enrolled or affiliated with York, U of T, Ryerson, or George Brown, please PM me on Steam or Discord so we can talk.
