this is shitpost, don't read it, totally without reason, I just got little drunk, I will remove it after I wake up.
Like, honestly, I know that there are only few cancer/toxic tf2 players, but they are the ones most heard. Why would you want to be cancer/toxic? TF2 is still just a game, made to have fun and enjoy time spent on it, it doesn't matter if you are playing with a shitty player, you are still playing the game and you should enjoy it and if you are not enjoying it you can always just quit the game. If you are getting angry that someone is not doing something that they should either say them what they are doing wrong (don't be a douche while saying it) or quit.
The thing that boils my blood is the players that proceed to shit talk others just because they are worse. Like, wtf, there will always be someone worse and someone better. If someone is worse than you, give them tips how to get better and don't discourage them from playing. The thing this game needs least is fewer players playing it.
And I am not just talking about the shit talking. Players should not care about the scores that much. Logs mean shit, even more do the mges. You are not better player than someone else just because you have better stats than them, you are not better player than someone else just because you beat them on mge. Mge's are here to train the aim and even if you win against someone, it doesn't mean shit.
For the other side, if anyone is shit talking you while in comp game, the best way to approach this is to bookmark the exact moment and look at it after the game. You will have plenty time to watch it multiple times and think if you have really done something bad or if you just had shitty teammates that like to shit talk others.
And for everyone, try to think if you might not be slightly toxic sometimes, look at your actions from the perspective of other players. Having more welcoming community will help this game more than anything else imho. And I am not even talking about situations where you being an ass might change someone's life to worse because they are not feeling mentally good lately.

I've found that people who spam binds after they kill someone are usually doing it because they think it's impressive that they killed them.
That is, they found it noteworthy that they were able to kill whoever they're harassing. They're intimidated. They're small people.

Can't say I disagree, but there's no word wall big enough to keep people from doing it. If they cared about what you thought, they wouldn't be toxic in the first place. All you can do is avoid being toxic as best you can.

Besides, honestly, I can't help but wonder if the toxicity in pugs isn't a good thing; it pushes people towards actual teams where they can reliably play with people they like.

Tbh idk why all these people complain about our community being 'elitest' or whatever, neither me nor a single friend I've spoken to experienced much toxicity when they came up into leagues and stuff back in 2015 (but a fair amount after that voncerning other things), so unless things changed drastically in one year, maybe it's just your attitude or you're just talking to the wrong people?

getting vocally angry at a new player wastes time in comms and will only make him play worse or not want to play at all due to feeling like a burden imo
best thing to do when he makes a mistake is be cool tell him what he did wrong, not scream at him

maybe you just got lucky. or maybe the problem lies in the fact that you're talking about leagues. ive tried to introduce friends into competitive twice. its hard to get people into teams from the get go. Lots of people dont want to play on teams at all, and with pure pub experience people get shit on hard in lobbies.
lobbies, or something like them, are what the vast majority of potential players want out of a competitive game. its why valve's cheater infested joke of a competitive system with its garbage ruleset has been so detrimental. its why people complain about toxicity so much; the people trying to play faceit and tf2c all day get terrible experiences every other game. seriously, faceit has its share of russian trolls, but people who come try to make an honest effort out of their pub experience get told to leave and not come back. on fucking faceit. people dont want to commit to anything in a video game, they just want to be able to occasionally play a serious game whenever they feel like it, and that's nearly impossible to do in tf2 without spending at least one season on a team.

there's no effective solution to this besides "get enough new players to let them play each other constantly," so good luck with that

On a side note, as a fresh meat player it sucks when better opposition in scrims goof around and play off classes to mid.
I know it can be fun but it really doesn't help the new players youre up against and they ll learn nothing from it. I guess you have no obligation to newer players but it's nice to be helpful right ? And in the long term new player improvement helps keep comp tf2 alive.
