- You can equip item cards on to the Heroes that you buy with gold
- There are creeps that spawn every turn
- You can play creature cards
- Some cards are cast on the lane and have persistent effects on that lane
- Each Hero has abilities like their DotA counterparts ("You can cast track on a Hero as Bounty Hunter and get extra Gold")

The last singleplayer game they did dates back to 2011 (Portal 2) and their latest game overall was released 4 years ago (Dota 2). People always thought the 6 year timespan between Half-Life and Half-Life 2 was long, but the last Half-Life game was released almost 10 years ago and it is well on its way to beat Duke Nukem Forever which was released 14 years after its announcement.
And yet this is what they come up with after all those years. It makes me sad to see what valve has become.
