maybe a little weird of a topic, but i have been kind of stressed out and sad the last few days and i want to vent in some way. what is a song that has some personal value to you and why? can be because of someone you know/an experience you had or just a song that moves you emotionally.
for me i would say this song called small talk pines, by an artist called les arbres: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfsrfWfMPDo
i was chilling outside with my dog last year studying french and i found this song. i remember petting her while i watched the leaves falling and blowing through the breeze. i have a lot of tall trees around my backyard so it really fit with the late autumn atmosphere, and it was just so quiet and peaceful. she died a few months ago and i feel like that was one of my best memories with her.

Photograph by Nickelback makes me think of the past, and all the people I moved away from. Some I had very close relationships with, but we lost contact due to distance. (this was before facebook)
Iron Man by Black Sabbath was the song I was listening to when I had my first Mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks. Since then, whenever I drink a Mocha Frappuccino, I always listen to Iron Man. It's like a tradition at this point.
Several Eminem songs from before 2005 always bring me back to a certain moment in my childhood when things were simple, easy, and I was able to just cuss at the world without any major consequences. Two key songs are The Real Slim Shady and My Name Is.
Rooster by Alice in Chains, and In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins, are both songs that my mother always used to listen to when I was growing up. She still listens to them, just not as often. They take me back to my childhood home in the 90's. The hot tub, the yard we used to have. The bar we had in the basement. It's just a giant moment of nostalgia for me.
And finally, the Hamster Dance Song. That song reminds me of my old crazy friend, and how she'd always force me to listen to that stupid song. Same with Hilary Duff songs. They make me think of her, and the relationship we used to have. Nothing romantic or whatever, just childhood memories of us playing video games, playing in the mud outside (she was a huge tomboy), or catching june bugs in my front yard at night in front of the old birch tree. Oh, and the fireflies too. I actually just checked Google Maps, and apparently the new owners cut down the tree. Bastards.
Edit: Got two more.
Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles always makes me think of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N Roses always makes me think of my father, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I remember sitting in front of his plasma TV when the GTA commercial came on, and that song was featured in it. My dad was there, and everything just felt "warm".

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol reminds me of my first job at Pizza Hut. It must have been popular at the time and would come on the radio in the kitchen. I remember how we would all nonchalantly say to eachother "I think I'll just lay here, guys."
Total Eclipse of the Heart reminds me of driving around with my old roommate. She would sing Bonnie Tyler's part and I would do the male backup vocals.
Of course classic frag video music reminds me of my early TF2 days. Especially the songs from Bloodsire's pyro video. Those really get the nostalgia flowing.
Dream Theater's Images and Words album reminds me of a girl I was with last year. I just happened to put that album on rotation on my phone and was listening to it a lot at that time and now when I hear it I think of Korean BBQ and hot pot and late nights at the beach.

A lot of Fred V and Grafix tracks hold a special place for me. Major Happy, Constellations (both the original and one from Forza Horizon 3), and Long Distance to name just a few really bring back a lot of memories
- My Old School by Steely Dan
Three years ago I went through a massive classic rock phase, and Steely Dan easily became my favorite band from that era (and still are). But, also around that time, I got into my first relationship. For some reason I was listening to this song on repeat around the time me and my first girlfriend started dating, and now whenever I hear it I get immediately transported back to that summer.
- The Telling Truth by Coheed and Cambria
When the relationship with my first girlfriend fell apart (we broke up exactly 3 years ago today coincidentally) I was extremely angry and depressed. I got backstabbed by someone who I thought was my friend and felt utterly lost. Coheed had been my favorite band for a while now, but I never really had gotten into this album. But, around this time I got my licence and started driving, which became an escape and I would wander around listening to music. My car is old as fuck, so it can only play CDs, so naturally I wanted to own all of Coheed's discog on CD to play. One day I put GA1 in, and it never left my stereo for like 6 months. Being so incredibly angry, this song really spoke to me, but it also inspired me to play guitar much more seriously than I had been. I learned the song with a couple friends of mine and it became the first song I ever learned all the way through. This drive to learn music has since led me to pursuing a career in music composition, and I plan to go to some music school after getting my AA next year.
- Freak Machine by Ben Levin Group
I found this song last year when I was feeling really alone and lost in the world. A lot of my friends were going through a bunch of shit, and I felt even more powerless because I couldn't help them. That's basically what this song is about, the feeling of isolation and loneliness; longing for some sort of human connection. It was also my introduction to Ben Levin and his music.
- Dead Horse by Bent Knee
Around late May of this year I started dating my aforementioned ex again. It was great, the three years apart were really good to the both of us. Unfortunately, circumstances would have it that we weren't meant to date at the time. I remember dropping her off at her house after realizing that this great relationship wasn't going to work out and this song came on. I played it on repeat the entire way home, and it still pains me whenever I listen to it.
- Look Away by The Dear Hunter
When me and my ex had to go our separate ways, this song really stood out to me and I started playing it on repeat as I left her house. The message of "no matter how hard life sucks I can pick myself back up" was, and still is my mindset moving forward from that relationship. Also, in mid July I went to a musician's summer camp hosted by this band, and it was honestly the most magical experience of my entire life. After a month of dealing with the breakup camp was the first time I felt like myself again, and one of the best friends I made there bonded with me for our love of this song. Basically it just reminds me that shit's gonna be okay :)

Pretty much anything Courtney Love. more specifically this song;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qYof9tyHEY
My mom loves Courtney Love and I remember listening to her a lot in the car as a child and when I hear Courtney Love (not that I think she's all that great) it puts my mind at ease and reminds me of better times.

This song envelops the feeling i get when my life is going from "almost perfect" into "shitshow" almost perfectly - Pennines - Pilot Holes
And this one is, from "shitshow" into "almost perfect" -Ride - Today
But probably the most important song in my life is this one - The Smiths - This Charming Man, it changed my life.

every year I go up to this summer camp in the mountains to hang out near a lake for a week. every other night there are these campfires, where the staff preform skits and songs. during the last few days, we sing songs that we've sung every year, including this one. the one i sing at camp is a bit different, but has the same lyrics. every time i hear something similar to this, my mind goes back instantly to the good times and friends at this camp :)

Met the most amazing girl in Europe, found this song the night I had to say goodbye forever. I hardly ever listen to it because I don't want the feeling to ever change. It makes me happier than just about anything else.

there's a lot of songs, albums and artists I got really into in my last two years of high school that bring back memories but listening to flamenco sketches by miles davis on the night of my graduation ties a lot of it in for me as a closer

My sister killed herself. All through the time I knew her, she seemed so cool. she was smart, funny, and she always seemed to know what to say in any situation. She was actually my sister in law, in a relationship with my brother. They met online, and she moved 3 states to get away from her family, regardless i will always think of her as my sister. for 4 years she lived here and it was great, she had her own problems with drugs but once she got away from her family, she didnt use anymore.
All of this changed when her mother moved up here because she "missed" her. It was bullshit, her mother couldn't stand that she was happy, drove her insane. She came up here, gave my sister prescription painkillers and told her she should kill herself to be happy. She told my sister that if she ended it all, she would too and meet her in heaven where they could be happy together. when this was put on top of her medical problems, it became too much for her.
6 months or so after her mother moved here, I was over at their house and i was playing some racing game on my brother's xbox. we were hanging out in the downstairs. We heard this extremely loud bang noise, like someone had tipped over a huge dresser. Being the paranoid my brother is, he insisted that someone had broken in and was upstairs, so he grabbed his gun. I grabbed a machete. We go up the stairs and break into her room, she had shot herself in the head with a handgun.
My brother had a breakdown, and I mostly hid how I felt. Heather always talked about how she was scared people would forget her when she died, and that was her biggest fear. She loved classic rock, and classic country music. Always had some playing softly in their house, I don't really have memories of her without some kind of music playing in the background.
her favorite song was free bird. to this day every time I hear the song or think of it it reminds me of her. I don't believe in an afterlife, but if there is I hope that she knows I will never forget her, and that I remember her as she was, not how she went.
I will always remember her

this is the song that made me want to learn the bass guitar. its a pretty easy song, but it made me realize bass doesn't have to be some background instrument, and playing it has been a pretty big part of my life for the last 10 years

my dad is extremely into guitar playing and he plays this song all the time, loud enough to where everyone in the house could hear (he wouldn't do this when my mom is home). when I moved out, I listened to deep purple's machine head a lot because it somewhat eased my homesickness. highway star has the best guitar solo
