hi. i've been getting lower fps recently. it's been happening in scrims, matches, mge, dm, casual, you name it. i wouldn't consider it fps drops, but rather lower fps in general.
for example, i'm watching a fight on badlands via spectator, and i only have 100 fps. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1204659403
for reference, here's my specs:
i5 7600k
msi nvidia geforce gtx 1070
16 gb ram
gigabyte z270p-d3 mobo
this pc is very new. i've read about performance problems in casual recently, with random drops. this has been happening to me as well. only casual, though.
as a side note: i have checked for overheating problems, and the parts retain a low temperature.

Sadly, TF2 doesn't cooperate with high end PC parts.

You didn't mention what settings you're using, but with newer hardware you're actually better off running your TF2 at max settings as opposed to using an FPS config.since max settings will put some of the load off your CPU and onto your GPU.

I use a modified Comanglia config which actually keeps my frames at a stable 40+ fps.
(Don't know if you meant to quote the other guy or....)

I am using Mastercoms’s config with no preset, which is basically default settings excluding mat_phong 0 (I don’t prefer shiny objects).

I know a few people that have similar parts to yours, and their game runs like shit in dx8 but amazingly in dx9

On my crappy PC TF2 would run better on dx8. I use dx95 on this pc and it’s much better.

idk if this'll fix it but it works for me
go into yr sound folder in tf2 and delete sound.cache
whenever i start dropping frames I do that and it seems to fix it for some reason

What are your launch options? Also, keep in mind that the net_graph reduces your FPS. A less intensive option for measuring FPS would be cl_showfps 1.

if you dont overclock feel free to add me or msg me if you want help because overclocking will help increase your fps once your config issues are sorted out.

-novid -nojoy -nosteamcontroller -noff -nohltv -softparticlesdefaultoff -reuse -swapcores -threads 4 -high -nouserclip -w 1920 -h 1080
i usually don't use net_graph or cl_showfps, i put it on for the screenshot

Don't use -threads at all, as it's only useful if you have 6 cores or more. -threads specifies the number of worker threads, which are additional threads to the 2 threads the engine already uses. By using -threads 4, you are telling the engine to use a total of 6 threads, which will overwork your CPU. Using any value below -threads 4 is useless, as the engine automatically allocates up to 3 additional threads according to your hardware, so just remove the launch option.
Also, I would recommend setting your resolution inside the game's video settings and removing -w and -h, as they are known to mess with the material system's performance.

I added the resolution launch options a while back when I used dx8 and it would automatically use the lowest 16:9 resolution. I’m still not sure as to what is causing this performance decrease.

But what about the -threads option?
Also, resolution changes if you keep the -dxlevel option in, instead of adding it for first launch and then removing it.
