I think you can ONLY meet real friends online my dude, I've met my girlfriend online, all my closest friends, and people that are important to me.
its as real as you make it, if you think its not then they're not "real" to you, but if you feel actual connections and have actual friendships then it is. its up to you to determine

I think it's depended what you do with your friend, and who you define as real friend
for me friend is someone who I spend time actively almost daily, and who I can trust to talk about a lot of things, whereas I think online/rl people who I talk/play with from time to time as buddies.

I used to think e friends weren't real until I got a bit older. Once you move away from school friends, it's just as easy to see your online ones as it is your old friends and once you've met em a few times it feels pretty real
