Ok, so every season it happens where a few people in the community loses their shit, gets their panties in a bunch and blows up the forums with threads/posts like "X map sucks so bad!!! ZOMG!!! Last too hard to push!!! VOTE OUT VOTE OUT!!!! Y map looks so good!!! Definitely better than map X!!!! VOTE IN VOTE IN!!!" So the majority of the community then looks at this post and thinks, ya that one map is not the greatest, and this guys says this map is so good. I guess I'll vote it in too to go with everyone else.
This cannot continue to happen. We are wasting time voting out maps, and replacing them with maps that maybe 1-2 teams have actually try-hard scrimmed before. Pug's do not reveal true flaws in maps. People don't pull really gay strat's out in pugs, and alot of people off-class as well.
All this said, this is not a rant about how bad ashville is or is not. I haven't scrimmed it yet, so I won't give an uninformed opinion on it. This posts purpose is to try to get people to not be so hasty to remove maps and vote in new ones next time map vote comes around.

I feel map variety is essential to keep the game alive.
The same maps every season would get extremely stale.

Playing bad maps is not the kind of variety I want, and warmfront/coldfront was in the rotation for a long time, and was a perfectly acceptable map. There was no reason to remove aside from a bunch of whiny players who couldn't figure out a strategy to push last.

should vote out cp_ashville and put warmfront back in, holy shit cp_ashville is horrible.

Maybe current map makers should submit like 3-4 maps every off season, and then people take the time to actually scrim those maps, instead of scrimming badlands 1000x during the offseason. That way people can vote with knowledge that they acquired themselves instead of through what other people say.

3-4 maps every off season is a lot of work.
That being said there's always new maps being made but only a few people try and test them. Everyone else is just playing whats already in the esea map rotation.

Well the thing is, map makers dont have to make 3-4 NEW maps. just keep updating other maps maybe. and then we will try those versions out in scrims during offseason. I know for sure there are at least 4 maps out there designed for competitive play that.

or....you know. you could all support new map pugs every weekend and they could get to the point of having more than one pug going at the same time.
also the pug channels could organize one night tournaments for new maps so that people actually play in them
but the real bottle neck with the maps (other than player stupidity) is the fact that ESEA only allows us to change one map per season.

Killing, if I had the skill to make maps, I would. And scholar, as I said pugs aren't the same. People still go to new map pugs to have fun. And when you have fun you don't do the same things as when you want to win. Different strats come into play. We need a New Map Scrims or something, that teams can download candidate maps and scrim them. There are maps out there that need feedback, we just have to get teams to scrim them, and not just call them shit after one scrim. Give some actual constructive feedback

The thing is, UGC tried this "encouraging new maps" thing with season 7. But everyone just whined, and the maps received no real reviews, just a bunch of "OMG THIS IS TERRIBLE NEVER PLAY AGAIN" which gives mapmakers nothing to work with.

If I know what the voting pool is for next season a couple weeks before the vote, I'll host a mini cup on all the maps with a 150 dollar prize pool.

I don't think I have much to add, other than that PUGs are not the best way to figure out if a map will work in 6s. They only eliminate the worst maps.

I think one problem is the short duration and opaque nature of the map poll. If the options for replacement were released a week or two in advance, people would have time to try each map a few times and form their opinions. Instead, the vote-in poll is only revealed after the vote-out poll is done, which then lasts for only 2 or 3 days, meaning the only way to make an informed decision would be to have played the maps in advance (while the list was still unknown). I even played pugs on earlier versions of cp_ashville during s11/s12, and although it wasn't much different than it is now, the distance problems weren't apparent to me then (likely because I was messing around on scout). I scrimmed it with my team once in the offseason after it was voted in, and by the time I got to the first mid I was thinking "what have we done".
I don't think that any teams would have a problem scrimming new maps in the offseason if there was a list of 3-4 candidates to focus on for a few weeks. I think that this would also lead to more constructive feedback on new maps in an environment that isn't a low-level/offclassing pug -- rather than people approaching the map with the attitude "oh god, we have to play matches on this", they would come in thinking "let's see how this map goes". Even for maps that don't make the vote, this would give valuable feedback to the developer so he could revise his map for the next season, rather than have it buried under a pile of hate even after improving it (a la standin).
All that said, koth_gran s13.

more koth maps would be nice to see, but koth_gran isn't the case since there's the cp_granary already in the rotation

A lot of people don't vote in the map poll because they don't want to pay premium until right before their first matches.

This always comes down to the fact that no one fucking plays maps long enough pre-map voting to actually know if it's good or not. Tell me again, how long was koth_ashville played before cp_ashville, which was never played seemingly, was thrown into the vote?

Ok. Let's do this right now. I need 4 maps to put into the vote. Let's decide right now so you guys can scrim them and get a better idea if it's competitively viable.
