LAN made me want to play again, but Im so washed up I cant stand to put in the effort that I put in when I was actually ok at the game just to get back where I was 4 seasons ago. Shitting around in open sucks but the effort to be competitive in IM would take up so much of my free time its hard to justify

sorry if this is a bit unstructured, I wrote this on my phone and just wanted vent

i cant tell you for sure since i have no experience with shit like this but it kinda sounds like you have grounds to get help, if not from an online support system (eg childline in the uk) then for sure from a school Councillor or smth

Moving out will be a godsend for you.

I had a friend who went through a very similar experience - Asian parents, they hated him 'wasting his life playing video games'. He did extremely well in school, got his bachelors in medicine and even patented and sold a treatment for cancer, but his parents only focused on the fact the he played video games and basically disowned him. He felt hurt and guilty for a long time because his parent's didn't approve of him, which is very messed up.

Your parents sound to be in the wrong here, but if you're under their thumb there's not a whole lot you can do. I think it would be a good idea to try and talk to them about the very real benefits of gaming/building your own PC as well as the importance of having hobbies and not getting burnt out on school, but expect talking to them to be very hard/impossible. Still, I think it's your only option until you're able to move out on your own. If you're able to drive or can get picked up by friends, being out of the house often is a good idea. Maybe try picking up another activity they "approve of" like a sports team/chess club or whatever you enjoy. You'll have tons of freedom and time to do whatever you want in college, it sucks but gaming can probably wait. Best of luck, I'm sure things will be better in the future but for now you have to live through hell.

i cant get my meds adjusted or changed this month because i missed a SINGLE therapy appointment, they just want my money they dont care about me or my mental health at all its bullshit how in america if you want actual psychiatrtic care and dont have expensive insurance your only option is to literally threaten to kill yourself to get help at the cost of your rights freedom and dignity

u need to get some help. if u can secure a parenting system or a place to live or whatever, anything to live outside of your parents' place and eventually get back at them for mistreating you, you should grab whatever you own and beeline outta there with support on your side (i dunno how this all works in the us. there are child support things here but im not sure if they apply to you in the US)

1. I would point out to them that in 2 years you're going to move out on your own for university. You need to know how to make decisions for yourself so you should point out to them that, at 16, you ought to start experiencing *some* freedom, so that you can learn to make good decisions for yourself. Reassure them that they have taught you the right way to do things and that you won't fuck up.

2. Don't fuck it up. Actively do stuff and avoid letting them see you on the computer if they do relax at all, in fact I would encourage you to find good reasons to be home as little as possible. Demonstrate to them they don't have to take the computer with them because you won't use it. That'd be a good in.

3. Join a club or sport or team or *anything* this will further burden them (by having to keep track of you) and have the plus side of giving you outlets for things to do outside of school/homework, since I'm assuming you don't have a car.

4. Get a job. This will give you the money to have *some* independence and also will enable you to leave the house as often as possible, and you'll meet cool people. Have a cool friend with good internet? Sounds like that's a good place to go. Restaurants are always hiring high school aged kids. Cleaning and lawn care/landscaping companies do too. Depending on your state your school guidance counselor may also be able to find you work. For example in Indiana, most of the farmers and logging companies put work requests in *directly* to the schools, so all you have to do is go to the office and ask for a job and ye' shall receive. I took a summer job (through the school office) at 14 and spent 2 months of the summer (June-July) working for a logging company 1 1/2 hours from home living out of a trailer or tent (depending on how far afield we went to find logs). They didn't trust me with the heavy equipment, but I still worked and got paid a tidy 6$/hr (at the time minimum wage in the US was 5.15 so I was making bank in my eyes).

After that I took a job at McDonald's but it sucked way worse than logging, and so I applied at the land-fill as a shop hand, as the logging experience had taught me to operate some heavier equipment and to do basic tire repair (you would be amazed how often garbage trucks lose tires to nails and other stuff - basically every truck every run, and they need some poor idiot to change those giant tires). I worked weekends only until the summer, and stayed at the landfill until I went off to college (senior year, being unable to play sports anymore due to various injuries, I worked 3-8ish every day). Bought my own car, my own computer, and my own phone line (dial up internet). Was pretty great.

5. Depending on the state and your age, you can emancipate yourself virtually on demand. For example in Indiana the age of consent is 16, so after 16 you're considered an adult and can do whatever you please, furthermore all you have to do to is file a single piece of paperwork and as long as your parents cannot demonstrate that you'll be indigent (no job/will be immediately homeless/burden to society) or incompetent (unable to work), there is nothing they can do to stop it. I imagine that would permanently destroy your relationship with your parents, but if you have somewhere else you could live and can find gainful employment to offset the costs of not being supported by your parents it's an avenue to approach, it would probably also help you on your FAFSA.

So long as you are *not* emancipated you're basically beholden to your parents so long as they're not abusing you, and based on what you've written they are not in the state's eyes, and the best thing you can do is find as many ways to spend time out of the house as possible.

Worst case you could always do what my cousin did when his parents threatened to *force* him to go to a particular university that he didn't want to go to (an all boys school). He just called up the good The Few, The Proud, The Brave, the United States Marine Corps. He told them he would like to sign up, and had them send a recruiter to the house. Having a uniformed Marine in the house with paperwork to sign him up for an all expenses paid trip to Iraq put the fear of God in them and they came to their senses lol.

Also this fucking pump has run for 2 hours straight now, and the goddam hotel is booked up :( Guess I'll have ta' call my grandma she's got a spare bed lol.

@vulc

it sounds like your parents hate video games altogether for the wrong reasons (violence), but it could really be that they are just looking out for you in a realistic manner and they're just making violence an excuse, where they want you to have other interests than video games (not sure if you do). if you don't have other interests and do get your own computer, they are very likely right in that you'll waste a lot of time in your life

in the case that they don't want you to play video games because of violence and that is the only reason, you should probably try to educate them why it's really not that big of a deal, first by yourself, then from another adult, such as a counselor or something. probably won't do much, so marxist/raytek's advice is pretty solid.

in any case, it seems your parents want whats best for you and probably love you lol, in which case you shouldn't do anything that you'd regret a few years down the road, such as completely removing them from your life.

This goes far beyond simply looking out for your well being and into paranoia territory. If your father is being truly unreasonable you could try to work out some sort of schedule where you're allowed to play for an hour each day, even though this would essentially be treating you like a child. You could also give him some spiel about learning responsibility so you can drop the extra homework class to get a part-time job to help speed up your independence.

I recently turned 18.
Thought it'd be a good idea to go to the bottle shop and get a good load of beer. Turned out my drivers license was cooked and had the wrong date of birth. I didn't realise and so when the guy behind the counter asked for my id I was like "nah yeah mate no worries" and so he was like "mate you're 17 get out of the store". I responded with a simple "sorry, I understand, drivers licence has the wrong date :( " and the cunt told me I was lying, so he kicked me out of the store with no booze in my hand :( .

My psoriasis has flared back up again, rang dermatologist but it's been over a year since i saw them so have to go back via GP which is like a 3 week wait, then can get referred back and wait up to 6 weeks just to get prescribed some MTX.

Being made redundant early April and the last job interviews I've had are by really thick accented Indian guys who ask me stupid questions. yesterday he had his phone on speaker phone but wasn't sat near it so I kept having to ask him to repeat himself as he asked me dumb shit like "what do you know of DHCP and PIPA", "how would you deal with someone coming to you with a blue screen of death"

I'm similar to monkeyjedi where LAN made me really want to improve again, and I haven't really felt this motivation to get better in a while. However, I know that college is only going to get harder and I'm not sure if I can commit to playing any more soon. Also, there are so many people that I'd love to play on a team w/, but I also really like my current team, and idk what to do.

also LAN made me realize more that my only friends are on the internet
